Headed back to Shiloh after almost a 3 year absence. Just made the Kansas turnpike. Orientation is at noon!
Have a virgin hog hunter with me so will be excited to see if Terry can connect as well.
What used to be a 1-2 times a year event with 4-8 guys now feels like a once in a lifetime experience but hey when wife says "you need to go mill something" I'm not going to argue with her.
More to come once we get into camp.

Well orientation is complete. Now time for a nap after driving all night. Besides, it's 95 degrees down here and the AC is on in the cabin.
Then it's time to put Brandon through his paces tonight.

It's 10 minutes to 4 and we are ready to head out. The Virgin is headed for 2 so I'm going to set 1 or 1A. Still a hot walk but feeders go off at 530

Well. 1A just didn't look right this afternoon and I'm not keen on tripod stands as I can't film from them so I headed to stand 1
Inbowdude and I hung this double stand about 5 years ago and I've only hunted it once since so I'm super stoked about it. Unfortunately, on my way in I kicked up about 40 hogs bedded to the south of me.
Hopefully they will be back. Soon!! Got to get my pork on.

About 15 minutes til the feeder goes off. Squirrels seem know exactly what time it is as they like to tussle in leaves just enough to make you look.
Still Hot as Heck but I'm in the shade and have a slight breeze in my face so it's quite comfortable now that the sweat faucet are off

Wind is starting to swirl a bit as the sun starts to set. It's very light and I'm up 16'. Hopefully I did enough to cover scent and allow them to come in.

Wind certainly didn't seem to bother the Whitetails. Had as many as 12 in here at one point. No hogs yet, not even hearing them so looks like I'm in for the duration tonight.

An hour and a half of Whitetails doesn't put any meat on the table. Hopefully the next 30 minutes will be different.
I am able to hear the occasional altercation between hogs. Hopefully they decide to come in and at least take a look.

We are back at them this morning. Since we are limited to only half the camp we are back on the south side.
I have set up in a ground blind at 1A and Terry headed for stand 3
Feeders go off at 7 so let's hope the pigs are hungry this morning.
If I can secure pork I can chase Rams but first things first.

Did see one nice hog running the fence line.
Hopefully we can at least get pigs in the feeder. Makes for better pictures and a lot more fun.

Well as the second hunt starts to wind down. We will refer to it as the second quarter. Currently it's the Whitetails (any NFL team) 17 and the Chicago Bears (hogs) 0!!

Up to 23 Whitetails now with no hogs. Other than one running the fence line well before shooting light we have heard or seen a thing.
Time to head back to camp and work up a new gameplan for this evening.
Was really hoping to get one last night or this morning so we could do some super stalks on the Rams but looks like that is now out of the question.

Thought I was going to close the deal on a BIG brown hog. There was 3 ot them in a group on the way back in. All I could get a shot at was the top of thier backs and they turned and scooted off.
Did manage to get about 15 yards from a nice Texas Doll but can't justify it until I get a hog.

Start of the 3rd quarter. Matt said to hunt stand at 4 and stand at 6 so that's where we are.
Got a row of corn thrown down for that perfect broadside shot.
Just need hogs to cooperate.

You in the stand or ground blind at #4? When I sat there in June most of the hogs came from the W/SW and not from the area of Rattlesnake Ridge. If I would of been in ground blind would of been a bit better.

Had 12 more Whitetails in at 6. Even sent pictures of the nice buck that was with them to Matt.

Well last night ended on a down note when we realized we weren't going to find that hog. Had good spraying blood but it dried up real fast. 3 of us grid searched about 300 yards after last blood and weren't able to pick up anything.

That being said, it's 6:30am and I'm back out here for the 4th quarter.
After 3 I think the score is 34 Whitetails and 3 little piggies. There was a nice bigger pig about 100 pounds behind me but when he refused to stop eating acorns and come into the gold I took a shot.
This morning we will wait them out and listen to a mess of coyotes just off to the south.

Been over an hour his morning with no pigs. Gone are the days when every stand would get that group of hogs 20-30 at a time ranging from piglets to nice shooter hogs over100lbs and even the big hogs all together.
Heck we used to see that many every time we walked out to our stands. We seen a total of 3 while walking.
While I did mess up my one shot I had on a hog that would fit in a crock pot. It's always fun to get away from work for a few days and share some laughs while hunting.
Time to go clean camp and start packing things away.
Iowa Whitetail season starts in 2 weeks. This was more than enough to at least get the blood flowing.

Yes, I thought that when I did the wounded warrior hunt. Gone are the days like when I paid your way there the 1st time & you took your 1st biggame (this hog) with your bow. But, we know in bowhunting there are many "things" that make or break a hunt.. Weather, previous hunting pressure ect..
Yep, many things will never be the same.. I think this was your best down there.

We drove a few stands on the way back to camp and every feeder was cleaned out.
Except 2 where Terry was and 1a where is was. No idea why but we most have just picked the wrong spots. Lol.
When Matt came out after I shot this hog, we took maybe 2 steps into the blood trail and Matt says, "this is a dead hog". Man, it feels good to hear that.
Couldn't believe she went almost 100yards with a hole like that.
I think I'm in love with rage expandable broad heads.
