What happened to Mike Lapinski?
Elk

Was just wondering what happened to Mike Lapinski? His stories and perspective used to be fun to read...
I haven't seen anything in a while. Not since I saw him a couple of years back, right before his book on Tim Treadwell came out.
He's a very nice guy and has a wealth of bowhunting knowledge.
I was just watching Radical Elk Hunting and Point Blank videos of Mike. What a blast....truly one of the front runners in calling elk. He never minimized the effort it took to hunt elk. I have all his elk hunting books and they're a wealth of hard won bowhunting knowledge. I recently bought Patrick Meitin's book Modern Elk and this is a super read on modern elk.
I am a huge fan of Mike Lapinski and most of what I learned about elk behavior and calling I owe to Mike. I agree, he was one of the first to be ahead of the curve when it came to elk. He really put the time in and is a smart man. I met with him a few times at sportsman shows and he was always a pleasure to talk with. It would be great to have him post here.
Thought I heard he was having some serious health issues?

Mike was my camera man on many adventures. I have no idea what he is doing now. There isn't that much to do in Victor, MT. He may be back trapping and logging.
i heard his sister married lee and the have a TV show
I ran into Mike a couple years ago at a gas station near Missoula. I talked with him for a while. I knew one of his neighbors from Superior, (now deceased) and we shared a couple stories about the guy.
Mike and his son were heading out to hunt whitetails near Lincoln...if Mike is having health issues, they werent very obvious to me. Looked to me like he is still in good shape.
His book/video on trapping are really good, as are the old elk videos.
I would like to know what happened to Mike Lapinski? I Would like to personaly thank him and I owe him a lot! Thanks to Mike and Paul Brunner my son is what he is today and in the future. Back in 1998 my son 3yrs. old at the time, ask to squeel through my grunt tube and he got an answer, that hooked him. He got 2 VCR tapes from my great nephew, Archery Elk The Dream Hunt, and Radical Elk Strategies and he watched and practiced for hours and years with just a grunt tube no diaphrams and in Feb. in Reno Nv. at the RMEF Elk Camp World Elk Calling Campionships he won hte World Championship Voice Division and he will be in Fort Worth Tx. March ^th and &th to try and defend his title. Every year hopes to see Mike and Paul to thank them. His child hood dream is to call for one or both of them on a Dream Hunt For Michael Hatten THANKS for a dad and sons dream of a champion come true. James from Elko Nv.
i too would like for mike to resurface. his knowledge of elk is superb, and his vcr tapes are among the best. hope all is well in his life.
Mike was/is writing for Dwight at Bowhunter Mag. Mike is a good christan man. He was judging a animal calling contest one time and my young son was winning all the contests and Mike told him he had to let someone else win. :-) By the way, Mike can't sing worth a darn but he doesn't care he just loves the lord.
As far as I know, Mike is doing just fine and still living in Victor. He and I shared some great times doing videos for Stoney Wolf Productions. That's where I taught him to call and hunt elk.
Not only is he a fine writer, he is a pretty good logger and at one time, while at Penn State, could sometimes catch a pass.
I heard he is busy testing Bear Mace......
lol
LOL- Mike is tad religious. He was running the camera for me one time and I missed. I said some words that offended him. It was 20 minutes before he quit lecturing me and we could get out of the tree.
But I do believe he holds the record for the longest recurve bow toss. When he missed an elk at 8-yards, he broke the current record. :) Remember that, Mike?
h He also spent the night up on Rabbit Ears, under a pine tree, wrapped in a survival balnket while a bear the elk he had killed that that afternoon.

I can tell you. He is alive and well in Superior, MT. I should know, he is my father-in-law! He has a new fiction book coming out soon. He also has a facebook page, as well as an upcoming blog.
He's looking a lot like Harry Reed in his old age. Are you sure he's not in are nations capital.
Damn, Dan, that was a cut ! LOL
That's the first thing I thought too, Bigdan!
Glad to hear Mike is doing well.
Mike was 1 of my early elk hunting mentors.
Good luck, robb
I always enjoyed Mike's writing and his hunting videos. The Stoney Wolfe videos were some of the best. I don't buy the new material coming out as there is not much of a story. It is just about shooting lots of elk. I enjoyed Bowriter's video on elk hunting too. I believe it was a Stoney Wolfe production also. Bowriter; wasn't it you that used to give Mike some good natured ribbing in some of your writing, years ago. I remember a comment about Mike not being able to write well as he is a graduate of Penn State. It was a long time ago so maybe I have forgotten just how that comment fit, but I still thought it funny.
He was my cameraman for several years but I have not heard from in quite a while.
I know Mike. He is doing fine. I see him several times a week. Rest assured he is ok.
People had been sweating that for 9 years!
I kinda miss bowriter posting here, he could stir up a conversation...8^)
Me too bone. He could surely piss in peoples wheaties! I enjoyed it.
I miss Bigdan. As for you folks who miss those who really pissed people off... that might say as much about you as it does them.
I also miss Bigdan too, but sounds like somebody else wants to stir the pot, talk about hypercritical....
Naw, he just proved how thin skinned many of you are and, you just proved his point.
I still read his Radical Elk Strategies book most every year in Elk Camp.
Good luck, Robb
I too miss BigDan very much he turned me on to Bowsite and we spoke almost every week and when I read about Shugs injury it brought back the Dan and I drew Az together and in August my left knee went sideways and that hunt never happened Bowriter was a Tennessee guy and I met several times and we disagreed on several issues but hell that’s life RIP guys Lewis
I have one of his books. I enjoyed them. Be cool to see those old school guys on a Outdoor show. Lipinski. Brunner. Keller, Fratzke. and on and on
"Naw, he just proved how thin skinned many of you are and, you just proved his point."
Is that why a post of mine was deleted and I got locked out of a thread one time because I fired back? Always wondered about that...
Who knows Nate. Depends on the mood of the moderator, that day!
