First off 2017 was by far the best year ever at TSI for record book qualifying bears. I would like to thank everyone who hunted at TSI and helped make 2017 such a great year.Without you TSI would not exist. Over the holiday season I’ll post some of the moments in time from this past year and much more.follow along and comment freely. Trophy Safaris New Brunswick
As is the case each year some worse than others spring start up.Or as I call it “FORD season”(fixing or repairing daily) 2017 was a normal spring as far as snow levels but seemed wet by times.lol
Always good to have strong backs and eager guides while hauling in start up bait.
One barrel full and 300 to go.
As is the norm here it rains a lot in spring and heavily too.being cold and wet is something no Guide looks forward to but it’s get er done or get behind.
Out on the remote rds often we are the first humans to travel them since the previous year.everyday you see somthing.here are some New Brunswick turkeys we see often.
You know it’s wet when you never get over 20 mpr or out of 4x4.Getting around in early spring is tough on man and machine.
It takes literally tons apon tons of bait to get started
Then there’s those spring days winter decides she isn’t done then everything slows down and the work gets harder.
Finally after weeks of preparations we started seeing bear movement and had no idea just how exciting the weeks ahead would get
2017 started giving hints of where we were going to set up for the big mature males when we were seeing as many as 5-7 huge males on baits at the same time in certain areas.
Eventually it started to warm up and th baits started warm up too so that’s when we really start putting in some long days pre hunt
Time for the first hunters came fast, always nervous with the first hunters as you really don’t have any actual feedback yet on the bears other than the subtle signs. Still cool in the evening bugs at least are no issue yet. And it didn’t take long before some really nice boars were taken. And hold on as it just kept getting better and better as you will see.
Being early spring there’s some mobile road hazards, eastern snappers love nesting on rd sides.
Targets being active in daylight always a good sign
They aren’t all monsters at TSI But is still nice tagging out on the first weeks hunt
Week two kept the momentum with lots of bear seen and taken
Soon it’s all hands on deck and the boars just continued getting bigger and bigger
Bit side tracked but to answer a question just posed yes we know were there are small pockets of colour phase a very very rare bear this Far East.
Now we’re starting to pile up some 18 plus inch bears who could have imagined what was next
Oops almost got out of order here is another nice boar.this bear was featured in an outdoor publication recently.
Then here comes a real giant! This bear is likely the highest scoring bow kill ever filmed in New Brunswick
This 500lb plus bear officially scores over 21 inches and is one of two 500 lb bow kills at our camp in 2017 both filmed and will be featured on the outdoor channel this coming summer
He was indeed an old warrior one of several huge old boars in 2017
This is a great picture showing two P&Y skulls with the smaller one showing just how big the other bear was.
Great year for you Dave, congrats to all the hunters and your efforts.
Cool thread Dave. Can't wait to get back up there in 5 months, gonna be hard to top my 21"+ from this year, but we'll try!
You would think a 21 inch bear would be a hard act to follow but they kept coming.
Marks 420lber had huge paws
And another huge skull to score
Then the trad guys got into the action with a mature 400lber
Mikes long bow kill was his first bear and a book bear to boot
also an older male as the teeth told us
I prefer to think of this thread as a preview of coming attractions for June 2018
Lol good point bou
When exhaustion sets in we start skinning where they lay.
And yet another monster for Jimmy with trad gear actually it’s the fourth big boar in a row all P&Y
Jimmys was another battle hardened old mature boar
Always hunt the sign
Gotta love it when a young bow hinter bags a big P&Y first time out
Getting these big boars out is a joint effort
Here is another young hunters first trophy, never get your first one again.

Congrats. You obviously know what you are doing!
Feeding them only the best
Jays big P&Y boar
Team meeting between recoveries
We were being watched
Brings back some great memories Dave! I’ve never hunted with a guide that hustles as much as you guys do
Guess I may be getting ahead of myself here I should mention that anyone wishing not to have their photo shown please PM me and I will remove it.I will refrain from posting anyone’s names.Thakyou and my apologies for not obtaining permission.D
Some 2017 P&Y skulls after bleaching.
Quite often I get some pictures that are well just plain funny
Taking turns in the barrel
This guy wanted a turn in the barrel but he won’t fit!
Some road repairs to one of our food plots for deer hunting. At TSI we also hunt Deer and limited moose
Some nice bulls we encountered while checking cameras at moose stands
Cameras help a lot when scouting a lot of area
In between I enjoy watching my son play baseball in Canada and in the US.the best game I know of!couldnt help myself just a proud dad.
The young guys aren't the only ones getting it done. Dad's 83 and his third straight big bear at TSI.
Great point indeed

Dave, we had a great time up there this year and he keeps asking if I'm taking him back again. Hes hooked! That was not only his first P&Y bear but his first bowkill ever!
I was very impressed at how calm he was given the amount of activity so close to him.Great bear
Feeding the bears is a never ending chore,I think I might be feeding them too well sometimes
Some big big survivors of 2017
Every hunters favourite scenario
And then there is the ones that didn’t get away.
Then the pros arrive to look over the bear situation
And they got lots of action last count 28-29 bears but they were waiting
And waiting but for good reason!
This one was a target but we never did get him but with sign of a monster around we urged them to pass everything under 400lbs and wait
Always encouraging to see
Awesome Year! Good luck in 2018!!
By this time we already have had a banner year and already have an official 21 plus inch monster on film and over 500lbs is it possible we could have two giants over 500lbs on the same show from the same year killed with bow??
Dayle Boyer the producer of bearmagnet tv and I had already decided that we were not going to shoot a bear unless it was a monster.
After filming a lot of bears and some huge ones I could sense they were starting to think I’m too fussy but then I get a picture of a snapshot and well yes it did just happen!
Wow it wasn’t the biggest one but he’s very nice.We still haven’t weighed it but I’m thinking it’s a wrap we have the show!
2017 just kept giving and as I’ve not seen all the footage myself I’m anticipating the show as much as anyone im told it’s going to be an off the hook show. As far as we know it’s never been done in NB history to kill two 500lbers on film and air them on the same show!As well one of them is likely the biggest ever shot on film with a bow in NB and will rank with the biggest alltime any weapon.Pretty exciting stuff for sure.

I can tell you really enjoy your Bear hunting Dave by your pictures. Good luck over the winter!!
Thanks Chris as you know you have to enjoy it or you would probably not do it eh
So now we wait for the airing this coming year and I encourage everyone to watch you will not be disappointed there’s a lot of action and well you will see.
And with that giant on film and in the freezer we could end 2017 right there and been a stellar year but there’s more
Yes there’s moose hunting but maybe also more giant black bear and yes some huge NB white tails keep following along I’ll keep posting.Theres a big TSI announcement coming at the conclusion of the thread.
2017 already a year to remember and nearing the end of the bear hunts we got a big boar tending and appears to be tending in daylight
Well he did and we had a hunter in position and yet another big boar went down 430 lb over 20 inch green but havnt got a final score yet.
Dave, I can't imagine the hard work it takes by your crew to get ready for the bear season. Well done by all. Some monster bears for sure. my best, Paul
Down to the last few hunters of 2017 at TSI it was time for moose hunting Getting camp situation looked after is only part of month long scouting and locating done prior to the hunt.
Not only was it 90 degrees the day before the hunt we had some fairly serious deep woods repairs to look after which involved efforts from several to over come.
Enjoying the cool of the evening on a sweltering hot day
The kill zone.we scouted this spot all summer and identified a dozen or so local bulls they all used the funnel to move from area to area. This spot ended up being a very good location for a close encounter.
I distract easily so getting pictures of endangered species is always on the docket
Endangered wood turtles
Little guy early in the hunt almost ran over the hunter when we waved him off, wish I had the video.
This one is a bit bigger but still not the one
Bow in hand and ready
Gotta love the bogs a place rarely touched by humans
TSI what’s the big announcement?
the year has to actually end before it can be fully reviewed so stay tuned..............
Final picture of 2017 a nice bow kill moose I’d post the video but don’t know how too.
Too bad the video is amazing. Great bull and hunt
