Back in the 90's did a sheep count in AZ, while we did not have a sheep strike, did have a near encounter with a turkey vulture.
I am betting the elk did not jump into the blade, I am betting that he was doing a quick stop, where the nose is raised and tail drops. Elk just happens to be under the tail rotor when he does that.
