To prepare for a 2018 moose hunt and future elk hunts I wanted a target to give me realistic life size practice. I spit my coffee out when I saw the $1300 price tag for a 3d elk target! Then I figured I needed to do some research. I found a YouTube vid for diy elk target and ran with it.
Looking forward to hearing the screeching brakes when the neighbors drive by and see this out back!

9ft nose to tail and 5 ft at the shoulder.

Made it with 3/8" exterior plywood. I'm going to mount a target to backside after painting it the same color. Figured that will help with making sure I pick a spot.

You should have a lot of fun practicing with that Bull.

I like the premise of these targets. Very ingenious. I believe if I made one I would cut out a large square and insert a large block target into the vitals and paint it the same color as the body.

Very nice. I am going to search YouTube to find the video and build one.
Thanks Gil

Nice target! Only problem is you can't shoot him because of that broken main beam and the fact that he "needs another year" :)

I made something similar only of a bear. So far no one has hit the plywood. Shoot at your own risk.

That looks great! I made an elk as well as a bear, but never painted them. Having something life-sized to fling arrows at makes a big difference.

Here's mine. Sit mine on plastic pipe around t posts and strapped to the t posts so it's removable for weather.
