I can’t figure out where the live hunt thing is that gives you the orange button so I’m just making a normal thread.
Legal shooting light is at 636 AM PST. I’m sitting in the dark waiting.

I haven’t sat this stand in two years due to missing the season last year while in AK. It’s on a pinch point between bedding and feeding. I’ve shot 3 small bucks out of this stand and almost had shots on 2 big ones.

It’s a bit early on the season for this stand as it depends on a doe dragging a buck through. Season closes one week from today and that weekend will be the best time to hunt here, but I got back from AK Yesterday and have been itching to hunt so here I am.

I forgot my rangefinder in the truck, but the trail they use is only 8 yards away and I’ve shot all 3 bucks at the same 8 yard location at my 9 o’clock.

Have them at 3-5 yards. I love this stand because the ridge and Y shaped drainage takes my wind up. They’ve been on all sides of me without knowing I’m here

Time to get down. Good to know there’s a small buck in the area. My daughter’s first deer hunt will be next Saturday or Sunday and I’ll have the Double Bull on the corner of this ridge. Shes 13. She’s pretty good out to 20 yards, but I’ll have shots at 5-10 yards for her. Been looking forward to her hunt for several years now.

Mind if I ask what zone are you hunting?
I used to live in CA, always hunted B-zone, unless I got drawn for application hunts (X7b). Always hunted bow season, but used it more for scouting for rifle opener. Had opportunities, but I was very green and never felt comfortable flinging an arrow. Much respect to those who blacktail hunt archery- its not easy patterning since we hunt them pre-rut.

I do have a few really good SoCal spots, but I hardly hunt here anymore. Last year I didn’t even hunt SoCal one day. I planned on hunting closing day in D19, but got weathered in on AK.
I’ve hunted about 300 days for deer in SoCal and seen precisely 3 mature bucks.

Not much of a story. I went into an area that’s near known bedding and sat a ledge. I rattled at legal shooting light and he came trotting in to 40 yds and stopped with no shot and horned a branch twice and walked away the way he came. When he got out of earshot, I rattled again and he came back and walked right past me. Shot at 8 paces.
