I have not hunted either West River, SD public land for deer or the Badlands of ND. I want to do one of them this coming year. Looking for advice on which offers the best opportunity for getting in bow range.

Simply looking for the thrill of spot-and-talk and to cut my teeth on some western hunting.

Tags are unlimited in SD, not the case in ND for mule deer. That may be the first factor to consider. Hopefully that will be changing in SD this year as well.

I figured I'd ask now rather that later as I know that the ND application deadline is creeping up on me.

I think the deadline to apply in ND is fast approaching as well...

Lots of public land in ND-private land access will be next to impossible however.

you should check w/local biologist for SD. They have had some "interesting" weather in the past few years. Place I hunted lost a bunch of calves one year so you can imagine how bad it can get.
