Very exciting to be helping out Both Non-Ressy Billy tag holders in this Utah Willard Peak Mnt. Goat unit.
It took 2 trips to Scout the Unit to give a fair look-see, Pre-Season intel and lay of the land/Mountain.
Pete from Wisc and EJ from N.Mex. of our Bowsite Family, will have a Great hunt.
As normal, many of you have already recieved the lil vid's I Text out or Old School Email sent out......
Exciting

I start at the bottom via the Mantua Ut access, 13 miles up the terribly Rocky and washed out road.
I took the F350 out and the RZR2 for this trip upl
No Jeep, just the RZR2
Once at the summit, I parked and went to the North on the Closed ATV trail all the way out to Grizzly Peak
It was 84 degrees @ 8000 ft @ 0700.....Hot day ahead.
this Grizzly Peak area doesn't have the Nannies/kids like Willard Peak, more so Billies for some reason.
It is not as steep and cliffie as Willard Peak, but it does drop out down once ya get out on the edges......
All the Forest Fires here in the Rockies, sure made it smokey and ya could kinda taste it in your mouth.
2 Billies in the shale slide...…...on the Shade side about 1 mile away.
Lush green and feed with in the Wild flowers

My summer 'Buzz-hair cut" is great for these hot summer Pre-Scouting hikes.

Some folks think I 'Chew' but I don't.
That is a Blowpop sucker bulge in my cheek.......
They keep moistrue in my mouth as I hike (I break the sucker stem off) and when I get down to the gum in the center it is like chewing 5 starburst at once when ya first bite into the gum! ha
That wraps up this leg of the Pre-Season scouting trip.
Hot, dusty trip but the RZR2 has done it's job and ready for the next trip up to go out on Willard Peak.
Thanks for Viewing
Good luck, Robb
PS--I gotta get off to the gym and then up on the mountain for a hike--------> Willard Peak next ~~
Willard Basin, Willard Peak on the left and Inspiration Point on the right.
Willard Basin, Willard Peak on the left and Inspiration Point on the right.
When ya get into what they call Willard Basin, there is a primitive campground, no toilets but a spring with a PVC white pipe.
I have filled water bottles out of this spring with just 1 purifying pill added with no negative results.
If I get above 10x on my Zoom, without being on a tripod, it gets to jumpy/blurry so this is the best pic of the group

Hiking up to Willard Pond that is just below the crags of Willard Peak I spotted a herd of Bachelor Muleys in Velvet
I have never drank out of Willard Pond but many people camp around it in the pines.
Sometime ya see a moose in it though.
The hike in starts to get a little western once ya get past the pond
The trail is Legal for motorcycles, eBikes and hiking but NOT for ATV's

The face of Willard Peak normally holds good numbers of Mnt. Goats, many Nannies/kids/young Billies but there has been quite a few dandy Billies harvested in these crags/cliffy shelves
The Mnt. Goats are scattered through out this area.
The Backside of Willard Peak is rough and if ya arrow one in this area be prepared for a long pack out if it falls off a cliff/crag and rolls dooooowwwwnnnnnnn!
That is the Area of Ogden down behind me and Willard Bay
I did get 1 tick thru this hike in/out.
Removed it when I found it after getting home
Ben Lomond Peak is also with in the unit boundaries and holds some dang good Billies.
Mnt Goat Bed...…..that was hoofed out for comfort!
I have noticed that if I take a few extra minutes and cover my RZR2 before I leave it for hours, that I never get anything stolen
When I have left it uncovered, I guess the temptation to grab something is to easy
That did suck loosing a jacket like that and my helmet...…….not any more though.
That wraps up this Pre-Season scouting/hiking trip.
Pretty satisfying and an enjoyable mid-week get-a-way for a great cause.
I had a bull moose in the road on the way out...….
Thanks for viewing

Thanks for the pics, Robb. Hope Native Okie can draw this tag someday!
You still hold the longbow/trad State record Jim!!
If NO drew it, I know the kid can shoot !!

Good luck, Robb
Very generous of you to help others out, Robb! Kudos to you!
When you get to Iowa, look me me up. I’ll buy you a case of Blowpops! (not sure that sounds quite right!)
I was just watching them from my driveway yesterday. Way less work! Sure hope to draw that tag some year. Last year a nice billy was hanging out with the deer I was chasing much lower in October Seriously, I was stalking a buck with does and he just walked through the middle of them like he was part of the herd.
Hey thanks-----> BlowPops!! haha
-88 I am starting to run into them on the late Wasatch Front bow buck hunt up Millcreek ~~ Surprised me.
I have been doing this (lil vid's Scouting ) for years now, for others with a tag that can't come out and scout.
I have a 200 mile limit-- 1 way so a 400 mile day type deal as I certainly don't charge any $$ for doing this.
I have better luck if I just go on my own time as I have been screwed a time or two when some one with the tag didn't show up to 'scout' and I never heard from them until I got home....so I go alone most of the time now and it is much more enjoyable, although I did meet with and hike into BARETOP Mnt./Utah, with the 18 year old girl that drew 1 of the Ram (Rocky) tags for up there and her dad this early summer and it went well...…...
I am fudging my 200 miles on this coming weeks trip down to Az./7W but I want to hike the highest Peak in Az. (just shy of 13k) and it is just to the east a pinch from 7W.
If the Ski Lift runs early enough, I might 'Cheat' and ride it up! and then hike to the Peak from there.

Yes it’s still the record for traditional archery in Utah.
One Down!
Wisc. Pete did good
Good luck, Robb
Was that goat JUST killed? He almost looks like he has his October/November fur already....
Yes Sir---Jake
Very nice Hide/Hair on him for sure
They are already getting pushed down into the Crags, the guys holding out for the later season may be in for a mess of a recovery!!
Good luck, Robb
I had the nanny tag few years back. Robb gave me some nice info, had a few people already going along. Shot a nice nanny coming up from the bottom out of Willard. Fun hunt and great stuff from Robb
Coming up from the Bottom is basically straight up!! haha
You always do dang good Brad--------> no matter what species you are hunting.
Good luck, Robb
#2 Down!!
It has been a dang good year for those I helped out scouting and sharing intel with.
Congrats
Good luck, Robb
Nice goats!
You should have some good karma coming your way by the time you get to Iowa, Robb!
