Short answer, no. As far as I am aware, the last legal tiger hunt by a westerner was in the kingdom of Bhutan, granted on special arrangement by the monarchy, believe it was back in the late 80's. The only legally killed animals today are a few problem animals.

from what i've been able to find, they're endangered to the point of near extinction (certain subspecies) habitat loss is predominantly to blame. man, it would be great if somehow they could make a comeback and be able to be hunted. think of the economic benefit to countries if they were able to be guided hunting of tigers, not to mention a nice motivation to manage the populations carefully.

My brother inlaw's grandpa used to hunt them for the India government. He actually has a rug from one with all the papers. I believe it was back in the 60's and 70's.

Shuteye, that explains why tigers lick themselves. trying to get that awful taste out of their mouth.

I have met one bowhunter who killed a tiger with his recurve! He was special ops in the Vietnam war and actually had a program teaching the Hmongs archery to kill the VC. They were in the highlands and had a brazen tiger around the camp. He was able to kill it with his bow (a couple of other Soldiers with M16s were there for back up) I've seen the pictures, but didn't think how impossible it is now to get one. This was at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio about 4 yrs ago.

I love that clip! Really gives you an idea how amazing tigers really are. I believe that one was actually wounded too. 10' high jump that travels about 20' lineal feet... Pretty amazing.

O'connor did kill a couple in India before it closed - believe India closed in '72? Kleinburger is I believe the last to legally harvest one - that's the Bhutan one mentioned above.

So in the research that brought me to this thread I came upon a possible loop hole. Even though tiger hunting is banned worldwide, ownership of a live tiger is not. Once its yours what you do with it is up to you within reason. Enter canned hunting. From most accounts there is no sportsmanship involved at all. The animal being tied up, bated, lured in with there offspring etc... but I assume that was the call of the owner/hunter. If you have the funds I imagine you could set the hunt up any way you wish. In my opinion there is no point in hunting dangerous game if it cant hurt you. I would think a healthy, free to roam and hopefully aggressive animal would make as interesting and fair a hunt as can be. If any of you have the, what i would guess is a small fortune required to set this up, I would be very interested in knowing the details/ seeing some footage.

My dad has a story from when he was in Vietnam - he was a scout helicopter pilot and killed two with his mini-gun one day. Said one of the other pilots started hollering over the radio that there were a couple lions on the sandbar below him and when he rolled in there were two tigers. Said unfortunately when he shot them they had run into some dry grass and the tracers started a fire and burned their hides up. Said they were all bummed as the hides were bringing more than they got in a month for pay. Pretty crazy story to hear him tell it.
