3:54 PM LIVE from Ok*
It’s the 12th annual Porkapalooza at Shiloh Ranch! I’m currently in the ladder at stand 4. We have hunters at 1,2,3,4,6,7, Rattlesnake Ridge and the double bull blind on the south fence. Temps are in the 50’s with a NW wind. Feeders go off at 7am and 4 pm. Hoping Hunt4life scores at the double bull.

I saw a few hogs walking in plus a big black hog along the creek. Hopefully everything gets up and moves tonight. Chased an armadillo in camp.

Well, long story short, I hit a hog too low and lost blood after 50 yards. I will go back in the morning to look. Temps will be mid 30’s tonight so there is some hope. On the plus side, 3 hogs took the big dirt-nap tonight. Jay, Austen and Jeff connected.

Back at the same stand this morning. Feeder goes off at 7. Woods starting to wake up. Full moon. Didn’t need the flashlight walking out last night or in this morning. Hoping to find or see the hog from last night.

Sun is just peaking out over the horizon. One turkey gobble in the distance. Wake up hogs!

Breakfast is served! I know the feeder is going to go off. I’m looking at the darn thing, and still when it runs, I jump. Geez.

Jay scored from the stand at Rattlesnake Ridge. Despite a great shot, this hog didn't lose a drop of blood until three feet from where it fell. Kai was thrilled to get to come help find this one! Congratulations on a great first night out. Hopefully the one MIA will make an appearance at a feeder again!

Don’t know why I lost a couple of posts. 2 hogs came in from the south. Black and a calico. Black hogs runs in and out. Gives me the time to slowly stand up. Drew down and waited for the broadside shot. Shot too high and spined the hog. Dropped on the spot. Follow up shot for a quick kill. Score 1 for getting up early.

White (not albino) hog comes in but offers no shot. Facing me head on and grunting. Stays for a minute then bugs out. Deer move in. C’mon pigs. This is the Porkapalooza and they are the featured guests. Little doe 20 yards away and clueless to my location.

Oreo makes a bad move and it’s feet up at the top of the hill. Why do they go broadside and tempt me so? About 70 pounds of deliciousness. Thank you Shiloh! Turns out to be 83 pounds. Hard to judge the size sometimes.

Congrats guys looks like fun. Glad you slayed some bacon.

Honest question..... why are all the pictures taken with the hunter standing 4 feet behind the hogs and the photographer on the ground? Is it to make them look larger than they are? For example we only get to see the true size of the hogs in the skinning photos. I notice this in almost every Shiloh photo. No doubt they shoot some nice hogs and it seems like a great place to kill some hogs so why the need to straight arm them all? Some of these hogs look 500+ pounds. Let's see the hunters standing next to the hog. It's not hard since they're hanging.

Quinn, we had a professional photographer give us some tips so I've been taking all the the pics using his suggestions. Here is an example why. Both of these pics are of the same hunter with the same hog, standing in the same location ( not on the Porkapalooza btw). Nothing changed between the pics other than how much I zoomed in on the subject. My goal is to provide our guests with the best quality photo of their trophy. If you were the hunter, which of these two pics would you want in a frame on your desk?

Cheryl made the mistake of mentioning that we had to be frugal with the firewood in camp so we decided to have a little fun. We waited until Cheryl and Matt left camp and then removed all the firewood except for 1 stick.

When the evening hunt was done, I asked Cheryl if we could have a fire that night and she looked at the stack with it's one log and said, you can't you burned all the wood for lunch! We all had a good laugh about that and replaced the stack the next morning.
