Good luck on your hunt!! Can't wait to see pics
Everyone who passes through that tiny airport takes that pic:) Can't wait for the pics and story! C
Being from Colorado, you can not miss. Good luck. Paul
Here's what you are looking for. Don't hold out too long.
Best of luck!! Hold out for a big Ox!
Good luck and post tons of pics on your return!
That hunt is really a fun one. I did it some years back, and was absolutely thrilled to hunt with the natives in Nunavut. The guys that guided me (and took care of my mom, who came as photographer) were the "real deal". The peripheral activities were worth the price of admission, since mom got to spear char at some Rapids and I got to skiff across the ocean at the top of my continent. Muskox is incredible table fare. I think it's my favorite wild animal, ever, as far as eating quality.
Here's to tagging both critters! Best of luck. I hope you see more caribou than I did!
Looking forward to the updates. Good luck
Good luck on your hunt! We're waiting for pictures and a story when you get back.
What an adventure..... Good Luck Blayne!
Good luck! Are you hunting with Kyler and Boyd's outfit?
Good luck! Looking forward to hearing how the hunt went.
Good luck up there Blayne!
Mad Trapper,
I'm poaching Kyler's wifi right now :) I connected with my bow on a bou last night. He has double shovels and back scratchers. Tops are decent. Haven't seen a muskox yet! One of the guys in my hunting party connected with a muskox on day one. Another buddy's luggage didn't show up....no bow! He used a camp rifle and tagged out on a super nice bou and ox. The outfitter has a great camp, good guides, etc. Basically lost today to weather. Only two more days to make it happen!
Blayne
Good Luck Blayne! Save me a good bou and ox for next year. Tell Kyler I said hello.
Goodluck Blayne! Congrats on the Bou! Mike
Awesome! Congrats on the caribou. Good luck with you ox!!
Are you with Adventure Northwest? If so, what camp?
Congrats ... looking forward to pics and the story
Just got home. I'll try to post pics and details over the next couple days. I need to sort out SD cards etc. plus there's this thing called "getting back to work" :) AWESOME trip!
Look forward to seeing the pics and hearing some stories...
Looking forward to the pictures and stories for sure.
It has been too long since I saw that bear in Yellowknife - may be next year...
Awesome Saint! Looking forward to seeing your pics and story! I've shot a lot of snow geese that were banded in Nunavut! Would love to make the trip there sometime!
SD cards are at work...I'll try to download them tomorrow. Here are a few pics I took with my phoneskope. The video is outstanding!
The dreaded black flies! Every stalk I went on they destroyed me.
The bull in the first photo looks to be an exceptional one, I hope you shot him!
Sorry for the delay in getting the pics and hunt recap posted!
First off we had a great hunt with Adenture Northwest. Kyler and his crew did a great job accommodating our group. There were no major issues and the guides did a good job. I hunted central barren ground caribou a number of years ago and had a bad expiernce with the natives drinking, not working hard, etc. We experienced none of this. Obviously some guides were a little more hard charging than others but everyone had a great time.
Here are a few pics of the plane, camp, etc.
Camp photo's were on another card. We used boats to cover 30-50 miles a day to access different areas. We lost one day due to high winds....water was too rough.
One day was so calm it looked like the lake and sky were one!
Can't wait to see this unfold!! Leaving in two days for muskox and I am pumped to get pumped by your report!!!
We saw a lot of smaller caribou like this one.
The caribou and muskox were a little scares for sure. We didn't see a lot of either species. Infact I didn't see a single muskox until the end of the hunt. I ultimately shot the smallest bou out of our group. Two potentials B&C bulls were shot with rifles and two with bows
He has great double shovels, back scratchers and okay tops. I was pumped to get him with my bow. I shot a good one a few years ago with a gun but I really want to get all 5 species with my bow.....2 more to go!
The water is pure enough to drink straight from the lakes!
Here's a distant pic of camp. There's an electric fence to keep bears out and we did see several! Lots of wolves too.
I finally spotted a heard of muskox off in the distance. Unfortunately there were 33 in the group.....lots of eyes! By the time we reached the herd we traveled just over 8 miles
Sounds like a blast ! That's a great bou in my book. Pretty !
My son and I hunted caribou with Webber's Lodges Outfitters in Nunavut back in 2014. It was a fantastic experience and we both took two bulls each. My wife and I are going with them again to hunt moose in September. I am thinking about hunting muskox with them too. Great outfit and a fantastic adventure.
We connected on the big one unfortunately it was with a rifle. I belly crawled through the tundra with my bow on the back of my legs. I couldn't get any closer than 200 yards away from the muskox. I waited 1hr - 45 mins hoping they would come back my direction but that didn't happen. The wind started to switch and I knew I had to make my decession quickly. With daylight fading and the hunt winding down I elected to use my guides rifle. At some point I'll re-do this hunt but for now I'm still happy with the outcome. This is my 22nd big game specie in N.A. and probably my favorite group hunt to date.
Beautiful bowl congratulations the only unfortunate thing about that was that you chose to use the word unfortunately in your description
Unfortunately probably wasn't a good word choice. I was a little bummed we didn't have any other opportunities. Unfortunately I'll hopefully have the chance to hunt them again ;)
Good hunt and recap. A friend of mine has a full body musk ox mount in his house. At the time, it was the first life sized I had seen. I was unprepared for how short their legs are, but a beautiful animal nonetheless. Congrats !
That musk ox is huge man, very nice! Way to go!
Thanks for sharing your story. Please post more pics and details. Nice bosses on your ox!
I'm just calculating how many and which of my body parts I give for a shot at either of the bulls you killed! Congratulations!!
Do you have a rough idea of score on the muskox?
Ambush,
They think he'll be pretty close to netting B&C. I'm going to have the bou and muskox scored in a couple months. I'll let everyone know the score then.
I'll try to download more pics and posy more details too!
Blayne
Congrats on both critters... Sounds like a great adventure!
Mark
Awesome 'bou and ox! Congratulations!
Both of those are on my radar.
Hope to hear good things from Ambush and Kurt on their adventure
Unless I'm seeing something different, the musk ox well surpasses the Boone and Crocket minimum.
Congrats and thanks for sharing.
I'm booked with Northwest Adventures for 2017. Your posts have me excited already!
Nick,
I think he'll surpass the B&C min as well....just waiting for the final score :)
Blayne
Congrats on a great hunt and a couple of awesome animals!
Congrats Blayne!
Thanks much for takin' us along..... what an adventure....
said ya had a few more pics? =D
Congrats on a couple beautiful animals!
Muskox scored 122 7/8. Few inches bigger than we originally thought! I'm told he is tied for #25 in the B&C record books. Wasn't expecting that!
He is an absolute brute to be sure. Well done
Looks like a great adventure Thanks for sharing. and congrats !
Congrats on some great animals. Were you guys on foot chasing those Ox or on fourwheelers?
Mad Trapper, we hiked 8.5 miles on my gps to get to these muskox. It was a LONG night!
How'd I miss this... Congratulations Blayne. You are automatic! Ed F
