What is the most common draw length

Just curious to see what is the most common draw length for bow shooters. I shoot a 29" draw. Thanks
Id say 27-28.5 it probably the most common.
1" longer than needed lol.. I would say 28" would be the average true draw length.

I shoot 26". I am not short or have short arms. The bow fits great and the draw feels perfect. Is something wrong with me? An extra 2 inches is alot.
MOst common, or most commonly sold...Sold HAS to be 29. Actual draw length probably 28.
I think Kota-man nailed it. There is a difference between what DL guys actually shoot and what their DL actually is. You figure that the average height of a man is 5'9"-5'10", that translates to a 27.5"-28.0" DL.

No wonder I can't find bows that fit me!!! I got a 31 inch dl, bow is 30 but works for me good. Just have a bit longer d loop.
So what you're saying is you think the guys will go with a longer draw than needed to gain the extra speed. I too agree with the 29" as being most sold.
I feel your pain BuckSlayer. I have a 31.5 inch draw length. So the options on bows are few and far between. I currently shoot an Elite XLR, but are considering a Bowtech Insanity.

My draw lenght is 28.5" and I shoot a 27.5" bow with 1" loop. Fits like a glove.
Touchy subject for me. Most peoples arms extended and measured finger tip to finger tip is equal to their height. I am 6'-2" tall but my arms are 6'-6" extended and my draw lenth is 32". I shop for a new bow every few years and some kid behind the counter trys to tell me what my draw lenth is. I usually remind them that I was shooting a bow before they wore long pants. Thats probably why my bow is now 16 years old. Very hard to find an affordable bow for us long armed guys.

28" according to our local shop.
I'm 5'9 and have a 28" draw, could go 27.5 accordong to Mathews chart and it works for me.
5' 10"....27" draw...works great including late MN deer season with layers....

Aggieland way up near the top of the thread beat me to the answer I was going to type, and I still would say it's the most accurate response.
Most of us do shoot at least a half inch longer than what would be best for accuracy.
Good form has us bringing the string back to anchor with our face still facing the target and our neck in a natural upright position. Take a look at others on the range or film yourself and make an honest appraisal of your form. If your head is tilted and you're peeking past the bridge of your nose to see through the peep while your neck is angled away from the target, and you're still straining everything to reach the back wall of your draw, you're probably closer to two full inches beyond the best draw length for your particular frame.
I suspect normal male ego has the biggest influence on our exaggerated tendency to try to draw longer then we should, and the desire for maxxing arrow speed feeds into that tendency also.
Whatever the reasons, you'll see probably twenty guys shooting with form problems caused by trying to shoot a longer draw than they should be using for every one that could shoot another half inch without hurting anything. And that's about where we should be in order to allow a little leeway for wearing heavy outer layers while hunting in cold weather.
At 5' 9" and about average arm length for my height, I did the same thing for many years. Shot 29" draw for years before finally heeding the advice I'd heard and read so many times and shotening it to 28". When that worked so well after getting used to it, I tried taking it a little further and found that 27 1/2" was really best for me, and that going to 27" even gave me the little extra room for a fairly heavy coat sleeve to clear better.
Much more relaxed position at full draw, settling much easier into good target form and the ability to hold that draw position while waiting for some bashful critter to finally step out from behing the tree, etc. No sleeve contact worries when I keep the bow arm sleeve somewhat constrained (I like the top of an old boot sock, exremely silent and comfortable as an arm guard).
Yes, it sacrifices a few fps, but the more accurate shot placement more than makes up for the speed loss in actual hunting. And the better shooting form more than makes up for the slight speed loss on the 3D range, as well.
Most of us shoot too long....unless of course we recognized that and shortened up years ago. I am 6'4" have long arms like a goon and have gradually decreased my DL from 32 back in the 1980's to 30 1/2 right now. I could easily shoot a 30" and likely will order that on my next bow....lots more choices once you get down to a 30" DL.

I started at 30", went to 29.5" and currently shoot 29"...seems to fit me well. I'm 6' and have a little bit longer reach than average. I have shot 28" bows, but they feel just a little bit too short...Maybe a 28.5" would be best...I release off the string and have my release as short as it will go...
Bloodtrail, you might want to check out the newest models from Scott. I saw something about a single caliper release the other day that is supposed to have a lot more adjustment than their older models.

Of all the new bows I've sold, I think the average is 27.5"
Of all the bows I've worked on that were bought somewhere else, the average is 29"
Considering the AMO standard was devised at 28" I'm guessing they had a reason.
I too am 5'9, started at 29" and now shoot 28".
I am 5'11 3/4" tall and weigh 205#s. I don't have gorilla arms (35" sleeve). My draw length is 29". I shoot with a release off of a loop and anchor off my jaw with the string touching the tip of my nose.
Your height has nothing to do with draw length. Check your wing span and divide by 2.5. I see far more 29" on the store shelves. I'm 5'10" and there is no way I could shoot a 27. I tried a 28 when I bought my 29". When I drew the 28 it felt like I was trying to shot a sling shot. When I was at full draw I had to really lean my head forward and down to to touch my face. My wing span is 72" which works out to be 28.8. Not exactly. I do make a few extra twist to get the draw length just right.

Pointless by itself. You need to ask a thousand archers, then run a distribution graph. Probably end up with a classic 'bell curve'. I'd guess the mean would be around 28, most between 27 and 29, with outliers at 24 and 32 or a bit beyond.
31.5 but I use a d-loop so closer to 30.5
When I compute my draw length, it comes out to 28.4 but I shoot the best at 27.5. As it turns out, that inch of draw length equates to quite a bit of speed and energy. Hunters with a longer draw must be getting some serious performance out of their setups. Great question and thread.

I remember a Monster Bulls video where they talked about the retired Dallas TE (forgot his name) had a 34" draw length(he was 6'6"). I wonder what Manute Bol's draw length would be if he shot archery?! ;-)
Same answer. Most guys are still buying the wrong DL. Actually the box store salesmen mostly have no clue.
5’4” and I shoot a 27” draw.
I am 5'11" and shoot 28". I shot 29" in my early 20s. I was a good shot but had problems with consistency on occasion. I was at a range one day and started talking to an older guy shooting a target rig. Long story short, he watched me shoot and suggested I take it down to 28" to help with my consistency. I took his advice and have never looked back.
I used to be a 27.5, but changed to 28 a couple years ago.

I don’t know what the average is, but I would guess for most, it’s too long.
28 since average height is 5'9" or 5'10" is 70 inches so here is the math, roughly 2.5 is the figure you use so the formula is 70"/2.5=28"
Pretty remarkable that everybody's draw length happens to be in .5 increments.
28.5” for me, I’m sure I could knock 1/2” and be fine.
