Whitetail Deer

Good luck Pat. Hope you stick a big one!
Good luck Pat and I look forward to your updates as your hunt unfolds!
"Most guys saw some good deer so I was just unlucky today."
I guess everything is relative. Most guys are in the office and you are in Canada hunting deer. I think you are not the unlucky one.
Full moon should be waning which will help. Hope you shoot a big one!
Good luck!
I have heard alot of good stuff about this Rob Nye guy!
When are you going to toughen up and come up for a Canadian rut hunt and really experience what Saskatchewan has to offer? I know you always have the Kansas hunt, but you need to experience the rut in Saskatchewan! Mid-October isn't the "dynamite" whitetail time and yet you see what Sask has to offer at that time of year :)
When is the "dynamite" rut up there?
Bou'bound- my thoughts exactly! I am sitting here sweating in my office and it is 80+ degrees(84+ outside! ;-)
What Bou' said (as I sit here in my office). By the way Pat, it's 78 degrees and sunny in Hartford today. Good luck in Saskatchewan.
Pat, do you have cell reception from the stand?
What's the temp/wind like?
Bou nailed it. I'm jealous.
Good luck to you. Enjoy every minute.
Good luck Pat! Hope today is the day!
Ghost - was more referring to Pat hunting the "lull." Same as most places, November is awesome, and I always find a lot of the biggest bruisers make themselves visible at the tail end of November. The search is hot for the last does trickling out, and a few fawns are starting to get into estrous.
Hunting with a local in Saskatchewan a few years ago, he always said about the 25th of Nov is when it really got good. Keep in mind they mostly "cruise with rifles." But the guy had heaps of 160-180" whitetail racks bouncing around in his workshop that weren't nice enough to have inside his house. He was just a super humble modest type farmer guy. Had a couple 200"+ bucks. Unreal how much bone was in his workshop. My buddies and I were all googoo gaga over his "rejects" lol.
With all the fury over the new website I can't believe Pat could take off and go hunting! Ha Ha , seriously go kill a giant Pat you have earned it!
This should be fun to follow
Your missing great deer weather here in ct. Record temps in 80's. Hotter than opening day I think.
I wonder if Pat has heard, or maybe even seen, the obligatory "live hunt squirrel" yet?!?
Looking forward to some good luck!
Eventually something will come in for you that you want. Hang in there everyone is pulling for you.
I'm impressed that the snow has stuck around!! Temps must be close to freezing most of the time. What's the weather like Pat?
"With all the fury over the new website I can't believe Pat could take off and go hunting!"
When the going gets tough (politics/bowsite), the tough go to Canada.
Pat the bucks that were shot - do you think they are representative of the area or are guys not seeing as many and resetting expectations? Not a knock on the area but I have been to great places where we just were the "tough" week so good animals were taken but not the typical giants.
Just curious.
Wow some great bucks killed already. Nice 9 point for Greg! Congrats!
Maybe "going home empty" is an option for you, but have some mercy on us poor working stiffs that aren't getting much time to hunt this year. I appreciate you taking the time to include plenty of cool reports and pics, but I really do need to see you kill something, and we obviously need as many bloodtrail challenges as possible. Pretty please?
As a Canadian resident, but from a different province, we used to be able to buy a non-resident tag for whitetails in Saskatchewan. Myself and a friend hunted, quite a number of years, within an hour or so of where Pat is right now. Knew some people up there and we had a great time. We went in October, so we could extend our whitetail season and still hunt the rut in our home province. October was tough. We took some nice deer, so no complaints, but the giants just weren't very active. We found the bucks had tiny home ranges at that time and unless you found those spots, finding them moving to the fields was a long shot. The farmers would tell of us the big bucks they saw in the summer and September, but they disappeared in October - not from hunting pressure neither. There was no one else there bowhunting deer. But, it is a beautiful time of year and we enjoyed the heck out of it. Since Saskatchewan has put Canadian residents on a draw, we have applied every year. Haven't been drawn yet, so it has been a number of years since we have been there. Really miss those October hunts.
That ten point sure looks like a big bodied deer....3.5 year old?
I was thinking the same thing Jake, but I think it's the butt-first camera angle that's making him look bigger in relation to his rack. And they do grow them pretty big up there... My first thought was that he was older, but the more I looked at him, I think Pat is right and he's 3.
I am not that accurate when estimating deer ages...but usually within a year or two....and really wasn't questioning Pat's age estimate. I was just impressed with that deer's size.....and his belly sag...camera angle definitely needs to be considered for sure.
Keep at it Pat. Good luck.
I read Killing the Rising Sun in 9 hours but that was hanging around the house waiting to go deer hunting. Everyone should read this book! Passing the deer you have already will eventually be rewarded. Each buck passed just brings you one buck closer. But you know that:) Good luck! C
That 10pt would get my blood flowing in NJ - perhaps not up there... The reality is, you can't shoot a bigger buck if you tagged that one. One of the benefits of potentially eating a tag, is you get to hunt more, so its all good.
wow- would have been very hard for me to pass up that 10pt-
It is funny, Pat, how pretty much every buck you passed would be a beast in CT... Location = reality...
Good luck Pat! Those deer have some big bodies up there. Now just need the rack to match up. Gotta be exciting to be able to see all the action. Definitely makes time go by faster
I appreciate being able to view the feature on my phone. I'd like to see video of kill please. :)
That chocolate horned 8pt. is gonna be something in two years. Maybe next year!! I agree even up there that 10pt. may be in trouble if I was behind the bow. Nice photos! Shawn
It will happen it is just a matter of time.
Pat, I saw the video that you were referring to....what a frigging animal.....I can't believe that he passed. You are right, it is a solid 170 buck!!
It's illegal to shoot a coyote? It should be illegal to pass a shot on a coyote.
I can't wait to see you get that new buck you posted a pic of.
So nice to be able to view the feature on my phone
it's just a matter of time.............the issue may be the time it is a matter of may be in November and you are in October.
Pat I hope that beast shows up! Good Luck!
"getting way more selective as I get older. My killer instinct is not as strong as it was 10 years ago."... Boy, ain't that the truth with me too... Curious as to how old you are Pat, I'll turn 57 in a couple weeks...
I might try to stay an extra day or two for that one...
Good luck guys. Looks like fun out of country so to speak. A? my best, Paul
Definitely a shooter! Very cool buck....hope you get a crack at him!
Holy shit that pretty much sums it up good luck Lewis
Pat, He is coming! Hang in there and I hope he is hungry and comes before dark.
Close to 200 inches! Don't get the fawn shake:)
He'll be in just be ready
Awe man........make it quick with the update
Waiting with baited breath!!!!!!
Hopefully those are post-shot shakes and not pre-shot shakes. My money is on you.
maybe hes just really cold? lol
hoping for the best
He just wants more site traffic from all of us coming back checking for updates every 5 minutes...
I've been refreshing 10 minutes now, type faster :)
I'm hoping this is GOOD news!!!!
You guys are going to like how this ends!!!....at least, I hope so....!!
I'll just be the first . . .
Congrats Pat!!!
189 gross is my guess. But I bet his body size is throwing me off
I think he's out skinnin' the thing. well done.
This is a horribly cruel punishment
Can't leave us hanging like that Pat! Impatiently waiting for pics!
Day 6: Relax and admire monster buck!
Come on man its Sunday the hunt is over finish up with some good news that buck is a true monster.
No one likes a tease, Pat! ;^)
We need to have an internal investigation to find out why this is taking so long .
Wow. What a brute. Impressive deer
"Shaking so hard I can barely type. " = "I just shot the biggest buck of my life and saw it crash".....
With 4 Bowhunters left in Camp without a deer how did you decide who gets to sit where the big boy was? Did you guys flip a coin?
Well whats the hold up ??
Refresh....refresh.....refresh.....refresh........
My guess is he shot the buck just before dark, thinks it was a good hit, but didn't want to press the buck, so let it be until this morning. Then I'd guess they'll find it without much trouble but the 'yotes will have found it first.
That's exactly what happened to me when I hunted with Pat in Kansas a number of years ago. We went back the next morning and found him immediately, not 75 yards from where I was when I decided to let him be overnight. The 'yotes had destroyed everything from the front shoulders on back, but luckily the cape was untouched.
If Pat was successful, he is trying to line up the movie rights before releasing any video or photos....He'll have Angelina-free Brad Pitt star as himself.....and Bullwinkle will star as the buck.....Hilliary will star as the spooky doe that tries to keep the buck away from Pat's stand.
Probably right. Never Know
Cmon Pat. Airplanes have wifi now
Today is the first time I opened this thread. I'm glad I waited, got to read it all the way through. So, I'm confused. Is he through, because I couldn't access day six ? Waiting on the other La Crosse Aerohead to drop Pat !
well I sure hope it's good news and not some bad news on a tracking job. Long wait here for sure.
The longer the wait, the more concerned I'm getting.
Oh, man....don't like this.
Positive thoughts, tho!
Getting a 3D printer uncrated while on the phone with tee shirt distributors ain't easy.....
"Just give him a minute"....
They are waiting for the 60 day drying period to make this official
He is just messing with us to see how many hits the thread will get. Medicine man already told us we will like how it ends.
Pat mentioned he was going to read "Killing the Rising Sun" on this hunt so perhaps he's doing that first? Took me 9 hours to read. It's a really good history book. C
that's a 185" non-typical IMO ... maybe a few inches higher
The man is making sure all his ducks are in a row so one of you Sally's don't give him a hard time for shooting A buck that big! 218"
The website fixes we've been complaining about can wait. We want the story. I hope it's all good.
Wow, what a buck! Good luck Pat....
Jimmy Sexton can be tough to find....I'm sure he'll get to us when the price...I mean time is right.Leffy Buck? Saskanater? The Dyenomite Buck?
If my memory serves correctly, he saw that big buck on the last day of his hunt. He has probably been traveling all day....returning home from Saskatchewan. Might take a day or two to get enough time to get in front of a computer and provide closure.
The paparazzi has had the Hartford airport staked out since 3pm and no sightings have been reported. He may have stayed extra time to tie up loose ends. Like finding s taxidermist.
This is kind a like that dude that posted asking for advice on finding his elk that he didn't make a great hit on and then when everybody was sucked in, we never heard anything back ....... I thought medicineman gave it away, but im starting to wonder. I dont need the full story yet, but a quick yay or nay would be sweet....

Congratulations,, my friend!
Congrats Pat! The look of satisfaction on your face says it all. That is the buck of 2 lifetimes. Well done.
what a beautiful buck of a lifetime. Very happy for you Pat - congratulations. Great footage too... Looks like the slick trick did it's job! Those buck just look different up there with the chocolate horns and all the points and mass. How do you get "up" for some CT. bucks now?
Pat does things right all the time/every time so I figured he was preparing the story and video while flying home in order to be at work in the am at his real job! So well deserved and I know you appreciate the beast and all that bow hunting means to us! Enjoy! C
PS: I hope each and everyone of you someday have a dream hunt like this!

Great story, but understand that Mad Trapper and I are going to want to listen to you retell the entire story in Kansas deer camp.....Congrats, my friend.
Awesome Pat! Congratulations.
Absolutely incredible!!!!! Congrats Pat:)
Pat, that is an incredible buck. To have the composure to get it on camera self-filming is beyond awesome. I've done a lot of self filming and to get it done on a buck like that is just amazing. Big congrats...... Way to stick it out till the end. Those who work the hardest usually get the luckiest! To post the trail cam pic and then kill him the next day reminds me of the Babe calling his shot. Way to go man....
Congrats Pat! Wicked looking buck!
Wow! Awesome job Pat, congratulations on just an amazing buck.
Congrats Pat ! Way to hold it together on the shot of a lifetime!!!

Congrats on a fantastic buck! Awesome story!!
Tremendous buck!! That was an awesome hunt.
There just aren't words for a moment like that...
Beautiful buck, and very unique to boot. Love those mulie forks. How much did he weigh? It's hard to tell with those big Northern bucks just looking at pictures.
Congratulations on a true giant!
Dang! Thanks for sharing! Epic
are u getting it mounted?
Almost seems easy. Get one pic of giant buck, decide you are going for him, next day pick a stand, see him in the morning, watch deer all day, in late afternoon he walks right under your stand then broadside at 12 yds. Only takes 35 years of hard work for that to all come together. I'm obviously talking tongue in cheek here. Congrats and that is just awesome that it happened.
Congrats, Pat! What a beast, and a great story to boot! Way to hang in there and stick it out!
LMAO, Jack! I think he is PROBABLY going to get it mounted! ;-)
Congrats FOG!!! Tell me the truth. Were you using any mustard for cover scent??? Between you and Blackatil Bob, I am thinking about selling all of my scent control gear and just getting a case of mustard. Looking forward to Kansas. I understand that you will be hunting out of the garage behind the house to give Jake and I a chance.
The website fixes we've been complaining about can wait. We want the story. I hope it's all good.
Heck of a buck. Congrats!!
I love it when things work out the way they're supposed to!
Should be a full body mount! Congrats! Way to go Rob Nye as well!
Congrats on an amazing buck!

O.K. first congrats on just one hell of a buck.I know no one on here hates coyotes as much as you or I but you stated if a booner and coyote came in I would shoot the yote now look me in the eye and say if a yote came in with that buck would you or could you shoot the yote.I think I know the answer. Now go get another one.Lewis

Buck of a lifetime is right! Congrats!
Truly Amazing! I don't think I could have passed on all the other deer. Great story and congratulations on a beautiful buck!!
Scar.
Wow......Congrats on a great hunt Pat, once-in-a-lifetime buck. Last minutes of the last day and being persistent pays off, gotta love it!
Wow, very awesome to say the least! I was super impressed you did such a fantastic job of filming - can you share the details of what camera and mounting system you used? A bit risky turning the camera on and arranging it for the shot esp. at that close range, but you did it all!
Congratulations also to Rob, plus everyone at Canadian Trophy Quest that have created such a fine operation. Lifetime memories for sure...

Pat, I'm also curious if you used a remote camera switch as the camera angle vs. arrow flight angle seems to suggest the camera was not from the same position. Very nicely done, regardless...!
Congrats on a giant! The last day recap was absolutely riveting....great story telling!
And perfect video of the money shot to boot!
Holy Crap did you earn that one Pat! Nice job! Congrats!
How about Rob Nye!!!!! Fricken guy is a stud! Got to be one of the best at what he does!
Absolutely incredible! What a hunt! Grats! Great write up too.
What a brute of a buck! You made a great shot I'm sure under a lot of pressure. Congrats!
Wow, I have seen/heard of some last minute hunting success, but none come close to this one. Unbelievable! You da man! He also forever answered the question of is it OK to pee near your stand. Ya think someone might hunt that stand in the future???
Congrats on the monster! Great shot too.
The real hard part is gonna be talkin' Brad Pitt into shaving his head for the role.......
This was my third time hunting with Rob Nye and his group of top notch folks. Cannot say enough about Murry, Tom, Nathan and Holly. Hard working group with a focus on the client and animals. Rob is a deer/hunting/fishing encyclopedia. Will be here again very soon. Thanks again!
The only thing that would have made the video any better is if you had stuck your boot out in the frame!
Congrats on an incredible buck Pat!
Congrats Pat. My back was hurting just reading about your stand. Glad it paid off for you. What a beauty!
Congrats Pat! I don't know if you had better odds of shooting the phantom or there being a thread where Bou'bound actually made positive comments. Congrats Bou!
Congrats Pat. Your persistence and patience paid off and is a good lesson to all. What an awesome deer.
Congrats Pat. Awesome deer.
Congrats Pat,great buck!!
Good kharma comes to good people and even though we have never meet I feel like I could easily spend a week in deer camp with you. Great composure with the camera as well that's something that will always be here even when we can't climb trees anymore. Congrats again!
Congrats Pat, you earned that one!
Spectacular buck Pat!!!
You sure put in the hours in this hunt.
That last photo of you with the buck is awesome. The buck is looking right at the camera it seems and is pissed. A magnificent creature.

Congrats Pat, thats what its all about. Mike
IT JUST DON'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THAT!!! CONGRATS!!

Bill
All I can say is congrats Pat. Surely a once-in-a-lifetime buck. I give you a lot of credit because I would have said "screw" the camera....wouldn't have taken the chance. Well done and great shot!
Yea, and the day before I head off to Nebraska to hunt. Very nice Pat.
my best, Paul
Wow. That is so cool. I got a little sweaty palmed just watching that beast on camera.
That's a BIG Canadian buck! Congratulations on making a great shot.
Wow. A big congratulations Pat. Way to go. Happy for you!!
That's a beautiful buck, love all the split times, will look great on the wall.
Congratulations Pat! That's the buck of a lifetime. No need to look for one bigger than that.
Thanks, Pat, from all the thousands of us who've taken such gambles and it's never paid, before...same as you have, too. We now have hope.
I would not even ask what the score was if not for the fact the Bowsite itself is sending out emails advertising the deer and the score. This was received today:
Saskatchewan Live Hunt ends with buck of a lifetime While filming a Bowsite Live Hunt in Saskatchewan with outfitter Rob Nye - this 200" public land giant is killed in the last 15 minutes of the hunt - on film!
SO WHAT DID THE BUCK SCORE?
We do know 114 is out of the question:)
Late to the party ....... On film no less ! Great job Pat and many congrats !
A true monster! Congratulations!!!!!
Pat, that is great. congrats to you !!
Thanks for sharing your hunt with us Pat. Being on stand all day for multiple days and self filming - that's impressive! And a whopper buck is just the icing on the cake.
Congrats Pat!
--Mitch
Nice buck congrats! What kind of bait did that ol' boy finally fall for?
The excitement and joy of taking such a trophy will last a very long time. Congratulations on the great story and excellent footage.
That is a brute. Congrats and God Bless
Wow, what a beast! Congratulations, Sir!
Unreal!!
Congrats
Good luck, Robb
Way to go Pat! Always love your live hunts this is icing on the cake (or maybe in your case the whole bakery
"SO WHAT DID THE BUCK SCORE?"
Inquiring minds want to know...got a green score?
What did the gross and net green score end up at?
Looked back at this feature today.........what a classic. what a deer.
Indeed. And we still haven't gotten scores and taxidermy pics...
Blast from the past ghost buck
