I killed the whitetail of my dreams and really wanted to do something just a little different than a normal semi-sneak type deal so I opted for a wall pedestal, because I have young children and thought if it was on the ground it may see some abuse. Once they're a little older I'll drop it onto a pedestal. The wall pedestal has grown on me quite a bit though!

Sorry for the pic...thought it showed the base. Both bucks mounted on a piece of old fence post in a dirt (in a box) base. It looks pretty good in person.

Here's a novel idea I came up with a couple years ago. That big non-typical I shot in 2011 rubbed a 6 inch cedar/juniper tree just before I shot him. I went ahead and cut the rub tree down and mounted it upright on a huge base (26" across), thick (5") slab of red cedar. Great wood color and lots of character with the red center and yellowish border. I don't have any photos of it but if anyone wants to see the mount it's presently on page 11 of the 2014 McKenzie Taxidermy form catalog. You can just google it up. It's one of the 6900 series forms and was mounted by Dennie Behn. So my buck's last rub is now the upright for his pedestal mount. It came out absolutely excellent and is one of my most prized possessions. BW

Here is a muley pedestal. I used a cedar fence post from the ranch owner. I also got the octagon base from a guy I found on taxidermynet.com. The base come in pieces to cut down on shipping cost.

This is a mule deer that had the form modified to turn the head more. The base is from McKenzie as is.

I would be very interested in seeing the full mount and base of the double buck mount. I am trying to decide on a display for two antelope that I want to mount together to save space. I will likely do them as a wall pedestal type mount, but with a pedestal type base and possibly other features such as a fence post, etc.

I laser etched the leather backing with a field photo and P&Y score sheet.

Not sure you can see it but there is a trail picture laser etched in the base.

What you can do with a pedestal mount is bound only by your imagination. A good, creative taxidermist, can do almost anything.

I had the taxidermist modify a Muley Wall Pedestal so that it was looking back and down. A lot depends on how you have your mounts set up and located with other stuff you have in the space you have it.
