Just breaking daylight. 28 degrees. Breezy, but not so much they won’t move. Hoping my 16 yr old son up the hill has a chance at one. Same trees as yesterday.

Just heard a loud grunt across a little draw to our east. Wind is swirling like crazy.

Had a buck chasing does down the hill. Never got a good look. Buck moved off, then for and two skippers fed 30 yds from me in brush. Just when doe was going to step out, wind swirled and they ran off.

Had a doe fawn come right below me. 4 yards. I drew, bent at waist, put pin on chest, shoot. Lower limb hits my leg and arrow goes 2’ right and hits deer very low and just in front of back leg. Ugh. I’m hoping I didn’t get into body cavity.
Right after that, little 6 point comes up hill and hangs around for a while.

4 pt and 5 pt chasing a doe and her fawn all around me. Crazy. They were posturing like they were going to fight.

5 point ran the doe to the west. 4 point looked mad so he started bossing around the button. They also headed west.

Fell walking back to truck and really twisted my ankle. Heard a loud pop and it really hurts. Ugh.

It’s a little tiny 5’ hill right where we come out of the woods. It’s aways slick, and I’ve slipped there before. Just rushing.

Home, icing ankle. Doesn’t hurt to put pressure on, just hurts all the time.

I was hoping I’d just shaved some hair off that deer, but there was guts on arrow. No blood, so we backed out. I shot her on the east edge of a thick bedding area, which she ran into. There is a road 200 yds west that is the western boundary of the thicket. If she crosses the road, I cannot go over there. Hopefully she will bed and be there in the morning. Hoping my ankle allows me to hunt in the AM then retrieve my deer.

I feel awful, but I couldn't risk hurting my ankle more by going to look for that deer, and there is no one I could ask to go look for me. I hate leaving her, but I also know nothing goes to waste in nature. I will go find her once I am able to go into the woods again, so I have closure. Going to try and get an orthopedic appt tomorrow so they can diagnose my ankle. I was supposed to be off this week, but I am going to work, then probably take off the week of Nov 27-Dec 1 or Dec 4-9. It's PA gun season, but I will be bowhunting.
