Taking a nap , while Roger anxiously awaits his first African adventure.
I am currently on a family hunting trip in Limpopo, South Africa. We are hunting with Freddie Vanzyl , African Trophy Pursuit. I am with my son Cody, my dad Mike, cousin Don and cousin Roger. This is my third time with Freddie, Codys second time with him, Mike and Roger are Africa newbies.
We left home at midnight and drove to JFK for our nonstop flight to Johannesburg. Everything with the airline and customs went very smooth. We landed in Johannesburg Thusday morning. Freddie offers a pick up service at the airport, but since there are 5 of us we decided to rent a van and drive ourselves to his lodge. Don offered to do the driving, it was a bit of an experience for him driving in the wrong side of the van, on the wrong side of the rode. We made it to the lodge unharmed. We unpacked, shot our weapons, had a nice dinner, and went to bed. We were all pretty exhausted after to nights with very little sleep. Everybody was anxious for our first day of hunting to start, today, Friday.

Day one is in the books, it was a bit windy and animal movement was a little slow but we still did pretty well.
Congratulations to Cody! Thanks for taking us with you.
That's it from day 1. Was a nice first day with family and friends at ATP.
Awesome! Do they also do "non-hunting" safaris when you aren't hunting. My kids love to hunt but the wife doesn't and would want to do some non-hunting stuff as well.
You are on a roll, Beautiful trophies . Forrest
Congrats on some nice memories and trophies. Keep it coming !!!
Looks like a great start. Congrats!
Sage,
They offer a lot of non hunting type stuff, there are even spa services available.
Good stuff ,congrats i cant wait for july
Day 2 was another good day. Everybody had action today. Pictures to follow.
Very Nice beginnings, congrats to everyone in your group.
Don tried spot and stalk for a gemsbuck today, had several close calls, but didn't end up getting one. Mike shot a nice kudu today, I'm waiting for a picture to be sent to me. He is "tagged out" on day 2.
Saw some cape buffalo while tracking the water buck.
This guinea fowl was fighting with his reflection in the blind window.
Did that waterbuck cow have a "stink" like a bull?
The watebuck cow had some smell to it, but my PH said it didn't smell nearly as much as a bull.
Today was another very good day. Cody was the only one hunting that didn't have an opportunity at something on his list, still he had a good day and saw a lot of animals.
Since Grandpa Mike is done hunting , he spent the day with Cody and a ph. I hunted on my own with my ph.
Pictures to follow.
Don had a good day with the impala

My cull wildebeest. Possibly the prettiest wildebeest in South Africa....
Man ya'll are piling them up in Africa. Congrats on some great trophies and evident fun hunt with family and friends. Keep the posts rolling!!
Looks like a lot of fun hunting to me. Forrest
great photo's and I bet an awesome trip that warthog has a heck of a 3 blade exit hole - what broadheads ya'll using ?
Our group is using a mix of broadhead. Exodus, Muzzy, Magnus, a couple of the smaller animals were even shot with Rage extremes.
Only one animal recovered today. We are getting to the point where we are each looking for one or two specific animals, so our list are much smaller than when we started. One animal from today has not yet been recovered, hoping to find it tomorrow.
Another really good day, nice weather and lots of animals seen. 2 more days to go.
Rogers day 4 water buck cow.
Busy day today. We retrieved Codys water buck this morning, then he and Grandpa Mike went to hunt wildebeest, while I spent the second day hunting one particular nyala. Don went to a different area to hunt bush buck, with good results.
Roger is tagged out and spent the day animal watching. Tomorrow will be our last day of hunting.
Glad to see you recovered codys waterbuck. tell us about the shot placement. all beautiful trophies . time went by quick, thanks for taking us along on a great adventure. wish I could go back. Forrest
Forrest,
If you check on the broadhead thread the details are there. Yes, it has gone by very quickly, but we still have a whole day left....
We have finished up our last day of hunting with African Trophy Pursuit. A couple animals down on the last day, I don't have the pictures yet. Cody and I hunted bushpigs last night and this evening, so we didn't do much daytime hunting. Cody came about as close to getting a bush pig as you can, but it didn't quite happen.
Mike spent the last day relaxing and animal watching.
Donny shot a nice water buck.
Roger decided to add one more animal to his list and shot a blesbuck.
This has been a really great trip with family, hunting with a great outfitter. We are already planning our next trip with Freddie. In the morning we start the long trip back to PA...
Goof looking horns on that bushbuck. Congrats
Glad you had a great adventure. thanks for taking us along. I had already poste here before I saw the Broadhead fail thread. Forrest
Man, that looks like a blast ! Thanks for taking the time to post the story.
which was the best eating ?
We have eaten some of everything that we have shot. I can't really pick a favorite, it is all very good, and it is prepared very well here. It's a shame meat can't be taken back to the US from here.
Thanks for keeping us updated!!!! Congrats
