got back home yesterday late and thought id give a lil report about hunt like i yearly do... Ive been with some of the best outfitters in bear hunting from Montana to northern Canada and ill have to say my time with Lloyd and Rhonda Gates was AT trophy hunters outfitters was at the very top in all regards! My 11 year old son came along and for his first experience i couldn't have asked for a better time! Didn't harvest this year, but it wasn't due to Llyods lack of outfitting! the big big big bear were there, the camera's was showing them daily, just after legal shooting time...wind was a issue all week swirling and not being consistent, but that's hunting. over all excellent time! the size the bear on cameras and on every bait i was on, along with other hunter (which passed several, looking for as he stated a 600pder!) was absolutely impressive! Next year...God Willing!
First bear taken with single string.
First bear taken with single string.
Five guys, ten tags, eight dead bears. Last two tags held out for monsters. No bait, just put on miles and try to find ones that stand their ground till you get close enough. The eighth bear belongs to a Bowsiter and I’ll let him post it if he wants.

Dave Clark, PA 18 11/16” green score. Wanted a medium size color phase for showroom in his newly built taxidermy shop. This one showed up first day of hunt. He is now our official skinner and joe boy. A couple days ago he crawled into an abandoned beaver lodge to check it out and found a bear snoozing in there. Came out a helluva lot faster than he did going in. Bear refused to come out with people jumping on the lodge and hurling insults at it. Spring shenanigans gotta love it.

Thank you Scoot. She has been practicing for two years to get to the 40lb minimum. Her second bear died 40 feet up in a tree and did not fall. The guide had to climb the tree and push it down.

Ok so I ended up being a partial liar on this thread! Sorry! I made the comment way back that I was going to be skipping baiting for bears this year as I was just too busy with kids and little league and our kids hunting camp. Well crazy story but had a kid from my kids hunting camp call me and said he had an issue with his "Senior Project". He was doing his project on training hound dogs and was going to take one of his teachers. The teacher cancelled at the last minute and he was calling to ask if I'd be willing to go with them. I did and it worked out well. Good Idaho bear just over 19 4/8" green score. Should be a good P&Y after drying. I'm pretty happy, but this kids senior project just cost me about $2,000 in taxidermy bills.....LOL! The last pic I will post is of a surprise we found lodged in his spine when we were boning out the backstraps. Someone from years past is talking about the bigun that got away! ;-)
Wyoming spot and stalk. May 10th.
4th bear in 5 years with TSI and Dave Cole
Quebec... 225/250 # sow Shot her thinking it was the boar that was breeding the sow that was feeding in front of me....She walked in at last light.
It was an odd year in Quebec this year I didn’t have one giant on any of the baits( first time in 9 years) and not many bears around...I feel fortunate to take this one...also she was 1/4” off 18” for a sow in Quebec that’s pretty big
Nice big sow shug! They can be deceiving
Idaho public land DIY.......Deerslayer and I set this bait 3 years ago and the thermals have been frustrating.......Huntman let me sit one of his baits and I saw another good one like this and was re-motivated ......we talked about going all out on scent control and it payed off!
Good guys with a wealth of information and experience on this site, woohoo!
Great job Mike. I know you earned it. Glad to see that bait pay off! We get lucky once in a while eh?
139 and counting

Grats boys! Some great bears this weekend!

May 29, 2018
Wasn't sure if I could hunt this spring - was hospitalized for a serious septic infection, surgery, and pneumonia all at the same time in April.
Barely recovered enough to limp into the bush to fix up a brush blind etc., hunt, then drag this guy out basically on one leg along with a much lessened cardio.
This is the only viewable picture I managed to take with a tripod before the adapter broke. I didn't have my reading glasses so I didn't know what the picture really looked like until I got home (I was lucky it turned out).
I hope I post this properly.
Congrats Ken and best wishes for a full recovery!

The most important bear of my life! Shot by her with a crossbow and finished off by her at 5 yards on the ground with a 45-70!
So Mike was she charging the bear to within 5 yards to finish him off or was he charging her within 5 yards to finish her
We tracked it down and it was still very much alive. I was very nervous while Brooke got it done at a mere 5 paces, very exciting.
Last minute double up here in Alaska.
That a tight spot on a Black widow? Blasphemy! Attaboy Nick
Congrats again Nick! You should get a free moose tag this fall for all the calves you've saved this spring!!
Smith getting his pack ready
Smith getting his pack ready
Smitty killed this boar in ID. Best bear we've connected on yet. Really proud of him. Its so cool to watch your kids react and make a shot when a bear is 15 yards away. Rattles me every time.
Been at it for 5 weeks now and only killed one so far. We still have this weekend left so hopefully we can post up a couple more soon. Good luck to everyone still at it.
Won't let me edit the second and third pic so I can't rotate them. I click on "image tools" icon but it only lets me work on the first pic? Anyone able to help?
Nice work "SBH"...........hunting public land in Idaho with other people running baits and driving the roads is very challenging. Your hard work paid off and it's nothing short of hard work and patience!
My boys are just starting to show interest in hunting bear but I do get them to come out and haul and move baits........I had this 55 gallon drum customized with a detachable axle and bicycle tires to make it easier to move.
155..........I know we have more out there to register before the fall season starts.
Thanks Mike. Its a lot of work for sure, especially with the drive we have coming over. But man, I'm already looking forward to next season. Just love it. Always enjoy seeing the HUNTMAN each spring and learning more about this stuff! Met some good guys up there this year and looking forward to seeing them again and working some baits together in the future. Its all about the people, the kids especially, the baiting process....oh and getting a bear dead every now and then is pretty cool. On to elk. 60 days boys!!
Yes I am well aware there is a Ruger American in 6.5 Creedmoor in the pic. Bou usually allows gun pics so here goes. That Rifle was given to this young man from Ruger. He was a part of our "Hunting Dreams" program here in Idaho that does hunts for kids with a life threatening illness. He was dreaming of harvesting his 1st bear and on the last night of the hunt and season he was able to connect using his FREE to him (Ruger Rifle, Leupold Binos, Leupold Rangefinder, Cabela's Meindl boots and then placed in his new Cordova Cooler XL. All presented to him by "Hunting Dreams" Good job kiddo!
While hunting with Corey at Chase Outfitters in New Brunswick during late June this year both my daughter and I were successful with each of us connecting on a P&Y mature boar. My daughter once again killed her bear from a ground blind, only difference was the shorter distance. This year she shot him at ~15 feet while I sat next to her watching it all unfold. What another amazing experience! Hers green scored in the high 19” range with mine in the mid 19”.
And a picture of my daughter’s bear
Mt Man, the smile on that young hunter's face says it all. Congrats to the hunter and to Hunting Dreams for making the young man's dream a reality.
Lady Bowhunter took her bear last Tuesday (6/26) while hunting with TSI. This boar is her biggest (weight and head) she's taken in the 15 years she's bear hunted.
Special thanks to Dave Cole and Tom for their hard work during our time in camp.
Here's a condensed pic of a condensed season. With snow almost in the woods till end of May....we had a short season. NO mention of outfit name....not looking for free advertising etc....but 16 bears in 4 weeks for 16 hunters is a def successful season. couple bruisers along the way too. Happy hunting.
Thanks Bea. That helps the old total!!!

My wife’s first ever big game animal. Took it with a crossbow on the ground at 12 yards. Crossbow super easy to shoot, but loud and cumbersome. I wouldn’t want to hunt with one for those reasons, but great for new hunters in a stationary situation.
