Discuss our Live Family Hog Hunt II
Hogs
Contributors to this thread:
Right on Pat & family. Matt & Cheryl will get to initiate new HAM's (Hogaholics Anonymous Members) to the fold. Hope the rain has stopped there long enough for the boys to put the schwammy on those hogs. Best of luck, Hamicus Procurus
Good luck, shoot straight, & have FUN.
As always sitting on pins and needles......Since its already raining its pretty interesting that I just heard a story about Native Americans and the rain dance.
Do you know why the rain dance always worked? Because the Native Americans didn't stop dancing until they got rain. Success is made up of 10% talent and 90% effort. I know that Matt is so focused on success that what he lacks in experience, he will certainly make up for in effort.
Best of luck.
Go get them Pat Jr. and Matt. Mike
Pat,
I couldn't find the link at first yesterday (in fact, I even started a thread busting your chops about it)......then when I found it, it had all six days posted. I really enjoyed the link!!
Jake
Hope you guys have fun. Kids are always a joy to take. You guys should come visit us while you are in the area. Keith
NO FAIR! Since the first half day was so short I think you should post the second "day" right away!!!
medicinemann - do you have a special back door? I can only get to the first "day."
I'm looking forward to the rest of these. Pat, you always do a great job with them! I know you'll all have fun, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Matt!
I too found the link for the entire hunt but have not read it yet. Their is a serious lack of communication among all the parties here and something like this should not happen. Now to check out the hunt.
Hey Medicineman-Jake you DODO, that was the hunt with Pat's son Patrick that was posted on the Shilo site. This hunt is with Matt. They posted the first hunt and you thought it was this hunt and I did not read it until after I posted. Beg your pardon Pat, keep up the good work!!!!
Love to hear about those bouncing broadheads on the rest. You gotta love all that action especially for a kid (no matter what age). Nice restraint and I'm sure it will/have paid dividends. Hamicus
Man was it hot and humid Saturday. I/m glad the weather let up for Matt on Saturday and Sunday.
Can't wait to hear the final score. :^)
Go get em Matt!
BTW, very nice restraint in waiting for the right shot. You learn well grasshopper. :^)

Congrars Matt!

Great job Matt! Pat you and Julie sure are an inspiration to all of us who love the sport of bowhunting--Thanks for sharing Kent Goodridge
AWESOME! That just awesome! Congrates, on your first bowkill, with many more to come.
Welcome to the world of HAM (Hogaholics Anonymous Members). You entered this world in fine fashion with an excellent hog, and at an excellent place. Way to go! Hamicus Procurus
FANTASTIC!!! That was a GREAT shot Matt. Now you have a HAM family! The second best part is still to come - the eating. Don't give your brother too hard a time if your pig is bigger than his - you know how hunting goes. However, you can give you Dad as much grief as possible if your's beats his! 8-)
Congrats! Way to stay focused and make the shot. You'll never forget your first. AWESOME
Well done Matt, welcome to the Family!
Congrats! An experience none of you will ever forget.
Way to go Matt, Congrats.
Congrats to Matt. Great shooting!

And, in answer to the question, is 9 too young? No, not for the right kids. I shot my first deer at age 9, and am glad I did. Matt and Pat are lucky young men.
Matt,
Congratulations on your hog!!! You made a great shot!!!
Matt, excellent shot!!! Very nice job:^) COngratualions on your first big game animal.
I just watched your video with my 4yr old son Jacob...4 times...and all he wants to do now is shoot a hog with is bow.
Ralph
Matt you were cool, calm, and collected...at least you looked that way! Outstanding shot. The look of determination and concentration on your face showed the "hunter" in you.
Congratulations on a fine hog. Hope many more will come your way.
Rog
Congratulations, Matt! May the Lord Bless you with many more opportunities and memories!!!

Way to go Pat !
When's the cookout?
I was thinking that Pat Jr. might have been nervous trying to equal Matt's shooting ??????
Congrats to both Matt and Pat. Nice shots on some jumpy critters.
I would love to get my son in that action after he gets up to 40 lb's draw. Looks like a great family activity.
Excellent, Pat Jr. Fine shot.
It's even more fun since I hunt Shiloh every year, know where you are, and can visualize it.
Great idea, Pat Sr. Great idea.
Great Shooting Matt & Pat Jr!!!! Watching you two draw on your hogs took me right back to when I drew on my first whitetail some 20 yrs ago now.
Nice job on the video Pat. I'm sure that your boys will treasure the memories and revisit the footage often!
Thanks for including all of us in your hunt :)
"My family got pretty upset with me as I proceeded to pick it up behind the head. "
OK, only Pat would find something dangerous or harmfull on a family bowhunt.
Is it just me or is there a trend here? 8*)
Hog Guide's Link
Way to go Pat and Matt that was some awesome shooting. Way to be patient and wait for the perfect shot! Pat Sr. congratulations on the fine job you and your wife are doing with your two boys. You should be proud. When you get ready I'll put those youngsters on some ducks!
Brian Johnson
Great job Pat Jr.! You can be proud of the way you handled yourself, and took care of business when the time was right!
Two fine young men, and poison with a bow and arrow. I wonder where they get that?
CONGRATS TO ALL THE LEFEMINE'S!!!!
Great shot, great pig well done your father must be very proud of both of you.
Very nice job. I can see myself visiting this with the kids and wife for their firsts also. My oldest just turned 8 and I've been considering the Diamond bow for him this Christmas and I may even buy one for my wife.
Congrats to the boys!! Good Job!!
Should have known if Pat is involved there would have to be a snake involved also!!!!!
LOL
Larv
Good job Pat Jr. Another great shot!
Congrats, again! Pat Jr's reaction after that shot was priceless.
Nice shooting Pat, and congratulations on another great trophy!!!!
Congratulations Patrick! You done real good, again. You and your brother will make quite a team.
Also, tell your Dad that those little copperheads are meaner than the big ones.
CONGRATULATIONS Pat Jr. and Matt. I can't wait till my 6 year old boy is strong enough to hunt with a bow. I might have to take him to Shiloh Ranch too. OK Julie your up next. Mike
Two up, two down. Congrats Pat.
Charlie - SA
2 for 2, you guys are batting 1000.
Chuck Adams can't say that.
Congratulations Pat Jr! Great hunt, great job! Now you can relax a little.....
Good luck to mom & dad too!
>>>>>-------------->
Congratulations Matt, and Pat Jr.
You guys are an inspiration to not only us adults, but to kids your age too. Keep up with the practice, hard work, and dedication and you'll not only be successful in bowhunting beyond your wildest imagination, but in life as well, just ask your mom and dad.
I'm looking forward to watching you guys grow in your archery conquests.
Pat, thanks for letting us be a part of your family.
Thunderthumbs.
Very very cool, another perfect shot. Mom and Dad must be very proud.
Pat sr you should be proud of yourself as well, these boys have a really good start in life.
WOW! Way to go Pat! Two for Two! Excellent shot.
You sure didn't look nervous. You looked rock solid on the shot. Way to go young man!
Rog
Most-excellent all-around adventure for the boys. The copperhead and watching Sage do her thing will be as vivid in the memory banks as the kills.
Shiloh's an outstanding place for such first hunts. We took my son's girlfriend - now ex - down and she hade her first arrow-kill (crossbow) from the same stand, under the same conditions.
Hey Pat, have the boys mentioned if the camera adds extra pressure on their hunts?
My son's first my son's first turkey hunt was videoed for ESPN2 by Mossy Oak and he loved it. Lohman videoed some of my daughter's first turkey hunts for their videos and TV shows...it made her a bit nervous but after the fact she was glad to have everything recorded.
Way to go Pat Jr. You held up well under pressure. Do you have to cook your own pig???
Great shooting! You both took great hogs and had to wait until the hogs presented the perfect angle. It is one thing to get young hunters to become proficient at shooting at the targets (that are always broadside to them) but it is equally important to teach them proper angles and shot placement on moving animals. You both did a remarkable job taking two awesome hogs! Hogs are not an easy animal to take. WAY TO GO! CONGRATS TO YOU BOTH!
Now the pressure is on the adults. Lets see how loud Pat Sr breathes when that big ole boar comes trotting in. NO PRESSURE PAT!! LOL GOOD LUCK!!
PS Watching the videos sure has given me the itch to hog HUNT> After watching the 1st video of Matt, I had to go shoot my bow some.!!
SHOOT STR8 and STAY SAFE!!
JEFF
I bet that copperhead was the same one Cheryl and Cody were checking out at the cook shack at the Porkapalooza. Wouldn't bother me a bit if it was moved to another part of the ranch!!! It's small now but won't stay that way long.
Taking a running broad jump to get in the cook shack would be hard enough, but the fact that the door is kept shut if someones not there could be quite a challenge. 8-)
Of course, at the next Porkapalooza, it should be the first timers job to go into the shack first and hold the door open!
AWSOME congrats to you patrick nice hog!!
Great job, great shot. You should be proud of yourself... You did well. Jay
Jeez, I didn't see Pat jrs hog untill I already posted,, Great job both of you guys,,, You're keeping your family in the bacon, that's for sure.
Jay
man-o-man! textbook kill! way to go Matt! ;-) what a rush, huh? I can still /"re-live" every second of my first archery hog kill, 15 years later! :-)
OK, this is gettin ridiculous! nobody else gets to shoot a hog 'til I do! :-) (seriously, way to go Pat,Jr!)
Good shot Pat Jr.
Sr. what is it with you and snakes?
Congrats Jr! What a proud Dad.
Nice job boys!!
I waited 2 months for my 7 year old's birthday to come so we could read his "new" book - CONNERS FIRST HUNT together. We did the other night and now he wants to use a bow!!
Now that's the way to stick 'em boys congrat's!!!
i posted three weeks ago to stay away from snakes and that pat was a herpetological magnet. matt PMs me back saying he would.
he must have forgotten............
sure enough it runs in the blood 10" copperheads today.......10 foot mamba's tomorrow.
Way to go Matt! Keeping yourself together under pressure is tough, and you did yourself proud in that department. Great shot and congrats to the whole family. All winners!
Wow! Great control under pressure. I know you felt it and you did great. Congratulations to you and your whole family.
Excellent shooting and composure for both boys! That doesn't happen by accident, though. Lots of preparation and education before, as well as watching how their mom and dad behave when the pressure's on. The examples we set are critical in helping our kids know what to do when the pressure's on. Pat and Julie have obviously given these boys great examples to follow, and the boys asre taking this hunt very seriously.
Again, Congratulations to Matt and Pat Jr. on excellent shots and tremendous control and patience! I look forward to reading more about your adventures as the years go by...
Congrats boys! Great job!
What is it with you guys and snakes? At least it wasn't in the blind this time...
Thanks for the story, can't wait for the rest.
You showed a lot of patience and maturity. Many congrats on an excellent accomplishment.
Congrats Pat Jr! 2 for 2 now. Go get em Julie and Pat Sr!
Congrats Pat! Great shot hog slayer!
Great job!! Congrats Pat!!
Great shooting Matt, Congrats nice hog.
Shots don't get any better than that, perfect placement! Excellent!
Kurt
3 down, 1 to go. Congrats to all.
Pat,
I thought the trophy photos were all excellent, I imagine hog photos are probably as hard to get a good trophy shot as bear. What are you using for a still camera?
Congratulations Julie!!!
Hogs are tough critters, and never stand still. To kill three of them with three shots is quite an accomploshment. You should all be very proud!!!!!
The Lefemines have a .750 batting average. Way to go Mrs Lefemine!
Julie - congratulations on a fine red hog!
Ok how far did the hog go? What Bowtech is Julie shooting and what poundage? Thanks for an awesome hunt!
Pat, Julie, Pat Jr. and Matt- I'm having almost as much fun watching the videos as I had when you were here! It's like being in the blind with you and getting to watch Pat Jr. and Matt's reactions. The whole time y'all were out hunting we were wondering how you were doing, and now we get to enjoy not only the excitement of recovering the hogs, but the emotions of shooting them. It was so cool to see Pat Jr. hug Matt when he shot his hog. You could tell how important it was for both of these young men to see their brother make a clean shot. All those hours of practice really payed off. Hogs truly are much tougher to get drawn on than any other North American species I've hunted. If you can kill a hog, you can take any animal on this continent. Pat Jr. and Matt, you guys have done something at 9 years old that most adults have to work long and hard to achieve. That says alot about your dedication to not only practicing shooting your bows, but being cognizant of scent, sound and movement while in the stand.
Pat and Julie, I hope you don't mind us bragging on your boys a little bit either, but Matt and I were truly blown away by their level of maturity not only on the hunt but especially when we went out to eat. I couldn't help but laugh when that one waitress stood there with her jaw hanging when your Matt asked "Miss, could you please tell me what is in your tomato basil soup", and then said "I would like a bowl of that, and as an appetizer please". I noticed she wasn't even writing the order down, and then when she asked you if he could really have that...(because he spoke so "punctual"), I had to choke back a giggle. Around here, folks aren't accustomed to kids who behave like adults and I was amused by their reaction to such mature young men.
Oh, and I love Pat Jr.'s comment after we walked up to Julie's hog. He told Sage that instead of a livesaver ,she is a "life finisher". I think she just got a new nickname "L.F.". I can't wait to see the rest of the hunt! Matt and I are obsessed with checking the Bowsite several times each day in case you decide to post the next hunt early. And one last thing....what did you two Scorpion Kings do to the ground around the kitchen to attract more scorpions? I caught 16 at one time when I checked under the welcome matt yesterday, and that's not including the ones that got away! You don't have to answer that because I think I already know that y'all brought some kind of secret scorpion attractant. :)
-Cheryl
Three up, three down. C'mon, Pat, don't disappoint!! heheee....
iowaPete
Matt, You did it man! Your hard work and fun paid off bigtime. Congrats buddy. MRmich
Did pat get ett by a big boar hog?
Congratulations to the entire family. Pat and Julie must know how blessed they are to make this past hunt a family event. Not too many parents are lucky enough to have all of their children completely involved in this sport. You two are very lucky people and I'm sure you cherish every minute that you can share with the boys.
You're a wonderful family. Keep up the tradition.
Pat,
COngratulations to the whole family! WOW- 4 for 4! And must have been so special to do it as a family!
Thanks for posting this hunt so we could all experience it.
My boy just turned 9 and has been shooting a fiberglass bare bow for a few years. Just got him his first "real" compound and release. He seems to be taking to it real well. SHooting good groups. I was thinking the last few weeks how to get him into hunting with the bow. I think I have found the answer after seeing this hunt! It really does look like the perfect way to introduce youngsters to bowhunting! Just may have to make a trip out to OK in a year or 2! :)
Thanks again- what a neat hunt!
Perry
CONGTRATULATIONS!!!!!!! Makes me look even more forward to hunting with my Son.
CONGRATS MATT,PAT JR, JULIE ,& PAT SR SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT FAMILY OUTTING.
KENT
Looks like a great time.
Congrats, all.
Pat, congrats to all! First hunt with a "Guardian" (I think) what do you think of the new bow? Gregg
Great Job Matt! Very nice Hog.
Congratulations to everyone and thanks for sharing the experiences. For me personally and I know for everyone who has ever hunted w/ Matt & Cheryl @ Shiloh Ranch, it brought back a lot of great memories, tx again.
Copperheads-Scorpions-Tarantulas: Yea, Life is Good !!
What a great adventure for the entire Lefemine family. Congrats on your 4 for 4 and welcome to the club Matthew!
That was a great trip and I really enjoyed the whole thing. I would never try and take a video like Pat did on his shot. I could have centered the lens of the camera with a broadhead. I could probably hit the lens even if I hit the hog first, just my luck. I live by Murphy's Law and it is my opinion that Murphy was an optimist.
No surprise. Shiloh Ranch is one fine place to go, and Matt and Cheryl are two of the finest folks you'll ever meet.
I go back for #5 next March. Can't wait.
Way to go Matt!! You looked like an old pro already!!
Just saw the hunt today and Matt and Pat Jr. you both did a great job. I sure hope you appreciate the wonderful parents you come from.
Here's hoping for many more fun adventures for the two of you.
Kathi
If I bring the eggs and make the biscuits will you supply the ham.
Matt and Pat JR Tyler and I want to congratulate you on your successful hunt. Hope to see you soon.
That was awesome! Congrats on a great hunt!
