A friend of mine got a picture on his trail camera of some animal that defies immediate identification but from all the signs its a couger. A little rare for NW Pennsylvania but I have heard of other sightings. The thing that's throwing us off is whatever it is has a tail with a white tip instead of the black tip you'd expect to see. Can lions have white- tipped tails?

I've not seen one. They are usually black tipped.Post the picture.

I'd really like to see the picture.Honestly,I can't think of a single time I had a lion on camera, even the fuzziest IR,pictures, that I had to wonder if it was a lion or not.

I see grass and corn on the ground. Is there something else?

I thought for a minute we had to wait 5 years for the picture. But it’s in Kansas and not Pa.

I’ve been fortunate enough to get many pictures of lions on cams. One thing I’ve always found, is if you have to try and convince yourself it’s a lion it probably isn’t. With the amount of people that hunt with hounds, and set cams back east, don’t you think there would be a lion treed or unquestionable evidence?

Cougar or lion? I’d say if it one it’s likely the other.

Right here....looks like a house cat with its head turned away slightly behind its body. My bad outlining skills....

My guess is dog.....80 pounder.

A few other pics from that camera with other animals would be helpful though.

If there is a lion in Heavy's pic, I am a dead man because I don't see it.

But it doesn’t really matter on a 5-year-old thread, does it?

Maybe it’s just the low res of the phone screen? I thought I saw something cat-like (puddy tat?) in the first rendition of that photo, but without anything for scale, hard to know.

But JMO, if there ever was a pic of a “lion” with a white tip on its tail, it was just ol’ Morris out for a stroll....

GF, yes a 2012 thread, but I believe all the replies are about the new photo from a different state, posted yesterday.

The funny thing is a picture was posted yesterday from a 5 + year old camera and posted on a 5 year old thread.

Wow talk about low def. Even selfie cameras take better pics then that.
