Spring has finally come to Manitoba just looking at getting ready for the bear season, we had a busy winter one of my sons has 850 mother cows I was helping with chores things r slowing down with the calving. Next week the baiting starts hope we have a good safe season with the hunters. May 8th the first guys get here it's coming fast.

I tried to put a trail cam video on of him or another that was the biggest I seen at the camp, there big bodied deer here there deceiving. He looks nice in the daylight I had him at 40 yards with the rifle not a monster but a nice deer.

We will get Bill to ride that horse while we go baiting Greg, get him in shape for his Elk hunt. Put up a satelite dish had to take out the two maples in front the wife was happy they seed like crazy.

Went to the city yesterday to get the rest of the bear food, Friday we will start got a bearing to change on the argo should be good to go.

The rain and the snow have stayed away for a while now which is nice, last year our area got over 4 ft of rain we had the record they say we will be glad to give someone else the record this year. There is still crop in the field.

Thanks Jake next year will be here before we know it, We got 15 loads of gravel hauled up to camp today. If its not raining tomorrow I will get at the baits pretty much no snow left the bears will soon be looking.

I was telling the wife this morning that last one has a unique color, when I first started outfitting one of the guys shot a greyish blue bear have not seen one since. One of my friends two years back was guideing and a guy killed a strawberry roan colored bear very unique colours but rare.

I am up at camp right now planning my next project, I have a creek that runs year round I am going to try tile it to a holding area for my water don't know if it will work anyone tried this? I can drill a well but the water is salty.

Waited on the porch of the cabin last night watching wildlife dozen deer showed up, and a cinnamon bear come tearing out of the bait with a black right behind either the blacks chasing or a bigger bears coming sure enough 2 minutes later this chocolate shows up.

The boys r holding out they r seeing a lot of them, one first time hunter passed up around a 300 lb the last two night he said he will kill him Thursday I have seen this before he may never see him again. Time to get to work u all have a great day

More than once I have seen bears show up once or twice and never see them again. Some hunters go there whole life and never get a chance at a 300 lb spring bear. He should take advantage of the opportunity and kill him tonight if he gets the chance. That's my 2 cents for what it's worth.

Humble observation. This thread (and the other bear threads) is getting long and will end up covering multiple weekly hunts. Would it make sense to start a new thread for each week? That will make it easier for everyone to go back and review what is/was taking place each week and the photo's will not get buried in a long thread. Just a thought....

A husband and wife team got there Bears last night one chocolate for the Lady, and a blonde for the guy, not giants but nice Bears color what they wanted both crossbow hunters. We gutted them last night waiting for them to come will takes pics. The Lady's father passed recently, he left her his crossbow she wanted to take her first bear with it didn't have to track far.

Well that black came back in she shot but we lost him that's how it goes sometimes. My other guy Claire Bielat has been with me since we started in 1994 he dropped his rifle when going out last night I was watching him from a distance with the binoculars there was 4 bear on the bait all of a sudden they scattered this giant black walks in he was as wide as high it looked like from where I was he was there 1/2 hour what a bear of a life time he decided not to shoot he did not want to wound an animal like that, When he came back to the truck big smile first thing he said did u see that yep what a bear unbelievable. I told him u did the right thing by not shooting. That's how it goes also sometimes. Well to top the week off Joe Malloch. Bowsite handle jmail killed a giant 15 minutes left of legal shooting 450 lbs on the scale black what a bear he was Allan's guy this week. We will be takeing pics shortly we took the guts out last night, we have 2 weeks left Pray the Lord brings us Bears like he has the first two weeks.

Absolutely it's not always about harvesting an animal but taking it ethically and finding it! Just being there and seeing and enjoying God's beautiful creations is what it is all about harvesting is just a bonus! Thanks Alexis for such an awesome thread I absolutely enjoy it

They like the colors that's what most come for, we have no restriction on size u can take what u want if your happy were happy. there is 2800 square kilometers of park there is no hunting allowed, we hunt the edge of it. They get to be some giants in there which frequently visit the outside of the park.

This is Marks bear we were about 7 of us guessing the weight of him we were all over in the 400 lbs I said before we pulled him up it takes a big bear to weigh 400 lbs it was 402 very hard to guess the weight of a bear

Ditto what Grape said. If you're considering Manitoba or any other province for that matter, you'll never find a better hunt than Desjardins. Unbelievable bear hunting but unbelievable hospitality as well. Can't wait to get back next year!
