Shiloh New Stand Cam Pics
Ok, a new stand location we are calling "Double Bull" is setup and ready to go. I placed a trail cam there a few hours ago and will post pics when I get some.
Double Bull Blind
Double Bull Blind
Here is location for those that want to know.
Oh Boy!! Looks like INbowdude needs to add another location for the Stand Slam.
So would that stand be on the southern property line, SW of 4, and SE of 2?
There was a ground blind there, I guess now it's a Double Bull?
When I was there, It had just been set up. A feeder and two blinds. It should be a great spot. I wish I was setting in it right now.
Buffalo1, you are correct on location. Just set it up for Pork 12 but may keep to going inn winter and spring months. Lots of piggies!
Pork guys...some hogs for ya!
Hey Matt could you please leave that stand up until after my son and I leave in May ? LOL
Ok, I'll see what I can Do! Actually, if I had cell cams at all 9 stands they would have similar numbers of pigs...just can't afford it! :-/
Can't ask for more than that !!! See ya in May... Keep the pics coming..Mike
Check out the evening pic!
That looks great! I would sure like to do this trip someday.
BullHunter, just do it! :-)
That stand was clearly just placed for me this summer hahaha
Morning before Pork 12 begins
Someone sure needs to set at Double Bull.
Big bunch of good hogs in right now.
Now that's a herd of Hogs!
That's a lot of pork chops.Almost too many to choose from..LOL
It don't get better than this!
Hey Matt ,the only thing that would make it better would be for my son and I to be in that stand right now !!! Keep 'em coming.. See ya in May.. Mike
Mike, looking forward to meeting you and your son! More pics for you!
Hey, we didn't make it in time!
Hey, we didn't make it in time!
My son has his sights set on that black and white one that missed the dinner bell.....
I'll be there in a little over 2 weeks. That black and white one won't make 3 weeks if it gives me a broadside. Weak man syndrome, got it from Inbowdude. No cure.
Hey ' bad karma', I broke the news to my 11 year old son about the black and white pig. He was wondering if you wanted to come over and kick his puppy next. Lol. Good luck guys on your hunt ! Wanna see some pics ! Mike
All kinds of nice hogs down there, even bigger and more knarly than that black and white one. We have taken three different boys down to Shiloh when they were I believe 12 years old. All of them had success on hogs using low poundage compounds (40#-45#) with cut on contact heads (Magnus Stingers). Arrow placement is critical. Ground blinds seem to have a bit of an edge on the elevated stands. Helps contain your scent and hide movement. I don't like ground blinds...but they work. Listen to Matt and Cheryl and hunt the stands they recommend. Good luck to both you and your boy.
Thanks BowhuntKS.. I got him shooting a few days a week and some days are better than others. I don't hunt a lot out of ground blinds but they do have their advantages like you stated.. He's shooting just around 38lbs now and I think he could up the poundage w/o any problem.. Would like to get at least to 45 lbs before we get there. Have a feeling that the first pig that shows up regardless of color or size is gonna end up in the cooler ! LOL.. Always enjoy these posts . Thank you
I had to retrain my brain for arrow placement on hogs vs deer. The best target I found was the Master Hog target (laminated paper target) carried by Lancaster archery. The vitals on the target may be a little farther forward than actual but it really helps keep you tight in the pocket. I have lost a couple hogs that would have been double lung shots on deer, but were gut shots on a hog. When the hogs come in to the corn let them settle down a bit and wait for a broadside shot. Hogs seem to be constantly moving, fighting, just plain jittery, when they first come in.
Lots of good advice on here on shot placement. With kids I have taken both my daughter and son with crossbow to shiloh, the nice thing is you are going to target rich environment. Teaching patience will be the key factor they move around a lot and you want to make sure you get a good broadside shot (and there aren't hogs behind them) and like mentioned by others hogs vitals are lower and more forward than whitetails. I learned the hard way at shiloh first couple I shot I thought perfect double lung, never found pigs. Have shot several where Arrow is maybe two inches from belly in the pocket of leg and die within in sight. When hit right they don't go far. Listen to Matt and Cheryl they will stir you in right direction. No matter what a day at shiloh is pretty much 10x better than any day at work!!!
My hog from a couple weeks ago down at Shiloh. This one made it about 40 yds after the shot. Spitfire Maxx Trophy Tip 1 3/4 cut
Thanks for all the great info !! My son shot a big boar 2 years ago w his crossbow but wants to challenge himself and stick to tryng his Bear Cruzer compound bow that we got him for Christmas ..I'll give him credit for that ! Looking at all the pigs and how fast they bounce around should make it interesting .Picked up some paper targets from Birchwood Casey that show the "sweet" spot for boar. Just gotta square away his arrow selection and we are good to go. Got some Gold Tip Ted Nugent 500 spine that he's been launching and Slick Trick 1" Fixed blades .
Hey folks...already have tons of wild hogs but I just got another 30 trapped wild hogs. Come get em!
8 guys tomorrow to Sunday should have some fun with these guys
Need those 30 after we took a few out during the Porkapalooza.
Hammer, tell you what. I'll let the black and white one go if he comes within bow range. If he makes it to your trip, I hope your son whacks him. I'll find 2 or 3 others that'll be fine to shoot.
Very nice of you' bad karma' . He's all yours if you get the shot please !! Thank you, but I have a feeling that the first pig that stands still for my son is gonna get a Gold Tip launched at it !!! Looks like there are lots of pigs running around. Good luck to you.
No, there are a couple hundred hogs there. I'll leave that one alone, should it come by. Can't promise the other boys will, though.
Hunter is in the blind. Before...
"Dont even think about it, runt!"
If that one gives me a broadside, i'm shooting. I don't care whose kids are unhappy.
Pigs? We'll be there in 8 days, hunting in 9. I sure hope you haven't run out of hogs now. :)
bad karma, keep us posted while you're there. Travel safe and have fun
My problem is the moment I get the idea there are pigs around, the cell phone gets shut down......my priorities are all about putting pork on the ground, and so, I'm a day late on most of this stuff. I'm a crappy live hunt guy.
That's a bunch of bacon Matt. Bad karma, I guess we will settle for next day posts.
And then the 40 mph winds blew them all away
Now that's funny, but can be so true.
Mornings are slow, but a few stayed out past bedtime
Well, apparently no one set here this evening
Dang, I'm just gonna have to come down there and sit at the new stand.
Come on mike...Just got 30 more today!
And I'll be hunting them on Monday....yahoo!!!
Man, these pictures sure make me think about trying to see if I can work it out to bring a couple of grandson during the summer.
54 days to go.. but who's counting ? Good luck bad karma !!! Let's see some pics..
June cannot come fast enough.....
Morning crew. Some big boys too.
51 days to go...looks like there is enough morning action worth setting the alarm clock for ! Happy Easter to you and yours..Mike
Mike, yes, definitely worth going out in the morning. You can't kill one looking at the back of your eyelids! ;-) Matt
We've had good morning activity last several trips down to Shiloh. Used to think it was just going through the motions hunting mornings, but not anymore. Two out of three hunters sitting stands killed pigs our last morning this year.
I got my first one on the Porkapalooza in the morning. We had a couple of guy get theirs in the am as well.
Dang, I see some really great hogs in there.
Morning crew. Rain has let up finally.
looks like someone should be setting at that stand.
Wind wasn't right until this eveninh
Looks like there is still some shooters on the place.
There are plenty of big hogs there, Fox. The group of sixty that I chased had a bunch in them. We saw two bedded in an unusual spot that were are big or bigger than my pig, and quite a few others. Lots of pigs, but there were at least two groups of sixty or better. Try beating 60 noses, and 120 eyes to get a shot.
Next time I head out there, I think I'll have an opportunity to whack a hog in his bed that will be a complete surprise to him. And a bear for me to get out of the woods......good thing Country is there to help.
Yep, we always have great hogs at Shiloh!
Trust me on this one. We left you a lot of big hogs......the numbers are there.
I'm sure there is plenty of pork on the place, there always has been every time we have been there. We are booked again for next Feb. I have 2 grandsons, I might take during the heat of the summer if everything works out.
i have been to shiloh twice. Tons of hogs each time not counting the exotics
