We gather in January every year and usually have 35 to 45 bowhunters and hunt bunnies and other small game. This hunt has turned into one of my favorites of the year as we get to see friends that we only see a couple times a year.

We have kept notes from every year of the hunt so we have a reading of the "past hunts" that is up to over 20 pages. It is not a PG-13 recap!

Marty and I blood trailed this one for almost 300 yards and had to rip apart a brush pile in order to recover him. What we will not do for a bunny!

We connected on 85 cottontails on a day when temps were just above zero. After cleaning all of them we had a bighead fry and then on to our draw for your partner dart tournament.

Wow! That looks like a great time for all (except the bunnies)

So neat that gatherings like this are still a part of our culture. Thanks for posting. C

Who would think that a guy could have that much fun freezing your ass off, crawling through cedar trees and chasing bunnies! Can't wait for next year!

I can only imagine the fun that went on at this hunt. What it is all about. Hunt

It is crazy the amount of fun we have! A few places that we hunt were small little new tree groves 20 years ago, now we can hardly walk/crawl thru them they have grown up so much. We also had to keep an eye on our group of kids, as they were pretty small also. Now, a lot of them are married and have kids of their own! It is fun to get to shoot your bow more than once in a day also, targets are usually plentiful, and the shooting is challenging! There is no off season!

Looks like an absolute blast, Beav!

They say that the rabbit population cycles over a multi year period. You guys have been at this for 20 years. In your record keeping, or from your physical observations, have you seen that as being true?

Looks like a very good time. Doesn't look like there much drinking going on! :)

We use to do this in Cheyenne at our club but once I left they stopped doing it.

From: Marty

For sure, some places are covered up for a few years, then almost nothing there the next. It also doesn't seem to matter how many rabbits we get there. One year we might see a lot at a certain place but barely get any and the next year there are hardly any there. Then at another place we might only see a couple and kill them but be overloaded the next year! Kevin

Man I wish we had bunny numbers like that here in Missouri! I would darn near give up deer hunting to be able to hunt the rabbit numbers I did as a kid. Love hunting them and love eating them even more! Looks like you guys had a great time.
