Goretex vs. NeverWet
Equipment
Contributors to this thread:
I recently saw some information about NeverWet by Rustoleum and boot restoration.
These Wolverine goretex boots would leak if the sun went behind a cloud. I’ve had them awhile - So I figured WTH. Let’s give this stuff a try.
I gave them a good spray down after removing the laces. I used the entire bottle.
I’m letting them completely dry now and will report back.
Is Neverwet listed as friendly to breathable membranes? Some (like Nikwax) is, while others is definitely not. Interested in hearing your test report.
Wow a whole bottle on worn out boots?
I hope it works, lol.
Yep. Only $15
A true test!
I did the same test on very similar boots a few years ago, except I used Scotchguard I think. Can't recall if I sprayed a whole bottle on em though. Probably.
Didn't work.
Goretex should be called "AlwaysWet". It's a good windblock, but that's about it.
Looking forward to the results
I think I have the same boots, Wolverine antelope boots that leak like heck. Sold by Cabelas, they are very comfortable. Would love to hear if this works.
We're looking forward to learning from this experiment.
The boots are ready for the test, but its so dry now here in Colorado, there isnt even any dew on the grass.
Stay tuned
I'm especially curious if the surface cracks or if the leather itself cracks. Thanks for doing this cnelk.
NeverWet sounds like some sort of a diaper to handle daily incontinence or excitement on a stalk or shot on a monster animal !!
Ahhh, can u use a water hose, it might be a while before it rains lol
For informations sake, that Neverwet is best thing I've found for waterproofing the feathers on your arrows!
oldgoat: which Neverwet is best for feathers? The boot one? The fabric one? Another?
Heck cnelk, you could put them on and put some water in the tub.
Never even heard of this stuff.
Interested to see your results.
Tic-Tock, Tic-Tock, Common CNELK, Time To Talk! :)
Outdoor Fabric is only one I've used. Spray it on outside and let dry for 24hrs and also on the instructions they mention temperature and humidity considerations when applying!
Patience guys!
My test will consist of a real scenario - i.e. walking thru wet grass in mornings - as we do when hunting.
I havent shot anything standing in my bathtub full of water
Just set up a target in the bathroom. Then not only can you test the neverwet, but you can also check shooting something from your bathtub off the list.
Rain is on its way. Ill test the boots soon
Never shot anything standing in a bathtub?
How bout splittail?
I was gonna say that’s too bad cnelk I feel for you brother.
There has been a cougar or 10 that I did corner in the shower. But they left more wet than I did
"I havent shot anything standing in my bathtub full of water."
Ever step in a puddle?
Cross a creek or marsh?
How about FILL them with water and see if it seeps out???
We need to know. I don't have time for patience.
I bought some stuff like this a few years back and tried it on my boots. It was a no go.
One thing is for sure....... That Grangers stuff is worthless.
Looking forward to the results.
this went from testing boots to mounting Cougars....gotta love bowsite.
As predicted, some rain came thru so test #1 is complete
I must admit tho, it musts have been like waiting for draw results for some of you!
I went to a nearby hay field that hadnt been cut yet. The grass was knee high and still damp
Started off with dry jeans and boots. Then I walked thru the high grass for a bit and saw that moisture was beaded up on the boots - always a plus
I hiked around the hay field for quite awhile, staying in the tall grass the whole time. My jeans were pretty well soaked and the boots appeared damp on the outside
But my feet were nice and dry.
Compared to how they did leak, this is definitely a major improvement, if not a solution.
Its supposed to rain more this week and I will do another test and report back
So far, so good.
Cell, Keep testing and reporting back over time:)
I have the same boots in about the same shape...comfortable!
Mark
Test #2
It rained most of the night as was still drizzling when I went on my daily morning 2 mile run/hike.
I did everything I could to get these things wet. I walked thru puddles, I went thru an edge of a cut hay field for 1/2 mi, putting the boots thru everything I could. The bottom of my pants were very soaked
Back at home. Inspected the boots for any moisture that may have leaked inside
Nothing
So far so good X2
Impressive. Do your feet typically sweat a lot? I'm curious if the product has indeed water-proofed your boots, but eliminated the breathability. I.e. I could dip my boots in liquid silicone roofing paint and they would be waterproof, but my feet would get soaked with exertion because my feet sweat a lot. Thx
10/4/18
Update: I wore these boots everyday for 2 weeks elk hunting this fall. Not a leak or problem
Awesome, thanks for the update!
cnelk: what about my breathability question? Do you feel that the membrane allows perspiration out, or has the spray clogged the pores?
haha, Brad! We could have gone barefoot and our feet wouldn't have gotten wet!
Smarba
Nothing changed. For $15 give it a try
Nick. Yep! Well we did skip across a couple streams and the grass had dew once :)
I put neverwet on my snake boots last summer. I wear these boots year round and it really worked, kept my feet nice and dry. Couldn't believe it but it worked.
Awesome. I just got back from a hunt where my Gortex boots failed miserably. These boots are really comfortable, so I'm going to give neverwet a try. Thanks.
You might google it, just to temper those expectations.
Even if it would have rained, it's not like our feet touched the ground anyway...lol.
Thank you sir your awesome.
