Just returned from Greenland 2016
Caribou
Contributors to this thread:
This hunt is everything and more, thank you Frank. Also a big thanks to Tim and Calum from Scotland, Bill and Donna from VA. and Randy from LA.
I will not take away from other hunters possible adding their own pics so I will only put mine up here.
An old bull, probably 11 or 12 years old. Only had one cow with him and he may not have made it through this rut and winter. A great trophy for me!

If anyone has any question about this hunt, ask away I am just an average guy who saw the live hunt on here a couple of year back and booked it and went. Best hunt of my life. One note is that I usually shoot Traditional but it is not a legal method of hunting in Greenland, so I did this hunt with modern equipment. Back to the stick this fall.
Congrats on a super trophy and a memorable adventure.
Congratulations... awesome.
Excellent bull. Such a neat hunt
Congrats! Beautiful pictures.
...congrats....looks like you had an incredible adventure....no traditional allowed tho?
"I am just an average guy....."
I laughed when I saw this. Steve anyone who knows you knows how far from average you really are...but I get it. Congratulations on getting to Greenland, let alone taking a stud bull. All the best!
Beautiful animal, and scenery. Thank you for sharing!!!
Good Luck this fall!!!
Scar.
Grats! Yeah... "average guys" don't hunt in Greenland. Sounds like a great adventure though.
Well done! Did you get any video to share?
Awesome! Congrats on a great bull
and I thought you had to hunt those beasts when it was 40 degrees below zero.
Looks like a great hunt. congrats. Paul
Congrats to you. Thanks for sharing!
Congrats, that looks like a great hunt and one I would love to go. Did you go after a caribou? How are the plans to get the trophy home?
Great for you
Thanks for sharing
Good luck, Robb
VERY cool! Congrats!
Trad illegal? Never heard of such a thing!
No trad, that's about the most ignorant thing I have yet to hear.
Congrats on the bull.
Fantastic hunt and great trophy!
In respect of the ban on trad hunting, Greenland only just recently permitted bow hunting and may still be in the "learning phase". Prior to opening for bow hunting, test hunts were permitted and based on these, the requirements for bow hunting equipment were made. I expect the Greenland Government have consulted the Danish hunting laws closely although some of the gear requirements do seem "strange" to some of us. In Denmark you are required by law to pass a bow hunting shooting test with every kind of bow you wish to use for hunting. If you're a multi-skilled hunter, you'd have to pass three separate shooting tests for hunting with compound, recurve and longbow respectively. For each bow type, 5 out of 6 arrows would have to be placed within the vitals of a roe-deer target at unknown distances (No ranges provided and rangefinders not permitted) up to 25 meters.
There are presently very few bow hunters in Denmark (and Greenland) who have managed to obtain license to hunt with traditional gear.
Do you eat Musk Ox, if so what is it taste like!
Congrats. on your hunt!
Steve, It was a pleasure sharing camp with you. I'll post a separate report with my pictures. This was a once in a lifetime hunt. Thanks for sharing your pics and story.
Congrats on a great hunt and bull. Thanks for sharing!
Congratulations and thanks for sharing.
Thanks for all the comments. Greenie explained things well. I had a window of opportunity to hunt musk ox and I took it, no regrets.
The meat is fantastic is should be on everyone's bucket list.
Trophy will be heading to Denmark.
Cheif 419 had a video cam and has a great story to tell, but that's for him to share.
Great people, great hunt and perfect place.
Kevin Dill, you're too funny!
Oh yes, the learning phase, because several thousand years just isn't quite long enough. Laugh out loud here.
Helicopter flight was very cool!
Nice pictures! How do your cape and horns/skull get back to the states? I saw you mentioned Denmark. It must be fairly costly to ship them back from there if that's the case.
hunterken, everything is costly about this hunt, it just needs to be considered part of the initial expense when planning. Greenland is part of Denmark so that's where they go through to get to either our taxidermist or back to us fully mounted.
Congrats on a great bull and adventure!
Mark
Congrats! Muskoxen are really cool critters, I guided fishemen for 15 seasons in arctic NWT and Nunavut and had lots of encounters with them. Got charged a couple times while taking photos, that will wake you up! Sure hope to hunt one in the future.
Congrats Steve. Good to see you're still goin for it:-)
What an awesome hunt! Glad you shared your pic's as well!!
