Should you mount a wild boar?? I’m going on an exotic hunt in a few weeks and I’m going after Russian boar. Who all has one mounted?
I would say it depends on the size cutters. If good cutters, I would consider a euro mount.
I’ve thought about that! I think a shoulder mount would be pretty interesting.
My son has a couple glaring out from his wall. They have big toofs. Look like they're in agony though. I guess they were when he ran that Muzzy through 'em.....
I mounted this one for a buddy... pretty cool mount. Ed F
Since most taxidermist don’t use the real skull Just hide put in realistic jaw sets
So you can get a shoulder mount and the skull euro
I have a couple mounted, they definitely are attention getters.
What huntcell said. I have 2 that are mounted and also have the euros. People definitely notice them. I would not suggest hanging them in the bedroom.
I've 4 of em. They are definitely conversation starters.
Let's see a few of them please!
I would definitely mount one if it were a gorgeous looking hair color or mixture. That one you did Ed is awesome.
Strangely , I think that Pigs are some of the coolest mounts. I would love to kill a nice African Bush Pig to go with my Warthog and Javelina.
Warthog was done by Barry Smith in Colorado.
Bud Weller is completing my Javi down in Tucson- looks just like this but Right Turn.
Hell yes!! Why not...? If you're hunting on public land, and not baiting, hogs can be more difficult to kill than most big game. Kill a big ol' gnarly boar with nice cutters and beastly looks and it will add considerable character to any trophy room!
I know INbowdude has some great hog mounts and hunt4life as well has one that turned out great. Most of the time they don't use the original cutters as they are pretty fragile so the hide quality and coloration is the biggest factor. Well that and the wife is understanding about a hog on the wall. My wife cut off the idea of a hog early on so I don't have to worry about that. LOL
It's a must have in any man cave !!! Always a fun and challenging hunt. Guess they don't rank up there with a mountain lion that was shot out of a tree or Zebra shot over a watering hole....Not sure why Bou'bound would say that ...Whatever
I seem to remember a thread here a while back with someone having a boar mounted like it just busted through the wall. Anyone remember that or can find it??
Here's a pic of the at hog Millie (Lady Bowhunter) took several years ago hunting in Quighi TX.
Cool looking mounts...Big boars are sure ugly, but in a beautiful kind of way.
I'd entertain the idea of a mount at the right price. What did you fellas pay? If I may ask. I'm going on a hog hunt this summer and have entertained the idea. Just have no idea on the cost.
Wow look at those tusks! Non typical?
Glad I have mine true Russian boar are hard to come by these days
That’s the only mount my wife balks at me getting mounted. I’d probably just do a Euro if I ever killed a biggun anyway.
My Euro mount of my true Russian Boar.
No trophy room is complete without one. Having a animal that has the ability to do you harm is always a more interesting mount.
And javelina. I think you should have your Russian full body mount. :)
I'm a big fan of taxidermy because it brings back the memories of the hunt. Individual decision but I do like mine. Best of luck.
Boar hogs are one of the coolest mounts period!
Clarkrange in late 90s with Ken Moody.
Boars make great mounts, although I regret the unnatural open mouth look I have in a couple.
I love hog mounts. Have a couple myself.
My wife thinks they are really ugly but when anyone new comes over she always has to show the boar mounts to them usually with a comment like" They look really disgusting but they make a delicious meal"
Already at the taxidermy!! He’s a beauty.
So what are your thoughts on fake tusk in a mount? My taxi said she recommended fake tusk because the real ones will crack over time. She is going to do a skull mount also.
Personal preference, Alabowma. I would prefer not to. Just like I wouldn't fix broken tines on a buck.
If you do, nobody is going to look down on you if you did.
The real tusk will be brittle and crack over time for sure. I have heard of guys cleaning them out as much as possible and filling full of silicone or something on inside to help prevent that. On the euro mount you have to watch them as there is lots of grease in the skulls. Had a skull start getting greasy after a while of having it.
Nice pig! Congratulations!
Most every pig mount has that open mouth thing going on. I have a buddy that mounted a monster pig that he shot with me with a closed mouth and just the tusks sticking out and I really like that mount.
You absolutely will want to do the plastic mouth insert on that mount - open or closed. Much better results and will hold up far better over time. Also cool to have the skull separate to be able to look at.
If your taxidermist does many skulls, I am sure she will know how to deal with the grease in the skull. Pigs and bears are the worst for being greasy. If you are doing it yourself, you will want to look up how to do it.
Go with the re-pros on the tusks. If she knows what she's doing she can form a simple silicone mold off yours and they will be identical and will last forever. Also allows you to keep your skull intact. Only mount it if you killed it with a bow though... ;^)
I like to have the real skull done with beetles and have the real tusks on the skull. The mounts I go with the artificial, especially open-mouth style.
I would agree that the closed mouth is the way to go showing the tusks. I chose not to do that on a Javi for some reason.
I am getting him mounted open mouth, just because I think my wife will love it ;).....my taxi recommend we do it like that....maybe because she charges extra for it!!!
True Russians make great mounts. Ever boar hunter should have at least one.
Finally got around to taking pics of the hog mounts.
Left Collared Peccary from Texas with Rob Keebler. Center Wild boar from Oklahoma with Shiloh Ranch. Right White-lipped Peccary from Argentina.
Warthog taken with a longbow and cedar arrow from South Africa. Big boar from Oklahoma and Shiloh Ranch.
INbowdude, someone did a nice job on your wood duck, very nice!
INbowdude those are some good looking shoulder and Euro mounts. Very nice collection of swine/peccary species.
Mulehorn, that Woodie was part of a triple I killed in the late 70's or 80's. First mount I ever had. Thanks. Tradman and Huntress, I am a weak man and hogaholic. Couldn't post the 50+ hogs I have taken at Shiloh but they are special to me. Thanks my friend.
Hey Silverado! Where did you bag that beast?
Honestly it was quite a few years back, (close to 15) I can’t remember the name of the outfitter I went with. If memory serves me right he weighed 320lbs.
Where’s the mount!! Keep them coming!
