I started a thread the other day about boar mounts. Do any of you all have any interesting black buck mounts? I’m considering one of these on my exotic hunt next week along with the boar. Would you go after one if this was your first exotic hunt?

Sorry, no pictures of a mount but here is a good one down on my folk's place in Texas. They are a lot of fun to play with, but do tend to jump string if you shoot them looking at you. Spot and stalk can be a lot of fun, but expect to have moving shots. Most of the time when someone shoots one with a bow spot and stalk, it is not a great hit as they will move between your shot and the impact so expect that. They can also be hunted over poop piles or they will come in to feed.

PS - the meat is usually really good. Sometimes a little tough if they have been run a lot or are not getting enough to eat but very mild. Not much of it, though.

Z....

What do you look for in a nice buck? Is it the length of the horns, width or diameter?

all the above , I like the old Black ones , big mass the older ones horns are usually broomed of and may not be as long , but they are cool , you will see younger tan ones with longer horns but I dont like the mount as much

Are there different color phases, or is color somewhat an indicator of age? They are a cool looking animal for sure, plus they seem to have quite the attitude!

Color seems to be an indication of both age and dominance. The darker ones are more dominant.
