The head looks small for the body. Don't know if it's because it's a night picture.

Hard to tell but I would lean to boar as shoulders are slightly higher than behind.

06-Mar-17
Agree. I'd say that's a big ole boar.

06-Mar-17
I'd say it's a sow because of the tiny wrists.

I am glad we're all in agreement..... ;-)

Wow, where is that bear, is it California? Could it have Arnold's genetics? I could be wrong, but the body looks way too long to me to be a sow. Sows also don't have shoulders like that either. Head looks small because its a big bear.

Here's another bear. Yes Bob it is in California. There's 6-7 that come into this area durin the fall.

Well according to the poll above I was right in what I was thinking. It's 50-50. It's either a boar or sow.

Here's another picture that could be the first bear. Head looks small.

Yes, that's a boar or sow.

It could be a soar or a bow. Whatever it may "identify as" at the time.

You would have to politely ask it to be sure.

Wait, it's Cali so shoot it and roll it over and you'll know for sure. Nice big bear whatever it is.

Forearms are the best indicator for me. That is a boar.

BEAR!

Again I could be wrong, but I'm kind of picky about shooting black bears. I've killed 26 of them that have been recorded in the P&Y record book. During the time it took me to kill those, I've killed one sow by mistake and she missed P&Y by 1/16th of an inch. Based upon what I see in those photos, I'd shoot that bear. Admittedly, I do have a hard time judging bears from trail camera photos, its way easier in person.

Its ok to shoot her she is a sow but identifies as a boar.

Here's a California Buck I shot. I guess the only for sure way is to sneak up and grab between its hind legs.
