Does anybody have pictures of bison that scored over 100" that they can post?
Thanks,
Gene
if memory serves me this was 109 but may have been 111. not free range.
This was about 103 i believe
Nice bulls. Does anybody remember the base and length measurements?
Mine is very similar to Bob's. Lengths 16 6/8, 16 3/8- bases were 14 6/8 on both. Scored in SCI, P&Y method would put it 115"+ but it was not a P&Y allowable area.
Wyoming region 2. Free range.
Thanks for the pictures and scores. I had posted this topic before I left for my hunt in WY. To have some reference as to what to look for.
After my WY hunt, I can now post a pic of my own 100"+ bull. Using a cloth tape measure I came up with 108". It is a free range bison, so I will have it P&Y scored after the drying period.
Edit: 109 6/8 gross
108 net
Great bison!! Congrats on drawing a tag
I have been itching to go Bison hunting this past year. Just have to pull the trigger on where and when
Any recommendations from anyone as to where to go and prices?
Screwball... They range widely and all depend on what you are looking for out of the hunt. Prices currently range for a mature bison from $5500-10500.
I'm hoping for the 10$ route :)
It won't happen though.
great job
big arse animals aren't they!
I think this came from Legnard, but being a Colorado State Alum as well- it is always good to knock down Buffy when we have the chance!
Sorry about McElwain.....
Bob nice one u need to go back to the Pink MTs in Dec :>
bison can be tough to field judge
Nice buffs guys! I hope I get to hunt them one day here in WY!
Generally I like to turn my shoulder mounts 1 way or the other. However thinking a big buff may be better straight on. What do y'all think?
They are a BIG head.....figure out where you are going to put it.....make sure that it will fit AND look good there.....then figure out which way you want him looking before you have the work done.....may sure you know where the stud is....those mounts can be heavy and cumbersome.....and you'll want to take those things into acct BEFORE you go to put him on the wall.....
This is a cool thread. I am going bison hunting in October in B.C. and to be honest i had no idea how to even score a bison before this thread..
I am considering doing mine on a pedestal mount. I am running out of wall space, a pedestal will give more options for placement and relocation later on.
This one was posted on bowsite, a while ago.
Pedestal mounts on large animals seems to work great.
Hanging my Bison Shoulder is a pain, it requires a 1/2" 5" long lag-screw to support it and putting it up, I get all covered in bison hair.
It is all a matter of your personal taste, but I almost never mount anything straight on. A slight turn, or wall pedestal based on where it will hang seems the most recent choices.
Even with tall ceilings, stuff like Elk, Moose, Bison, Muskox would be good things to have pedestals of.
The only decent sized one I currently have in a pedestal is Kudu.
Here is what a right turn looks like. My ceilings are 9' tall and it takes up more than half the wall.
Thanks for feedback guys. I can't plan for the location of my mount because I just sold my cabin and am looking for new property. Sadly most of my mounts are now in storage. Quite disrespectful for my shrines, but temporary.
This bull scored 115-2/8, SCI score was 64-4/8.
Hard to judge while swimming! Nahanni Butte, NWT 2005
I shot one in November and am having the taxidermist mount it with a left turn, will post a photo as soon as I figure out how, Dale
