Warren Strickland Super Slam
Mule Deer
Contributors to this thread:
Just read on FB that Warren Strickland has completed his NA 29 with a Sitka Blacktail.
Congrats to Warren!
That's awesome! Congrats Warren!
I was thinking about him the other day, wondering if he still was a big bowhunting name
Quite a Acomplishment. Congrats
That's great! Good for him.
Congratulations Dr Strickland!
I had the opportunity to bowhunt for Mountain Caribou with Warren Strickland, BigPizzaMan, and Chase Fulcher all in camp at the same time. Needless to say, it was a great camp.
Congrats, Warren!!
That is awesome, congrats to him. I now he has been trying to do it for quite sometime, what an accomplishment.
He has always been a stand up guy---good for him!
Congrats
Good luck, Robb
Always impressed with the Super Slam. Tremendous accomplishment. Congratulations Mr. Strickland.
By luck I sat with him at a P&Y Club luncheon a few years ago and was very impressed with his total life accomplishments which go way beyond bow hunting. His medical skills as a heart surgeon and philanthropy and spirit of giving are an example to us all! Congratulations!
Great accomplishment! Congrats Warren!
Great accomplishment by a hometown boy!!!
Warren is not only a great bowhunter, he is a great cardiologist. He saved my mother-in-law's life, literally!
Good job. That's a lot of effort.
Very cool! Congrats Warren
Congrats on reaching the pinnacle of bowhunting accomplishments. Thanks also for being a good role model for others, especially the younger generations.
An amazing accomplishment that most of us can only dream about.
Congrats Sir!!
Jake that was a great hunt!!! Did Chase also finish his slam? Thought they were finishing together???
Excellent !! Congrats to him!!
I helped Warren on a Columbian Blacktail hunt a few years back. A really good hunter & a true gentleman. His sense of humor was something that I will never forget!
Wow, what a accomplishment Congrats!!!
Wow, what a accomplishment Congrats!!!
I remember reading his Yukon moose story in Bowhunter a year or so ago and thinking that he sounded like the real deal, but I hadn't realized he was so accomplished in the bowhunting world. Congratulations to him!
A man of drive and conviction for sure. That he is a bowhunter makes me proud to be one.
Congrats on such a great accomplishment. In rare air.
Getting the Slam done with a bow is an amazing accomplishment. Congrats.
Congrats Dr. Strickland. A huge accomplishment.
I hunted with Warren for Muskox in Cambridge Bat, Nuvant, he is a great guy. Way to go Warren. 6-GOLD
Good job Warren glad you got it done
Thanks GUYs for all the kind words! This was a lot of hard work for a Guy who is a average hunter and a below average shot!
Congrats!! Awesome acheivement!!
Warren, An incredible accomplishment for sure!
What is next on your bucket list of hunts?:)
Mark
I would like to register them all in Pope and Young.......I have one that falls short. After that....just squirrel and rabbit hunting!!!!!
Great accomplishment. Way to go!!
Glad to hear it! Congrats to him on a great accomplishment.
What and awesome accomplishment. I am so glad that guys like Warren are in our ranks.
Congratulations, a great accomplishment!
Warren,
Congratulations!
Which species are you planning to upgrade? Amazing that you will have 28 species in P&Y.....29 down the road!
How many repeat hunts to get the sheep and bears?
Thanks!
Kurt
I haven't scored my Sitka yet.......it will be close but the others qualify. They have all been officially measured but I have been to lazy to submit the paper work.
I have shot 2 grizzly bears both on the first attempt . I shot both my Dall and Desert on the first attempt. The BigHorn was on two attempts in Canmore( by far the toughest hunt in NA). 4 separate attempts for my Stone.
It took109 days in the field for my Brown Bear......it was taken on the peninsula . I was determined to shoot only a 10ft bear......it squared 10ft 7inches Unstretched.......6 hunts.
Warren
Tremendous accomplishment and a plethora of kudos to you!! You've been a tremendous role model and ambassador for the sport. You've already established a tremendous legacy and best of luck in whatever comes next!!
thanks for posting, Warren.
Hey Dr. Strickland - An unbelievable feat to say the least. Congrats to both you and Chase. Very well deserved. Who did you hunt BB with on the peninsula?
Excellent Warren!!! Congratulations!!
Mike
Congrats Dr. Strickland!! An amazing accomplishment!!
If your Sitka has the matching G3 on the left it will make P&Y! do you have another picture of it?
How about a Picture of each animal in chronological order? Would love to see all your trophies!
I will have to hustle the pictures up.......I have a few on face book
My Brown Bear was taken with Henry Tiffany
Henry has the best area for giant Bears in Alaska. He is also a first class guy all the way. His results there speak for themselves.
Great achievement on completing the quest of a lifetime. When I take number 29, I will probably sob like a baby. It's an absolutely consuming task that takes a person to their limit in time afield and money shoveled into the pockets of outfitters. I love it.
I haven't had the priviliedge of sharing camp with you yet Doc, but I just missed you by a year in Mexico with Noska. I hope we cross paths some day in an incredible place.
Cheers!
Well done Sir !!
Congratulations on an accomplishment many dream about.
Henry is the BEST of the BEST!
Congratulations to him! Great Accomplishment/accomplishments. According to what I have read here, from a great guy as well. God Bless men.
Congrats!!! A feat not easily accomplished. I would love to see(as others have asked) photos of your 29 and maybe some stories as well.
I will try to post one picture daily. This Tule Elk was taken in northern California with Ed Mitchell. The bull gross scored around 317 inches.
Congratulations again Warren... thanks for sharing!
What an accomplishment. Congrats Warren.
That is a lot of hunting, I hope the last animal was as enjoyable as the first!
As a cardiologist, do you always aim for the heart or avoid it?
Amazing and congrats! Most of us have tracked Warren's adventures over the years...and i must say, and i hope i speak for many, that Warren's greatest accomplishment would be his quiet presence in our bowhunting community, one of the greatest ambassadors that we have, and for that, thank you!
Cambow x 2!!!
Thank you Warren!
This will be like the 29 Days of Christmas...er....bowhunting!
Mark
Congratulations! Phenominal achievement.
"I will try to post one picture daily."
Good idea
Very Cool! Congratulations on your tremendous accomplishment!
Looking forward to all the pictures!
Congrats on a huge accomplishment.
Congratulations! Thanks for sharing. I look forward to seeing all 29 and I know I will enjoy any words that you care to share. I know you will have fun with the bushy tails and cotton tails!!!!!!! Good eating too! My guess is that there are still a lot of big game trails to be followed by Dr. Strickland.
This photo represents one of my best Rocky Mountain bull elks. Without a doubt I would have completed my NA 29 10 years earlier if not for my passion for elk hunting. I have harvested 12 bull elk.......the large percentage of my elk hunts were unguided and with my great friend John May. John and I often had 2 or 3 elk tags in our pocket and traveled from state to state chasing rutting Bulls. This bull was taken in Utah with John looking over my shoulder as I took the shot. He scored in the mid 370s. John shot a great bull on that hunt as well. This hunt was unguided.........packing two Bulls out in frame packs was the most memorial part of this hunt! My back still hurts.
Great bull. Love the crowns.
Awesome!!! Looking forward to seeing all 29 pics! Thanks for doing this.
As an elk addict myself I sure understand how consuming those can be. (Not that they have kept me from the NA29 - that isn't going to happen! Lol). DIY elk hunting is as good as it gets!
Congratulations on the completion of a remarkable quest! You've earned it, and given back to the support in the process.
Outstanding, Truly something to be proud of. Thanks for sharing your pics. and experiences with us. Look forward to seeing the rest.
3 down....26 to go! Looking forward to the next installment.
This Elk was taken in BC with Brad Lister on the Sunshine Coast. The area consist of very thick, heavy growth rain forest . This fact in combination that these animals are a lot less vocal than the Rocky can make locating a good bull very difficult. Brad and I covered a lot of ground but our efforts were rewarded with a 340 gross 8X7.
love the mass on that Roosevelt
Looking forward to seeing all of them. Great elk and stories of them so far. Thank you.
This is cool! Congratulations to Warren! He is a great spokesman and ambassador to our sport. Wish he was on hunting TV shows representing us more than most of the knuckleheads of today.
Keep 'em coming, Warren!!
Congrats to him. I bought a video he made years ago, "Bowhunting the Land of the Midnight Sun." One of the best hunting vids I've had. He was writing magazine articles back then as well. seems Mr. Strickland went off the grid so to speak. He and the rest of the PSE guys like John May that he mentioned earlier.
Anyways, glad to hear Mr. Strickland is still at it.
I have to say, "thread owner tools" are the best invention ever on the Bowsite. What's next Dr. ? Moose or caribou? The Q/L caribe is the one hunt I regret not going on. I know Jack Hume is a great place but that is not in the cards. I know too many guys that lost big money (to me) at other outfits. Always love to hear the good stories though.
Great pics, critters and stories Warren!
Keep 'em coming!!!
Mark
The Agony of the Sheep:
Without a doubt taking the 4 sheep was the most difficulty challenge of my Super Slam Quest. It required 10 hunts to complete this difficult task. Each hunt would require 6-8 months of intense physical preparation.
The Dall was my first sheep and taken after 9 days of back pack hunting in the NorthWest territory. Jim Lancaster was the guide and was outstanding in every since of the word!
You know guys, I am the second best bowhunter in my house. My daughter Ashley has taken seven Pope and Young bucks with a recurve. She has shot an old 58 Bear Kodiak recurve at 44lbs for many years. Ashley has shot these bucks in 3 different states with one harvested in Alabama. Ashely also won the Arizona indoor and outdoor championship with a recurve. She was also invited to shoot in the last US Olympic trials.
Warren, I also have an Ashley & congratulation to yours! Also I'm happy to see you fulfilled your goal of a N.A. 29...We met at Arrow 5 years ago & I still remember the huge Blacktail buck you were stalking & your shoes coming off with arrow in your teeth. I also remember what you told the new cameraman when HIS shoes didn't come off... Happy to see you on Bowsite...We can learn a lot from you! David
That's pretty incredible. You ought to be proud of her. Seems you're doing something right.
Amazing, Ashley....congrats!
Warren,
Congrats again on an amazing accomplishment. What's even better is that you have a daughter who shares the passion with you.
I know that you stated you loved hunting elk, but are there any other animals which you would love to hunt some more? Are there any animals that you would not hunt again?
Whitetail, like all of us, is one of my favorite! I spend more time in a tree stand than I do anywhere else. There isn't a single animal that I wouldn't hunt again with the exception of a Polar Bear. This ole boy wasn't built for 45 below temperatures.
Warren: I remember Jim Lancaster's stride was one step for every two of mine. I wasn't guided by him but that big boy could sure move across the Liard Range!
Congratulations to Ashley... that is awesome!
Thanks for sharing, Warren.
Keep it coming!
Of the 4 sheep, without a doubt the Stone was my most challenging. It took a total of 4 grueling back pack hunts before claiming this animals. This pain could not be underscored more than on my final hunt for this animal.
My best friend and I, Chase Fulcher, had booked this hunt one year earlier. Three weeks prior to our July departure I had a incomplete rupture of a disc in my lower back. A two week backpack hunt was out of the question at this point. Chase however, would take no for a answer so off i went.
On the 4th day our hunt Chase took a great sheep with his bow. On the 9th day i took a 12 year old 160 inch Ram. This would not have happen without the help and encouragement of my good friend. Thanks Chase! This hunt took place in Northern BC with guide Troy Creke.
Warren,
Congrats on a great Stone's ram! As Im sure you know, you shot a Top 15 P&Y ram!
Mark
Some great hunts for sure. Congrats, I enjoy hearing about them.
The toughest hunt on earth! Rocky Mountain BigHorn in Canmore in the month of Nov; snow, altitude , wind and bitter cold.
This hunt took two trips; on the first hunt I missed a huge Ram at 45 yards. I was sick for one year after that miss. Return the next year, and shot a 181 gross and net 179 Ram!!!! Both Frank and Flint Simpson were guides......true gentlemen and awesome sheep guides!!!
I never get tired of seeing big rams! Those are great, Warren.
that stones is a brute too
Took my Desert in Sonora with Martin Leon. Great hunt with lots of sheep. My good friend and professional guide, Brent Sinclair, came all the way down from Pincher Creek, Alberta to help out. What a great hunt! This was a 10 year old, broome d off Ram. He was scored in the mid 150's.
Nice looking Rams! Let's see some Caribou and Bears!
Congrats again!
Congrats on the accomplishment and thanks for sharing all your pictures and stories.
Wow! Congratulations on everything! Amazing!
Lovin this thread. Thanks for posting
The thermometer never got above a -45 on this 14 day Polar Bear hunt.....other than the cold one of the best experiences I have had in the outdoors. The hunt took place totally on dog sleds . I harvest a 9 1/2 foot bear on the 10th day of the hunt. I was fortunate enough to acquire one of the last few permits to legally bring him home
that is the one I was waiting for. unreal!
Maybe your daughter will be the first female NA slammer with a bow??? Congrats to both of you!
Congratulations Warren. I'm humbled and honored.
This... is awesome.
But so many animals it's gonna be next year before you're done! =D
Love the little stories behind each one. Following every day of it. Thanks.
Dr Strickland thanks again for sharing! Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas!
Fantastic polar bear! That's one of my dream hunts. Looking forward to your other bears now.
Amazing...congratulations. You've made a lifetime of memories and are a role model for the youth of tomorrow. Outstanding accomplishment!!!!
Damn! Super cool! Congrats!
Damn! Super cool! Congrats!
An over the counter tag, and a good friend resulted in this Arizona Black Bear. This was a unguided spot and stalk hunt in the deserts of Arizona. The Bear measured 20 8/16 PY points and would weigh over 450 lbs.
Awesome!!! That polar bear is jaw dropping
The Polar Bear is awesome, but that black bear OTC AZ DIY Spot and Stalk and 20 8/16!!! is huge! is way more impressive to me.
black bear is awesome. did you stalk him in the pears.
He was eating prickly pears when I shot him. My goal was to shoot all my Bears on the ground.
Awesome bears and sheep warren! Merry Christmas!
6 hunts, 109 days in the field and one shot arrow resulted in this Alaska Peninsula Brown Bear. This Bear squared 10ft 7in. The Alaska Peninsula with its rain and wind has to be the most uncomfortable environment in North American. 60 of these days I spent with the greatest Brown Bear guide in the world, Henry Tiffany!
A very Merry Christmas to everyone!!!!!!!
Those bears are brutes. I have a friend in AZ who loves hunting the beats in the pears. If I ever can retire AZ is where I want to do it.
Merry Christmas and thanks again for sharing.
Congratulations Dr. Strickland! Thanks for posting and Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Aside from the great animals it is interesting watching the bows change through the years, Thanks also Dr. Strickland and Merry Christmas
The bows have changed for sure......as archery technology advanced over the years so has my accuracy. For many many years i shot a bow with draw weights of 100 lbs or greater. My set up now are usually 80 - 85lbs and have more kinetic energy than the older ones with draw weights in excess of a 100 lbs. All my animals however, have been shot with Rocket expandable broadheads with incredible success!
Gotta love Rockets, great heads with great results. That's an awesome brown bear. Spent 9 days on the other side of the mountain from his area this past fall. A very cool place on the peninsula for sure.
Looking forward to the rest, have a Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you as well! The pics and brief synopses are like the Christmas gift that keeps giving!! Looking forward to the rest!
This Grizzly was taken in coastal BC and squared 8 1/2 feet. It was an outstanding area with our 10 different bear encounters in a 10 day period. This was mainly the result of an outstanding salmon run that year.
If you haven't already you need to write a book about all your hunts....What an adventure !!! Love it !! Merry Christmas.
Don't think it would be very interesting reading....there are many NA 29 now. It was a great personal achievement for me but certainly nothing worth writing a book about.
I have taken over 50 bucks that would qualify for Pope and Young with 20 over 150. I have spent many hours in a tree stand over the years. My favorite places to hunt deer is Alabama, Kansas and Illinois. I will include a few here. The first two bucks were taken on my farm in Illinois......they both scored in the mid 170s and were taken out of the same tree stand one year apart on NOV 16th. The third buck was taken in Kansas and is a 170 inch 8point.
More great pics and stories Warren!
Keep them coming!
Mark
I don't think there is anything cooler than a big, clean eight!
What an incredible thread. Congrats Warren and thanks for taking the time to share your adventures. Happy Holidays:)
Without a doubt, bowhunting moose is quite an adventure. I shot my Shiras moose in Utah with a Do-It-Yourself government tag. It was all good until the packing started. The bull was taken in early Sept and was still in full velvet. I was fortunate enough to shoot a 340 Bull elk on that hunt as well.
My Yukon moose was taken in a very remote area of the Yukon. At the time of my hunt this area had not been hunted in several years due to the remoteness and difficulty in getting in. The trip was well worth the effort and result in gross 243 B & C bull that netted 223.
My Canadians moose was taken in the Northern most reaches of BC. This was an awesome hunt as well. My guide was very suspect of the Rocket all steel. The moose was shot at 48 yards with a complete pass through......never found the arrow. Needless to say, he is a die heart Rocket fan now!!!! This moose gross around 200 inches.
Dr Strickland
Those are incredible animals and amazing stories. I think every bowhunter would be pretty keen to read of all of them.
Congrats. Thank you for sharing
Dave
Mountain Goat had been another animal that i had a hard time catching up with. My first two attempts were plague with rain and mostly fog. One night I got a call from Bob Milligan in BC..." Warren, you need a Mountain GoatI hear". "I have just the place but it may take a little work getting there."
Bob had this very remote area in his concession that had not been hunted by residence or outfitters in many year. Bob would freqently fly over the area on the way to his base camp an see a large number of goats. Bob pointed out this hike would be a 8 hour very physical climb to get there with no trail to boot. I accepted the challenge.
What a great hunt.....took a awesome goat on the 3rd day. Packed up, hiked back down to the Alpine Lake. Rested a day and headed back out with Bob on a inland grizzly hunt. Took a great bear on the first day!!!
what a classic goat photo, excellent
Thank you for sharing! I enjoy checking this thread each day. Happy New Year!
Mike
Congrats! Thanks for taking us along with you.
There is nothing like a good caribou hunt.....most of my hunts required lots of hiking and long distance shooting. After my first caribou i realized the importance of accurate shooting out to 80 and 90 yards. My first caribou hunt took place in Quebec with Delay River Outfitters. On the 5th day of the hunt I harvested a 360's type Quebec/Labrador......saw lots of animal on that trip.
One of my more enjoyable caribou hunts was for the Woodland in NewFoundLand. This hunt took place with my good friend Todd Brady. We both took good caribou and saw lots of animals. My Woodland gross around 250 P and Y points.
I have taken 3 Central Barren caribou; one in the Northwest Territory and 2 in Northern Manitoba. All three were very nice caribou.
My Mountain Caribou was taken in the NWT as well....another very nice animal.
My last Barren Caribou was taken on the north slope in Alaska. This was a spike camp backpack hunt and by far my best caribou experience. Got a chance to see some real cool country and lots of caribou. This animal was pretty special......it was number 28!

simply great Warren! Enjoying this a lot.
Thanks Chris…..this thread has given me the opportunity to revisit some of my travels and well as archives the photo collection of the Slam.
One of my favorite threads ever! What impresses me most about your accomplishment Warren is that you also achieved this while holding down a demanding career and raising a family. To me, that's incredible! Bravo.
I always kept my God, my family and my career first. The real reason I walked away from Television and my own self promotion was that spending time with my family and daughter meant much more to me. Ashley is my best hunting partner now. That is priceless!!!!!
congrats on the accomplishment of the NA29 and the even better accomplishment of raising your daughter to be your hunting partner.
This has been a very entertaining thread to hear the recaps and see the pics from your hunts and to see how deeply your hunting passion runs.
Congratulations Warren on your achievement. Please keep posting pictures and commebnts. Enjoy every minute of precious time in the woods with your daughter.
Thanks Greg.........i treasure those moments!
God and Family first! Totally understand backing away from TV for bigger and better priorities, but the hunting world needs more personalities like you! We are woefully short on educated, well spoken, respectful and honorable men hunting on TV. Just flip on the TV, most of these guys can't even compose a sentence in English beyond the first grade level. It's sad, and the uninformed think these bozos are our representatives. I'd much rather be represented by the Warren Strictlands of the world!
Such an inspiration. Nice work and thank you for the motivation!
Warren, would you mind posting some trophy room pictures if you have them after your last few photos?
Also, do you have your sights set on anything next? That is besides a bugle and a tree stand next fall....
Congratulations x29 Warren! Thank you so much for sharing your animals and stories with us. The NA29 is just a dream for many of us and the ability to hear your stories and see your pictures brings us all closer to that dream!
P.S. Congratulations to your daughter Ashley as well and to you on raising a fine daughter and bowhunter! God bless!
I will dig up a few trophy room pictures to post! I took an old barn and converted it into my trophy room! Man, did I get a ton of bonus points from my wife for doing that!!!
Warren,
What are we going to have to do, to get your "partner in crime" (aka Chase Fulcher), to post the photos of his 29 as well? Considering that the two of you completed your NA29s together, and at the same time, that is pretty special......get that young man to post his photos as well, when you are done with yours!!!!
Will do! Chase and I planned for years to complete our slam together ........didn't actually think that could happen.......all the stars would have to line up just right. Well they did, we shot our Sitka about 5 min apart on Thanksgiving Day!
Five minutes apart?? That's incredible! I can only imagine the emotional ride that must have been! What a culmination!
The fact that two Slams occurred so close together we both will be assigned the same number......25!
Congratulations, what an awesome accomplishment. Thank you for taking the time to contribute all the photos and stories to this post. Now, get it all down in a book and a video and tell me how to pre-order! Again, Congrats!
I have about 15 of the species documented on video! I think we are all burn out on video hunts.
Now that's a man cave!!!! Congrats on an awesome accomplishment Mr. Strickland!
Awesome! This has been a great thread. Thanks for taking the time with it Dr.
Amazing...congrats on all your success!
Awesome. Thanks for sharing!!
That is neat..amazing mounts
Warren, congratulations on your fine accomplishment sir! I am in awe of your trophy room (barn), and much appreciate the effort you went thru to post a short story for each of the photos. What a journey. Hopefully you have enough left in the tank for another hunt or two. ;^)
Thanks so much for taking the time to post all of this. I love pictures and you, sir, are an inspiration.
Amazing. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you so much for posting your slam! Unbelievable accomplishment.
Your trophy room is beautiful with all the mounts and all but what caught my eye the most was all the traditional bows and the Fred Bear like wool fedora. Do tell more about the "antique artifacts".
Wow! What a trophy room. What are those floors made of? Beautiful!
The wool fedora is the real deal.
Thanks for sharing Warren... this is awesome.
I would like to see some of your & Ashley's Alabama P&Y bucks... but maybe that's another thread. ;)
that's amazing. what a great accomplishment!!!!
Warren,
I cant say congrats enough! The animals that you have taken are simply amazing. To top it off, you also have your daughter to share in your passion, it doesn't get much better than that!
Your trophy room is amazing as well.
This thread is one of my favorite of all time here on bowsite.
It is threads like these that put very expensive ideas in my head!
Mr. Warren,
How about a little short story on how you got started hunting. I assume, being from the south, it could have been small game or following deer dogs?? What got you started.........Seems like most didn't start out bow hunting.
Looking forward to the rest of the animals!
Fantastic thread Warren, it will be awesome to hear the stories first hand next season. What a great accomplishment!
Ready to run a Trapline now!!!!
Nothing short of EPIC!!!
Mark
Way cool !! Thanks for sharing !!
Thanks for posting . Beautiful trophy room. Hunt
thanks for taking us along, Warren. loved it.
Holy moly that is a trophy room. Nice collection of old stickbows!
Warren,
Thank you for sharing your story of your journey to the Super Slam, your beautiful trophy room(s) and the the successes of an already great bow huntress !!
I was born and raised in Dermott, Arkansas a small farm community located in the southeast corner of the state. A life changing moment was Christmas morning on my 12th birthday when i opened a gift from my parents that contained a bow with 3 ARROWS. After opening that gift the flames and passion for the sport of archery and bowhunting began to burn hot. I read ever book and watched every movie on bowhunting and archery that i could get my hands on. While most of my friends idols were Sports figures, mine was Fred Bear!. I was determined, at all cost, to walk down similar paths of Papa Bear. My trophy room is a tribute to that man who made it possible for all of us to experience this great sport of archery and bowhunting.
Thank you Warren just fuels the fire!
Dr Strickland has made his dream, and the dream of a lot of other bowhunters I'm sure, become a reality.
Thanks for sharing this epic achievement
Good luck and good hunting!!
That's neat stuff. Really enjoyed this thread!
Congrats again Warren. Thanks for sharing the photos and the stories.
Thanks for the trophy room pics and the stories!! Congratulations again!
Thank you for this thread, the fact that you are humble enough to post your successes on this website is a true description of your character, thank you.
Thanks for sharing your adventures with the community.
Your slam has a good "feel" to it - congratulations.
Took this American Bison in the Pink Mountains of Northern BC. This hunt was with two great friends; Brent Sinclair and Tom Hoffman. Shot a great bull on the second day of the hunt.
I was wondering where the bison, musk ox, mountain lion, and the rest of the deer were!! I never get tired of Super Slam pics and stories!
Has Bowsite been honored to be the first public place that your Archery accomplisment has been told in its entirety? Thanks so much! CONGRADULATIONS!!! } >>>>----->
Thanks again, Warren....lots of fun!
I have been a little tardy in the post....visiting Mom and Dad over the Holidays!
Wow, awesome accomplishment and trophy room! Who does your taxidermy?
This Coues Deer was taken on a semi guided hunt with Frank Noska. This turned out to be a awesome hunt. Took a desert mulie 3X3 that scored in the mid 170s. Also took 2 Coues deer with this deer grossing a110 P and Y points.
This has been a fantastic thread, absolutely at the top of Bowsite's greatest. We're blessed that you took the time to share this incredible accomplishment, too! Wow, wow, wow x 29!
Thanks, also, for your work with P&Y.
Harry Whitehead of Kentucky and Rocky Drake of Huntsville, Alabama have done the great majority of my taxidermy. They both do museum quality work.
Another Arctic Adventure, however this time not in -45 degree temperature! This hunt took place in September in a much more hospitable environment. The Muskox in this photo was taken in Cambridge Bay........a lone Bull kicked out of the herd.
Incredible accomplishments, thanks for taking the time to share the details.
The BookCliffs in Colorado has to be some of the most physical and challenging terrain to Cougar hunt. This hunt took place in late January with snow depths of 3 feet deep. The terrain was much to physical for snow mobiles.....on this hunt I had a very close encounter with this cat after it had bayed in a secluded cave.........he actually laid tracks on both myself and the guide before escaping the icy cavern! Several exhausting hours later the big Tom finally treed. One well placed arrow to the chest and the trophy was finally mine.
The area Noska hunts is the absolute best in the world for coues deer. I just couldn't believe how many racked bucks we saw there in a week....or how much Tecate we drank.
Loving the photos on this thread.
The Tecate was better than the deer hunting! Frank is one awesome guy!
Haha Tecate is my go to elk hunting beer. Spent a week hunting the Valle Vidal and Tecate was the beer of choice. That was my first time hunting New Mexico and now Tecate comes with me to just about every elk camp...and deer camp, and just about any other camp I'm in!
Sonara and Tecate....Does it get any better ??;)
Thanks for the pictures and stories. Congrats and thanks for keeping things in the right perspective.
Wow........simply wow. CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU for sharing all of this with us Warren!!!
John Lien
Warren, Thanks for the awesome pics and stories of your hunts. Congratulations having your daughter as your favorite hunting partner! You are a very blessed man.
This antelope was taken in Colorado with my great friend Phil Phillips. Antelopes really can be taken from windmills in the middle of no where! This one scored around, 77 P and Y points!
Yes. Thank you for the pictures and stories Dr. Strickland. Great stuff! Congratulations again.
Your taxidermist must be the second happiest guy on the planet! Congrats, not "just" a slam, but on all fine specimens to boot!
I get a TURKEY from him every Christmas !
Warren,
At what point did you decide/know that you would accomplish the NA 29?
This is such a great thread! Thanks so much for taking the time to post all of this. And congratulations!
A hearty congratulations to you sir... and thank you immensely for sharing so much with us.
Sincerely appreciated.
I never started out with the intention of completing a Super Slam…..I just enjoyed the adventure of bowhunting as well as the physical and mental challenges of bowhunting the different species. My most enjoyable hunts were those consisting of back country backpacking much like that required of sheep and goat hunting. These hunts allowed the full experienced because of the months of preparation required prior to the hunt itself. Bowhunting for me was never about the kill, it was an escape from a very demanding career; harvesting a animal was never a priority. Actually, some of my very best hunts i never shot a arrow.
After finishing my Grand Slam of Sheep I had taken 21 species. It was at that point i felt the Super Slam was a real possibility.
this is a great thread. great stories and pics. its interesting seeing the pre lasik pics vs post lasik pics. i had lasik in 2001 and it has been a blessing
Incredible accomplishment!
Thanx for taking the time to post it all up. It's been a great read.
This Desert muley was taken in Mexico and measured around 196 inches. The Western Muley was taken in Eastern Colorado and scored 182 P and Y point. Both were outstanding hunts!
Great job Warren. Congrats. What an amazing achievement.
Warren,
If you could...
What do you see as the pros and cons of having LASIK and being a bowhunter?
Thanks, Mark
I actually have not had the Lasix procedure performed. I started using contacts with great success 15 years ago! I do use the diuretic LASIX in managing my patients with Heart Failure with great success however.
Congrats on a great accomplishment and wonderful journey DR.! Thanks for sharing!
Any non-North American animals in your journeys? I didn't notice any in your trophy room pics and was some what surprised.
I believe a Bowsite interview may be in order.
Pat?
What a great life time achievement you accomplished right there. Good for you and your determination. Thumbs up!
Congratulations! Tough to manage such a feat while still practicing medicine.
I have actually hunted Africa twice; Zimbabwe and South Africa. Both were great trips but lets face it, the ultimate challenge in hunting..... particular in bowhunting is right here in North America. Of course, a trip to Africa usually results in the taking of a large number of animals; But for me, it has never been about the kill.....It was about the hunt. I have been driven mostly by the mental and physical challenges of a hunt......such as a BackPack sheep hunt in British Columbia or the challenge of a Brown Bear on the Peninsula. I always felt a great sense of accomplishment even when coming home empty handed on one these back country experiences. Just don't get that same feel on foreign ground.
Yes sir, quite a story of achievement. Very nice.
my best, Paul
I echo some of the same sentiments on SA, went over once and don't have any real desire to go back for some time. Way to many critters and challenges on this side of the pond to chase.
Thanks again for posting!
Thanks Warren for sharing your adventures.
It is also interesting to see the evolution of the bows that you used.
Great photo of you and Chase....tell that young man that I said "Hello"!!.....and get him to start a thread of HIS NA29!!
This has been a great thread. Thanks for sharing
