IdyllwildArcher Live hunt from CA 10/30
I can’t figure out where the live hunt thing is that gives you the orange button so I’m just making a normal thread.
Legal shooting light is at 636 AM PST. I’m sitting in the dark waiting.
I haven’t sat this stand in two years due to missing the season last year while in AK. It’s on a pinch point between bedding and feeding. I’ve shot 3 small bucks out of this stand and almost had shots on 2 big ones.
Good Luck, Ike !
Hope you get some activity Today.
Best of Luck, Jeff
It’s a bit early on the season for this stand as it depends on a doe dragging a buck through. Season closes one week from today and that weekend will be the best time to hunt here, but I got back from AK Yesterday and have been itching to hunt so here I am.
I have to take my kids to school at 8 so this hunt will be over shortly after 7:30
I forgot my rangefinder in the truck, but the trail they use is only 8 yards away and I’ve shot all 3 bucks at the same 8 yard location at my 9 o’clock.
Legal shooting light in 1 minute. Going to rattle.
Live hunt is right above the new topic line on your state page . Good luck and enjoy your hunt
Doe with 2 fawns, a spike, and a legal 3x3, probably 2.5 yr Old
Could have shot him but I will leave him for my daughter’s first deer hunt next weekend
The does we’re chasing each other. Got some cool video for the kids. Didn’t photo the buck. Was considering shooting him
I’ve got 30 minutes. Gonna rattle again
Rattling brought the does back
Have them at 3-5 yards. I love this stand because the ridge and Y shaped drainage takes my wind up. They’ve been on all sides of me without knowing I’m here
Get em Ike! Good luck pal!
Their tails are pretty black though. They’re the same size as black tails in body and antler too
Good acorn year. They’re hitting the ground every several seconds.
I can barely hear the woods over the noise of the jays. There’s 4 in the tree next to me
They moved on. I have about 10 minutes till I have to get down.
Time to get down. Good to know there’s a small buck in the area. My daughter’s first deer hunt will be next Saturday or Sunday and I’ll have the Double Bull on the corner of this ridge. Shes 13. She’s pretty good out to 20 yards, but I’ll have shots at 5-10 yards for her. Been looking forward to her hunt for several years now.
Be sure to share next weekend's hunt....
Yep, we'll wait for next weekend!
Why did the mule deer cross the road? To become a blacktail...
Thoroughly enjoyed that Ike! I've been so busy this season my hunting time has been severely limited - living through you brother. Good luck and enjoy the time in the field with your daughter!
Mind if I ask what zone are you hunting?
I used to live in CA, always hunted B-zone, unless I got drawn for application hunts (X7b). Always hunted bow season, but used it more for scouting for rifle opener. Had opportunities, but I was very green and never felt comfortable flinging an arrow. Much respect to those who blacktail hunt archery- its not easy patterning since we hunt them pre-rut.
Good hunt Ike! Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to hearing how your daughter does next weekend. Good luck!
Cool stuff Ike, appreciate the pics...good luck with the little one!
Pretty cool Ike! I grew up in the "real" northern CA like a hundred years ago...... rumor was more than a few drug across 97.........
Thanks for takin' us along. Can't wait for next week!
Good luck Ike with your daughter next weekend!
Good luck, can't wait to read about your daughter's hunt.
Bryan, we’re in D19 down in SoCal
Keep it coming! Good luck next time.
Reads like your having fun and getting some good scouting in for your daughters hunt.
Thanks for taking us along Idy
Good luck, Robb
Went to a different spot this AM and shot a forkie for my almost-empty freezer.
Way to go, Ike! You look sorta hungry in your photo...
Congrats! Story? Feed us too.;^)
Way to go Ike. Congrats. Ed F
Wow! That sure was fast! And I was thinking earlier in your thread that you were crazy for passing a legal buck on SoCal public land. Congrats. You must have some damn good spots.
Excellent! Thanks for sharing.
Hard earned SoCal buck in Manzanita right there! Congratulations.
I do have a few really good SoCal spots, but I hardly hunt here anymore. Last year I didn’t even hunt SoCal one day. I planned on hunting closing day in D19, but got weathered in on AK.
I’ve hunted about 300 days for deer in SoCal and seen precisely 3 mature bucks.
Not much of a story. I went into an area that’s near known bedding and sat a ledge. I rattled at legal shooting light and he came trotting in to 40 yds and stopped with no shot and horned a branch twice and walked away the way he came. When he got out of earshot, I rattled again and he came back and walked right past me. Shot at 8 paces.
Congrats Ike....he looks delicious.
Nice pics and neat to follow along, hope you daughter can bag the buck.
Very nice, Ike! Congratulations!
Congrats and good luck this weekend!!
Nothing wrong with Meat on the Table!! Congrats
Good luck, Robb
"I’ve hunted about 300 days for deer in SoCal and seen precisely 3 mature bucks. "
Now that sounds more typical.
Yes, congrats Ike! What's up next?
Weird seeing pictures of deer in a live hunt thread! Congratulations on a fine buck!!!
Now the question that I know the answer to - did you cook/eat the nethers?
