I father in law is Ret. Air Force and still works on base/live in the area. He hunts both on base and on a Reservation in the area. I don't know much about where to go or anything but I know he does fairly well. Deer are pretty small but they are tropical deer...I guess that's to be expected.

Yea, Fl is not known for producing really big deer. It is possible to come across one here and there. I'm mainly interested in a meat hunt for next year's jerky supply. If I see big horns than great but that's not what I am expecting. This will be my girlfriends first bow hunt and I hoping she'll enjoy it.

I turkey hunted there five years in a row and I found an awesome deer spot. There was a little secluded pond with acorn trees all around it and deer tracks everywhere. There was even scrapes (old ones but still visible) in March when I was there. I went to this spot every year and saw the same deer sign every time.
If you have a map you can PM me or you can give me a call and I can tell you where it's at. I saw deer every time we were there turkey hunting and I always said I would go back deer hunting just haven't done it yet.
I love that place for turkey hunting. Hunt in the morning and then relax on beach or the bars in the afternoon.
Some years we stayed at the camp ground but most of the time we got a hotel room in Niceville and once on the beach when we brought the wifes.

Archerdan, I am interested in this spot if you would be willing to message me. I bow hunt near Eglin and would love to harvest a doe with my bow.

We were there on a business/fall break vacation in Oct.
Saw a very nice black bear boar resting in a live oak tree about 400 yds from the Base Exchange, saw several turkeys as well.
Made me 2nd guess my assignment choices during my career.
