Hello Bowsiters

The 2016 spring Black bear season is well under way here in Alberta. Camp is all setup and we are into our second week of hunters. The weather has been unseasonably warm with little to no precipitation. Thankfully we have not been affected by the wildfires in the province and our best wishes go out to those who have been.

I would like to start by saying thanks to all those who booked with us for the 2016 season. Now let's get to the bears!!!!

Some of you may remember a bear called "Big Tuna" from last season. A big heavy chocolate that eluded us all season and only committed to a bait in daylight the last 2 days of the season. Well he is back and doing much the same as last year. Fingers crossed he makes a mistake while hunters are in camp.

Thanks guys for all the support and best wishes. The season is shaping up to be great once again. Our weather has been unseasonably warm resulting in an extreme early spring green up. Fingers crossed that we continue to harvest some great bears.

This is Andrew Goligowski from Minnesota. He was up here during the first week of hunters and was fortunate enough to draw first blood for our 2016 season. However it was his own. Haha. Poor guy took the scope off the nose when checking his rifle after the trip up.

Good thing Andrew is a very happy person and took it well as later on in the week he harvested his first bear. A beautiful 260 lbs boar with a 18 10/16" skull. Way to break the ice for is Andrew.

To wrap up the first week of hunters Mike Braun took this great bear on the last night. Just shy of 18" but has a beautiful hide. When we skinned him out we found a snare around his neck that was healed over. Goes to show how resilient bears are. Thanks for opening camp up with a bang.

Steve's bear was just a touch bigger then his sons. With Steve getting bragging rights it may make the trip back to California a little longer. This boar went 265 lbs squared 6'9" and reached 19" for the skull measurement. What week for both the Dailey men.

We had a very tough week of hunting due to weather conditions. Lost a couple nights of hunting because of it. The weather changed from 28 degrees celcius to -1 celcius and dropped 10" of snow over a 36 hour period. The activity on our baits slowed right down during the storm but slowly started to pick up shortly afterwards. Here's a look at camp the morning after the snowfall. Wet heavy snow caused a lot of trees to snap off due to the weight.

After the snow last week and cleaning up the trails it's time to post a couple more bruisers. This is Steve Anderson from Washington was able to take this great chocolate home with him. The numbers are in on the big black faced boar. He weighed in at 345lbs, squared 7'3" and his skull just broke into the 20" class by going 20 1/16". Great hunt with Kyle at Eagle Eye Outfitting. Kyle and Buzz work their butts off to get you on the bears and Dave did a fantastic job in camp. We had a great time with all of them. These guys are passionate at what they do and knowledgeable beyond their years. A memory was made that will last a lifetime. Thanks guys.

Thanks jack it was a pleasure hunting with you and joe this past week. Hopefully we can hunt together again in the future.

Rayzor I would say that your right with adding 75-100lbs for fall weight. Usually 20-30% body gain for fall weights.

Kyle, I agree with Jack, you run a GREAT operation, you go the extra mile to put hunters on what they want, right down to the last detail. The years coming look great with the number of colored bears coming as long they get a chance to grow up. We would gladly come back, as long as you will have us...and my final words...GOOD NIGHT DAD!!!!!!!!!!!!

David's bear broke our hanging pole trying to get him on the scale. He weighed in at just under 400lbs, skull measured 19 14/16" and squared a massive 7' 6". To top it all off he's a giant coloured boar. This is the result of letting the little coloured ones grow to be big coloured ones. Awesome bear Dave and huge congratulations.

Well guys one of our legends was taken down last night. Ken Dittig of PA was lucky enough to connect with "TANK". This giant boar has been haunting my dreams for the past couple seasons. He would travel between baits regularly and never stick on one long enough for us to get a hunter in place. This is just a teaser pic from last night when we got him out of the bush. The hide squared out at 7'10" and the skull measured in at 20 8/16". Tank is the perfect name for this brute of a bruin. That's not all, just to top it all off Ken took this bear of a lifetime with a Black Widow recurve bow at roughly 8 yards.

Well here we are coming to the final night of clients in stand for our 2016 spring bear season. Repeat hunter Warren Wolf is out tonight in the rain trying to get his second bear this week. Earlier in the week Warren took a great bear with us that just broke into the pope and young class of 18". A great boar with a very healthy coat and body weight of 245lbs. Tonight he is a after a boat that is hooked up with a sow and with any luck she will drag him into the bait with plenty of shooting light.
