Mt Goat in the Misty
Mountain Goat
Contributors to this thread:
Anthony is the second Mt Goat hunter this season ... William took a nice Goat on the last hunt ...
the look back down at camp ....
in the middle of some of the best Mt Goat country there is !!!!!
the next day after flying in (first hunt day), early in the am, a nice Goat is spotted and the work begins ....
tough and steep stuff ....
the big Billy had bedded down under this ice shelf ...
Anthony's stalk was silent (and he didn't even take off his Corks) and his shot was good ...
the Billy made his way up onto a steep shelf ... after a little while he bled out and took the tumble ...
a dandy for sure ... they estimated the Billy to be around 300 Lbs on the hoof ... the horns didn't get damaged in the fall ... both tips were broomed off ... the 10 inch length with 6 inch bases should put it in the B&C & P&Y books ...
my Guide partner Bob Warren (one of the best Goat Guides in AK) and Anthony ... one happy hunter ...
Now it's over to Prince of Wales Island to chase Sitka Blacktail, Black Bear and get in some killer stream fishing for Coho Salmon ...
Those are great pics! Congrats.
Great job...Very nice Johnny!
the Misty Fjords is great ... when you can see it ...
Digi-scoped 3 Wolverine crossing a snow field ...
Another big Billy on a perch ....
awesome country .... look at the Goat bedding area in the lower left ...
congrates to Anthony for making a great shot and congrates to you Johnnie and also Bob for doing a great job of getting him into a position to make the shot. That is a beautiful place I hope to get to someday.
That brings back memories Johnnie. Differennt location to where i successfully took my goat with you and Bobby way back when. Well done, again. Good location, great guides, great results, and the weather can really suck in their!!
Highlander (look familiar).. we have been hunting these hills now for 15 years .. lots of memories .. we will hunt your lake during early October this season .. weather permitting ... LOL
Thanks all for the kind words ...
Great Billie!
congrats
Good luck, Robb
Great Job!! I'm getting the itch to hunt another one!
Muskeg,
Good job, great goat and fantastic photos.
Thanks Johnnie and nice job!
BTW, I went into a new spot this year in Windham Bay and realized I couldn't get a goat out by myself since it took waaay longer to get in than I anticipated with too much brush and I was solo so I had to come out without trying to arrow one--crap!
I saw maybe the biggest billy I have seen, at least in Alaska and a monstrous nanny with about 12-13" spread and 11"-12" or so horns. Saw 30 nannys and kids in one group, the most I have ever observed together.
Awsome pictures, nice place and great goat Thyanks for sharing it
Thanks for sharing Muskeg. Cool pictures and story. Congrats to Anthony. Really nice Billy.
Dave
Such an awsome thread. LOVE the pics and commenantary. Someday...someday.....
Yes Pat ... the last time I got a glimpse of Bigfoot down in that valley ... sure did look like he was carrying a recurve ... and now he is making calls Bobby's cell phone ... LOL
Tough terrain, waterfalls and ice. Congratulations Anthony, John and Bob.
I just got an email from Anthony and he just had the Official Score done after the dyring period ...
It scores 52 even ...
Great job Anthony ...
Our early Oct hunter also took a nice one that should go around 51 ...
I have a late August '10 opening ... that is usually a good bowhunting time slot ....
Awesome looking country. Thanks for taking us along.
That is so awesome! What a hunt. I would love just to be able to go visit, getting to hunt there would be a bonus! Where exactly are the Misty Fjords?
Great goat by the way!
Great goat. Congrats to him!
Congratulations to Anthony ...
His Goat just took the first award at the P&Y Banquet and tied for 5th alltime....
Helluva goat. Congrats. Ed F
