When you have a bear hide tanned, do you leave the claws in, or take them out? Also does anyone know the ballpark cost for bear hide tanning in Colorado? Thanks

The claws stay intact. My cost from the tannery is 36.50 a lin ft. As the taxidermist I have to turn lips, nose and ears; Then flesh and salt the skin. After the skin is dry, ship out to be tanned. 50# bag of salt is $8.00 and shipping will be $65.00 there and back. We are at $255.50 The process will take 4 hours total. My Guys make $35.00 per hour. I have to match their taxes costing me $65.00 per hour. We are at $515.50. The business has not made any profit yet. You can quickly see the cost of a average bear (5ft) will be $750.00.

I've got 2 bear skin rugs. I would seek only a quality tannery and knowledgeable taxidermist.
Think how the finished product will look in 20-30 yrs. Quality work is worth the cost in the long run.
Claws stay on the hide during the entire process.
