Legal or no

I pulled up to the trailhead to a wilderness area here in Montana and there is signs that mean no camping. Read the info board and think they mean no camping at the trailhead. Tried calling ranger station but they had already closed for the day. Anyone know for sure one way or the other cause if they meant the whole wilderness area then I'm breaking the law right now. No camping is due to the drought up here.
