A year or two ago I bought some Wilderness Athlete Hydrate and Recover in the Lemon Lime flavor. I got that flavor because it was on sale. It doesn't taste that good, but I can drink it. Of all the other flavors, what's your favorite?

I think I have the berry blast. It’s good enough. I don’t buy it to sip and enjoy. I mix it up and slammer down.

Every time I hear about wilderness energy drinks I think of the dude popping energy powder like a 70s porn star, then pushing the sos button because he got dehydrated (thirsty).

I’ve tried the the little gel packs, I forget who makes them. They put me over the hump when I start getting hungry but don’t want to stop and dig in my pack for food.

Emergen-C, because the ingredients are virtually the same as WA at about 1/4 the price.

Lou, I haven't seen any cool emergen-c hats though.

This seems to be the latest big thing in the hunting industry, even the whitetail guys who drive their UTV to their shooting house are hawking some sort of miracle kool aid

Honey Stinger makes some really good energy gel pouches, Dryder. And their honey waffles one of the greatest mountain snacks known to man.

I like Berry Blast Hydrate and Recover mixed with Cherry/Lime Energy and Focus. I drink it everyday. Buy some "Berry Blast" and mix it with your Lemon Lime. I was not a fan of the plain Lemon Lime either. Though not a "miracle Kool-Aid", the stuff works.

Dyjack, I just looked them up. They were the GU packs. I haven’t tried the stinger gel. Anybody have an opinion between the 2?

Mango Bango Energy & Focus mixed with Berry Blast Hydrate & and Recover. Every day and sometimes twice a day. I never get sick I work with the public 6 days a week. Wilderness Athlete has a new pineapple flavored Energy and Focus that they just released.

20-Apr-18
I like the berry flavored Hydrate and Recover but I can't drink the Energy and Focus because it makes my heart want to jump out of my chest and I can't sleep at night even if I drink it first thing in the morning. I'm very sensitive to stimulants...

Cytomax.... fruit punch is the flavor.... I think

Couple completely different issues being discussed here. Question asked is FAVORITE WILDERNESS ATHLETE DRINK. Gel packs, waffles and other calorie replacement items are not the issue.

I regularly drink the original WA Superman with Energy and Focus in Mango Bango flavor mixed with Hydrate and Recover in Berry Blast flavor. I like the flavor, low calorie, and low sugar content.

From old comments by Jaquomo, I compared the nutritional info with Emergen-C and while I find many of the same names of some ingredients, the quantities are totally different. The WA product contains BCAA's (branched chain amino acids) and other ingredients not found in Emergen-C. I don't claim to know the correct dosage of these ingredients. Compare for yourself and make your own decision .

Never had one. My favorite drink on a wilderness hunt is diet Mountain Dew but it's heavy so only bring one. :^)

If you believe something works for you, and works better, by all means use it. I've tried a bunch of different WA products and couldn't tell any difference between similar off-the-shelf products that are less expensive but not specialty marketed to a niche user group.. Power Bar gels vs. WA is another one.

From: Jaquomo
20-Apr-18
Not saying WA isn't great stuff. I was in big business product marketing for 25 years. We spent many days sitting in conference rooms figuring out how to spin our products to differentiate them, refine terminology, and convince end users that they were "better", when in fact the end result was very similar.

But if someone believes it's better, it's better. I structured nine-figure deals based on that simple premise.

Ascend is really good and has helped me completely quit Monster Ultras haha. As far as WA I like Mango Bango and am a big fan of their Lean Life when trying to shed some lbs.

Hands down - Barry Blast. I believe the recommended amount/ounces of water makes the drink too sweet so I add a little less and my tub goes further. At the end of the day you want to stay hydrated and if this helps then use it.

IMO, nothing is more refreshing during/after hard work/exercise than ice cold water. cold beer is an acceptable substitute, when the work is done:).

If ya' need a little flavor from the packets, to stay hydrated, more power to you.

Water, and orange flavor Gator Aide. I drank a lot of Cytomax in the 90's when I was cycling a lot. I'll have to try it again.

If this same kool-aid was being marketed as "Soccer Boost" or "Super Golf Magic" would the wilderness athletes even be discussing it?

Think he asked what was peoples favorite wilderness athlete flavor. Not if there are alternatives or if you just prefer plain water. Lol

I like water too but after long hikes and hunts and my electrolytes being diminished I need electrolytes. I don’t use wilderness athlete thou

This is Bowsite. We can't be bothered answering the original topic when we have so many valuable opinions and sarcastic comments to share.

21-Apr-18
An answer of "no" or "none of the above," is a perfectly legitimate answer. And pointing out sarcasm with sarcasm is the pot calling the kettle black, is it not?

I have been drinking hydrate recover lime and energy focus cherry limeade for years mixed together.. in fact each morning before the gym, I have a nalgene full, I like the BCAA's prior to working out.. during hunting season, usually do the same each morning to start the day and sometimes mid day.. but do what works for you.. that's what works for me

I’ve always found water with a wedge of lemon, lime or orange to be more than sufficient. For me at least, all the others make me feel like I OD’ed on caffeine.

Give ON AmiNO Energy a try. Similar ingredients and nearly half the cost. I use it as a pre-run drink on the days I'm feeling a bit lethargic.

Hydracharge by Kaged Muscle. Good flavors and gets the job done. Gets me through my cardio all the time, 1 hour on the treadmill, incline at 15, at 4mph. No cramping, less fatigue and no dehydration issues.

RickE Interesting article. Strongly agree with the hit on sugar. Loved Red Bull for a time but haven't had one (never had a rock star etc) in years.

Hard to sort through all the marketing for the multiple additives and then even more complicated to try to understand what dosage of each is appropriate.

I use the WA products that I do to get me to drink more water and for the caffeine boost. Sometimes in life you just choose to "Drink the Kool aid".

OK, point taken Glunt et al. I've never heard of this "W A" stuff, in my mind water and hot tea are acceptable "wilderness athlete" drinks. As for electrolyte replacement, I have tablets for that.

whiskey and a coke usually pumps me up. Sometimes I even have it before hockey games. Always play a great game after. And like any hockey player, a guy needs his rituals ;)
