Bou' here's my lion from 2yrs ago. She was the mother of a family of stock killers. The rancher was all smiles when we got her.
My son caught this one last week. I don't have all the details yet, but it's BIG!
Bou here is my cat Before I shot her. She wasnt huge by all means but I was looking for a good cat to mount, and she was about as purdy as they come.
We filmed the Hunt. I pulled this pic off the Video so it is not a great pic for clarity but I thiought it was a cool pic.
Good Luck,CB
Good luck to you lion hunters.....................RV
Can any of you guys who have hunted cats give us a ballpark cost for a guided hunt? Thanks.
Here is my kitty from two years ago. Very short chase.
Here is a big Tom that Dean hendrickson caught awhile ago.
Brandon, is that your wife's lion? Very nice.
This is a 2003 CO lion.
I am hoping to get a call here anyday to go out.

I don't know if this works, but here goes.
This one was caught and fitted with a radio coller a couple of weeks ago.

Congrats Dale!
Killed this cat on Tuesday!
I hunted with Dick and Mike Ray of Lobo Outfitters out of Pagosa Springs, Colorado. We hunted five days with marginal conditions and very few tracks. We got lucky and found the track of this lion fairly early in the day. We let the dogs go, and thats when the work began. We were climbing in an area that bighorn sheep hang out. It was very interesting following the tracks and seeing where this lion had been living. It took a while to get to the tree, and when we did there was only one dog at the tree. The others had followed some more tracks down the mountain. Mike called for the dogs, and they returned to give us a hand. After a couple well placed shots I had my lion, what a hunt. I'm glad I spent the time looking for the right outfitter. I can't believe how hard these guys will work to make sure you have a good hunt. The lion was 7'7" and 156 pounds bled out and his stomach was empty. Skull green scored at 14 9/16.
here is a tom i caught that had killed 12 calves in 2 weeks with the help of a female.

1995 Idaho Tom -- 14 5/16 P&Y
Got elk (Tom) congrats to you and others...I just left Pagosa ahead of the current storm system after a lion hunt in Utah (Blanding) and staying at my place a few days (Mountain Landing Guest Quarters on Piedra Road)...Got my cat Dec.12 in some of the steepest country I've ever hunted..2500 verical feet in eleven hours..the first day! I'll post a picture as soon as I get them downloaded...
Kevin,
If you need someone to shoot one of those lions for you, give me a call!!
Marvin
That's a nice cat Pat, but a touch smaller than your last one! LOL!
Great animals guys, keep em coming. This is on my "have to do someday list".
...well, never had this problem in the past...tried to post the lion pics but got a msg. that the host site was malfunctioning so will try again tonight....
...ok, finally got that done....hunted near Blanding Utah with Sunrise Outfitters. 2500 vertical feet in 11 straight hours of tracking in 3-4 inches of snow and 15-27 degree weather...and that was the first day! Followed a large Tom at that time into a deep canyon of cliffs and drop-offs..never saw the cat and ended up loosing one dog as we came out in the dark, coming back up the cliffs....not something I would recommend for the faint of heart! Went back to the area the next day to try and locate the dog and cut another track going into a shallower canyon(only 1000 ft!). When we discovered (by electronic tracking) that the missing dog was moving out the canyon another direction, we decided to try for the second cat as warming conditions were promising to make conditions worse in the next several days for tracking. We treed the cat in about three hours and I was able to thread an arrow up into the cat's chest. It tumbled out, may a desparate dash of 60 yds and was dead. This was a 3 year adventure as the first trip was fruitless, altho the discovery of numerous ancient Anasazi ruins insured that I would return for that, if nothing else!
last march sw Utah. Sunrise outfitters dry ground Leroy Nelson
interesting pic of bobcat northern wisconsin caught on trail cam.
...huntdoug...that was Lloyd Nielsen of Sunrise Outfitters and that'sa fine cat you got...I did a dry land hunt the first time with him but rain messed us up...guess you got to see some of the Anasazi ruins??
Here's mine from last December

Wow, that's a big kitty...is that a grin or a grimace or both?
Got Elk,
Did Dick tell you about the time the bear attacked him at his wildlife park? I think it's name was Bobbie. About ripped his pecker off!! OUCH! I was there hunting with Judd Cooney and the day after this happened we saw Dick walking out of the post office after getting his mail!! One tough little sucker for sure.
Marc, he did tell me about what happend. I've seen the video a few times on tv. He's lucky that bear didn't kill him.
That grin was stuck on mi face for over a week.
Here's a shot of my Lion.........exactly-I need one!
bluedog, here's your nice lion, lightened up a bit so others can see its great face markings. Very nice lion. Congrats.

My Hunting partner just sent me a couple of pictures he took of a lion they treed. His son Dallas has a permit this year. I thought this was just an excellent photo. I'm sure most of you will all agree.
Have a great bowhunt. BB
And here's one showing the whole lion. I believe it was a female so they let her walk.
Have a great bowhunt. BB
nice picture, im thinking of going on a hunt for one of these animals gotta be exciting as everything.dogs going nuts cats hissing.i think when i do decide to hunt a cat there is gonna be alot of practice sessios out in the backyard w/ a boombow as loud as it can play w/ hounds barking to get used to shooting w/ all that noise.
you won't hear anything when you draw back. focus is totally on the cat.
Yeah everything goes quiet and kinda into a blur.
that has to be one heck of rush when cat is growling non-stop
My big Tom sat there up in the tree about 10' off the ground, and the shot was about 11 yards. He just sat there all calm and quiet and we never heard a peep out of him.
they they tend not to growl and make a lot of noise.
azdogman great pics!!!! thanks
Great photo's every one .............RV
todays lion notice his empty quiver, what a mess. VET BILLS gotta love em
my two daghters got in on the action too. Caught it close to a road.
Nice pics AZ. Great dogs and great-looking family...you're a very blessed man.
Hey, please respond to my past e-mails when you get a chance. Thanks.
BB - Those are some awesome pictures!
AZ - what was the story here. Did you lose some dogs in this event?
What was with the bobcat and the deer way way back on the forum? That looked crazy.
I think the guy caught the shot on a trail cam. He said on another post that he had found a little fur and hair afterwords but nothing more, Guess she got away. A buddy of mine sent me this shot, don't think this one got away
no had a couple get tore up. One of my buddies dogs got bit in the face, crushed its jaw, had to put it to sleep yesterday. That is not to comon all the lions i catch i have only a few vet trips a year.
140 pounder gotten a month ago in north Vancouver Island. Brought my longbow but had to use the guide's gun because the tom climbed to the very top of a tall pine tree. The shot was around 20 yards with branches and brush . . . way beyond my longbow comfort zone especially when shooting nearly straight up!
The area has had problems with cougar attacks. A few miles away, two boys were attacked by a cougar this past summer while camping. Biologists allow two cougars to be taken and encourage hunters to take females and females with kittens!
Biggest problem was hauling my tropical rear end up those mountains (first snow hunt!). Was hoping that the cold weather would make my body work more effciently when climbing. It didn't. Kept on sliding and slipping on the slush and snow. Seemed to work better either sliding on my butt or crawling on all fours!
Wayne,
Congratulations! Whatever it takes,eh?
Watts
Taken this last December in Colorado before the snow got to deep. I never will forget this hunt!!!!!
Watts, oh you said it right!
My hats off to you cold weather, mountain snow hunters! Tough, tough, tough!
Funny thing was that I playing like a kid in the snow the first few days. When the truck got stuck, I really had a good time shoveling it free (guides were laughing it up happy to have somebody do the digging). By the end of the trip, my snow enthusiasm had dropped somewhat!
Congratulations, Scott. What a toad!
Wayne,
Snow is one of those things you either love or hate.
I love the stuff. Can't get enough of it or the cold. If I had my way I'd be in the stuff 9 months out of the year. The other 3 could be fall! My wife, on the other hand hates the stuff. She refers to it as the "White Death."
Glad to see you got your cat on the first hunt. I've been out on three different hunts in as many years and never even got on a lion. I'll book another hunt next year, and will hopefully get a chance. Congratulations again.
Watts
My hunting partner's son has a cougar permit this year and they ran a few lions on Saturday, but none they treed (If I remember 3 different lions) meant his fancy.
His son had to work on Sunday, but Shane went out and they ran two more on Sunday as his wife's sister needed to fill her tag too.
Here are a few pictures he emailed me today.
Have a great bowhunt. BB
And here's one final, young one.
And it looks as if the Lady and dogs closed the deal.
And one final one.
Have a great bowhunt. BB
Those are some great photos that you guys are posting. Congrats to everyone. Here is a lion that I killed a few years ago. Theres nothing better than watching those dogs work and listening to the music they make. Good luck everyone!
Besides the trophy, did anyone consume the meat? I've read it tastes somewhat like pork. I'd love to go after a cat with the bow. Thanks for the pics.
Brian, I had the rear quarters of mine made into smoked hams and I'm saving them for a special occasion. The backstraps we have eaten look and taste much like pork loin.
When it was fresh, it was some of the best Game meat I have eaten.
I put some Whitetail Tenderloin and Lion steaks on for my kids. Without telling them what each was, they ate all of the Lion, and did not like the Whitetail.
It is a lot like a Pork Loin or white Chicken meat. Barbeque with some zesty barbeque sauce, and it is hard to beat.
I guess the photo I posted last night of an African Lion was censored. Was informed it would be posted in an hour and that was last night??? Grizzly
one of the lions i caught in march
azgogman do you guide or is this just a hobby for friends? you seem to do well.
i do both. i have been guiding alot lately after i got a booth in a local sports show. Booked alot of hunts there. I price my hunts very affordable so i keep pretty busy. check out my website out my wife just got it up and running. www.fulldrawguideservice.com
good prices. are all food and accomodations extra. how available are licenses? how are you on dry ground and what months to you hunt? very interesting.
Are there areas that generally produce larger cats (body size)?
Does skull size necessarily correlate with the cat's length?
More outfitter recomendations please.
Bill in MI
bou'bound that includes all your food and a place to sleep. Licenses and tags are over the counter and you can hunt year around. The best time is november through march. Since the end of november i have caught 11 lions 6 in the snow 5 in the dirt.
Nice deal. I don't know what to compare the 11 catches to in terms of how many hunters (or trips) you ran over that 4-5 month period. 11 for 30 would be far different than 11 for 15.
I would think you would do well with those hunts. I would be interested in thinking about it personally.
bou out of those 11 7were for clients. I had 8 clients so far and 7 have killed,4 toms 3 females. I have 2 hunters left this year so we will see in a couple weeks how the year went. Out of those 8 clients 3 were out of staters, 2 for 3 on them.

Here are a couple of pictures of the kitty I got with my selfbow in late december.
Just some awesome pics and stories guys, Thanks for sharing.
Here is a 148 lb tom I treed for a buddy in February.
Dan, I hope you don't mind, I lightened ypur photo up a bit. Nice Lion.

here is the lion after being shot
Killed this cat in 2001. Weighed 178 pounds.
Here is a test, I don't know what I'm doing but the originals were not digital so I took a photo of the originals with a digital. I tried to scan them individually but I can't seem to resize them large enough to view.
Nice Brian. Are they all from your hunts?
Randy,
They are all lions we have chased but the only one I shot was the one in the upper right.
I have a bunch more on video with some pretty cool footage but it is all on 8mm and I can't seem to be able to find the tapes, I suspect they may have been accidentally thrown out.
I always enjoy good pre-shot photos of lions, Brian. Another reason to hunt them, they are very photogenic when angry!
Selfishly, I say too bad about the videos. I would have liked to view them at a future MHH:)
This is another test, I'm trying to figure out how to scan photos with my flatbed scanner so they are large enough to be viewed. I may have it figured out.
I'm on a roll now, I'm finally smarter than the equipment I'm using.

Wow, what an incredible experience for my 1st cat. The 2 1/2 hr. chase ended with a gorgeous 6'6" 119 lbs female!
My Arizona lion from last January. I hope to have it back from the Taxidermist in a couple months.
Here is a cat I shot in Nevada a few weeks ago.
We caught the above cat in a cave. I attached a picture of the rancher/guides trying to get the dogs out of the cave. There are 5 dogs and one lion in the cave and you couldn't see them in this tight space. Although I was bowhunting, the rancher gave me his .357 to 'cover' them while they went in after the dogs. As they were pulling out the last dog the cat came charging out and I shot him with the handgun at about 12 feet. A great and exciting hunt although I was somewhat dissappointed not to kill the cat with the bow.
I should point out that the cat was not coming at anyone, just trying to get the hell away from us.
My Brother just got this one in Utah, no poundage or measurement's yet! It looks P&Y to me!

I did not shoot these.....the people I was with did. I was just the water-boy. ***grin***

Daaaaamn, those are some big kittys. Makes me want to start saving for a hunt. What's the going price for a good outfitter/guide?
Shawn That mount came out real nice!!!!!!!!!!!!
Skick
Thank You, I am really happy with it. Only problem now is I got the itch for another one or maybe even a Leopard to go along with it :)
Shawn
Here is a pic of both my lions mounted. I think my taxidermist was listening to Barry White when he was doing the work! Ya its a male and female.
After my 4th try for a cat, I connected. I am extremely pleased with the result. This is proof to me that you don't need to use a western taxidermists to have a cat done well. Just get the right taxidermist.

Anyone got a guess when the mating season is for lions in southern Arizona? Thanks, as I am thinking about doing some calling.
Nice picture! Cant wait to get out there in March! I cant tell, but is that Hank in the picture?
LeRoy...I am hunting with Lloyd in a couple weeks (hopefully, if the weather looks good)...I would love to see that same sight with a big ol Tom. Thanks for the teaser!
I got this nice female with Llyod Nielson on 12/20/08.Good Luck kota-man, you will have a good hunt with Lloyd.
Hey Doug, The main dog in the photo is one of Lloyd's the other dog in the corner of the photo is John. Hank wasn't hunting that day but should be there when you come.
...please tell Lloyd to check the thread "rafter cat"..he helped get that one after a tough but sucessful hunt! Also, if time allows, get him to show you the Anasazi ruins and pictograph wall! Good luck..Lloyd and LeRoy know their cats!

NICE PHOTOS. WHAT DO YOU EAT BESIDES THE BACKSTRAP?
Eat the whole thing. Not only were the backstraps great, but there are some good roasts and plenty of breakfast sausage in those cougars!

Here is a Lion I just took in Colorado on Dec 9th. Aaron Laske my guide from Alamosa says it may be one of Colorado's largest this year measured 15 0/16 Pope and Young.
Killed him from less than 12 yards with my Bowtech General
Here is a pic of the same Lion after we got him cleaned up a bit. He had been a problem Lion for the Colorado Division of Wildlife and had been tranked and relocated some 200 miles away. He had an ear tag !!

Ole Coyote.... sorry but you are clueless...
Arizona - Halloween 2012, Dry Ground (no snow) Hunt.
BEFORE
Ole Coyote,
I can't speak for guided hunts/hunters, but you are more than welcome to come out here to Idaho and follow my dogs around for a day and find out if you can earn yourself a lion. I have no idea where you are from or what kind of shape you are in but I'd be willing to bet even an easy lion would be a little tougher than the walk to your deer stand.
Ole Coyote, why are you on a hunting/archery forum and condemning lion hunting? Just thought I'd ask, you might think of joining a Sierra Club or PETA forum.
Never hunted Lions but I look forward to this thread every year. Good luck guys and be careful out there!
Pastringking add your photo
Shot this Tom today in Utah. 159 lbs and a big melon head. Shot at less then 10 yards in a tree that was less then 10' off the ground. Quartering away shot and the arrow blew through him and flew off the mountain!! Great hunt and awesome experience
Congrats on a great looking cat Chris!
