I keep seeing 32-36" shoulder height for judging shooter bears. I DO NOT want anything less than 300lb. My brother got this on cam last year and I know he's huge, but he hasn't been back. I'm going to set up a measuring post this weekend, but I'd like true weight estimates based on shoulder height. Not interested in ears, head, neck, shoulder comparisons.

Thanks guys

Are you hunting in Michigan Steve ?? 300# is a really big bear.... You might have to pass a whole lot of bears in Michigan to get to a true on the scale 300 pounder..... but good luck !!! The first hunt starts Sunday !!!

Just picked up my 2016 Spring bear from taxi in process of building base / habitat. This one is 37" high at shoulder, way north of 400 lbs. Good luck on your hunt!

Depends on where you live, how cold it gets, how much food is around, corn crops. how far they have to travel for food and back to lay up. I live in Eastern N.C. and biologist say a boar bear can put on 180 LBS in 1 year after he is mature. Largest Black bear in the world. A 36" boar at the shoulders in Eastern N.C. should weigh over 400LBS. State record is 884LBS. Forrest

This bear was 60" in girth. It wasn't weighed but the manikin was sculpted from measurements of a 500# bear.Your bear in the barrel looks about 60" in girth,as well.I'd say 400 would be a conservative estimate.

Jim ..... my 1998 Alberta bear had a 60 inch girth too... we never got to weigh it but in Richard P. Smith's book he has a chart that roughly converts girth to weight... and 60 inch girth equates to 585 pounds live. My bear was a rifle kill.... and is in the Boone & Crockett all time at 21 and 2/16 ths.

Reason you're gonna get so many answers is bear are like people. Height of a shoulder is but one measurement. Girth, length, etc all come into play

If you see him and you are happy with him-shoot him...Enjoy your accomplishment. Any doubts-don't shoot
