2018 Sheep Hunts
Wild Sheep

Season began yesterday in the NWT. Good luck to everyone who drew my tags in the Lower 48. Post pics and if you have the time, create a thread on here for us to live vicariously through you.
Great idea to start this thread cowboy. Looking forward to hearing from any & all lucky sheep hunters!
25 days till the AK opener.
Good luck, guys!
Ike, I still wanna see you get serious and ventilate a big ol ram with your recurve!
Good luck to all! Little over two weeks till the BC opener. Helping my buddy this year. Good training trip for Mt Caribou which opens two weeks later.
I’ll be cheating and toting the Tikka for this years hunt, shaving hair off that ram in Colorado last year left a bad taste in my mouth and I need bang stick redemption to get back to square one with the sheep hunting gods :). Hiking in August 8th solo and not coming back until I kill or Aug 19 rolls around.
Good luck all! I had my fun last year in WY.
I’ll be in BC for Stone Sheep on the opener. Leave a week from Saturday! Like Tembry, it’s the bang stick for me. My second go for Stones.
Good luck Trevor! Hunt hard, stay safe. That's bad ass. Keep us posted.
Sheep hunting isn't any fun but the tag is free and someone's gotta do it so I guess I'll go...
Tavis, that may happen one day, but it won't be this year. I'm taking my compound. And I'll be thrilled and lucky to shoot a ram with it.
Rookie sheep hunter from Indiana (at age 56) driving to Colorado S35 in two weeks. Planning to spend a couple days acclimating in the high country prior to the August 4th opener. Will be hunting with Sangre de Cristo outfitters the first week of season. Have arranged (family and work schedule) to hunt the entire season if necessary. Tough unit to kill a ram with a bow, but it will be alot of fun trying!
Good luck sheep hunters!
No mountains for me this year. Maybe in 2019...
WY in Sept and La Palmosa in January for me. I better watch every step I take between now and then.
My buddy just shot his 12th archery sheep - 2 hours ago. A NM Rocky +180".
So proud of him. A huge accomplishment.
Your friend shot one hell of a nice ram! 12 archery rams as well!!! Very well done.
Helped my buddy out. He arrowed a full curl 10-yr old Stone ram on day 6. Took us 3 more days to pack it out. Great when a plan comes together!
Awesome, Kurt! Sounds like he got a great ram!
I did as I said, I cheated and took the rifle, and came home with a solo walk in ram. My first sheep to boot! Now that the monkey is off my back I can start forming a plan for a 2019 archery ram!
That's a stud ram from NM. I suspect they'll be quite a few hitting the ground soon. Can't wait for the pictures and stories.
Congrats Trevor, that's a beauty!
Congrats Tembry! Great ram...
Nice Trevor.... Congratulations. Ed F
Attaboy T! Grants again! Gonna be an August to remember. See you next week
Congrats Trev, your year is starting out with a bang!
Congrats again Trevor, awesome ram!!!
Awesome TEmbry! That's a beauty! Great picture too. Congrats, thanks for sharing.
Did it really die on the tiny bit of flat ground in your picture?
Good on you TEmbry!
Congrats
Good luck, Robb
Congrats Tembry nice ram.
I leave Saturday and hope to add to the thread...
Great Ram Trevor, congrats!
Trevor, Tell me that you cooked some tenderloins or backstraps over a campfire the night that you killed your ram! Well done.....(the hunt, NOT the sheep meat)….
HUGE congrats Trevor!!!!
Come on, I know there have been some other sheep killed this year!
I don't care if its bow, rifle, stick or stone killed.....post em up!!!!
Mark
Congratulations, Trevor! I love the stories and photos from sheep hunts. One of the top hunts on my list. Someday... fingers crossed.
FNAWS Ram
FNAWS Ram
Rifle Stone from Stone Mountain Safaris taken 8/8/18. Stone Sheep are no joke. They live in some AMAZING places. Taking a Stone with archery gear is one heck of an accomplishment.
Congrats kota! Looks like that ram has some good rings stacked in there....great coloured cape as well!
Congrats Kota and TEmbry!!
Yes, he has 10 visible rings and one or two broomed. We are calling him 11. Cape was a beautiful chocolate brown...Hunted with Stone Mountain Safaris...Great outfit.
Congrats gents on your sheep!!
Hi folks... made it back to Alaska after my first trip 7 years ago... thanks to all of you who continue to share your knowledge and expertise regarding hunting, gear, training and who provide inspiration here on Bowsite. I took both with a rifle in the Brooks Range, the most beautiful place I have ever seen.
Take care. Mike
Congratulations Trevor... and cory..
Congrats Kota and TEmbry. Those are some nice looking rams !!
Holy smokes, talk about living the dream. Beautiful animals, gentlemen!
Great Rams fella's!!!!
Congrats All
Good luck, Robb
Kota, Congrats on you FNAWS/Grand Slam ram!!! Gnarly old Stone, and I agree, toughest of the bunch for me anyway.
Trevor, nice Dall!
Little late to the party, but I had a pretty good walk in hunt here in Alaska over the past week. I didn't even take my bow, but am completely satisfied with the outcome.
Nice ram Nick! Looks like a low slung Ram that is fairly long. Congratulations!
Thanks Kurt! He was 39.5"'with 14.5" bases. Super nice ram and one I'll likely hunt the rest of my sheep hunting life to top.
Colorado guy here needs to post up, arrowed a great ram after some setbacks.
Yes he does One of our killers got it done in a darn tough unit
Great rams all. I hunted 10 days in Kamchatka for snow sheep. Weathered in all or partially for 6 days. Never saw a ram. Did shoot this ewe on the third day for camp meat. So I guess I can say I’ve killed my first wild sheep.
Disastrous hunt. Missed flights. Lost luggage ( wore the same clothes for 18 straight days). Got sick. Etc.
I’m really glad I got to go though. Wish I could look forward to another sheep hunt, but it’s gonna be a LONG time until I can hunt sheep again
Congrats to those who are successful, and good luck to those yet to go!!
PS . . . If I’d known I wouldn’t even see a ram, I’d have taken a lot more time and care on the ewe pics. Live and learn
That’s hunting bake. Smile and get em next time
Wow, that's a great ram Nick!
Definitely not a typical trip for a first sheep hunt, Bake. Sorry you didn’t get a ram.
Great adventures for great sheep!!!
Congrats to all (and keep the pics rolling)!!!
Mark
What a bruiser Nick! Congrats to all here, truly outstanding. Sorry Bake, hopefully a make up hunt is coming sooner than you realize
Great animals fellas! Very cool!
Kissing 40"-------->
One Hell of a Ram Nick!!
Good for you bake.
Good luck, Robb
Great thread. Congratulations guys!
Well done Nick! Dream hunt
Congratulations Guys! Awesome rams and awesome adventures!
That’s a bomber ram, Nick! Now you need to get one like it with that recurve!
Great work everyone! Where is this Colorado Archery Ram!?
I honestly think the worst part about sheep hunting is eating them :)
Hot damn that looks good...
Nick, Next to Muskox, sheep is my favorite wild game meat....that looks delicious! When I saw the size of the "donut hole" on your ram, I knew it was one heck of a nice ram. Well done. Bake, Enjoy your sheep meat!!
Grats to everybody! I passed this guy, just couldn't will him to legal or close enough to it and I wasn't going to chance it. I missed a bomber who's lamb tips were curled all the way to backwards, way over full curl, on day 6. Crept over a rise with him feeding and didn't want to get too high for the range and risk spooking him. Range finder said 58, 58, 45, 58. I shot for 58 just over his back. Ranged my arrow at 58. Ranged his hoof marks back to the boulder I was next to when I ranged him and it was 45 yards. Got to 100-150 yards on 5 other days from him and another legal ram, but in the end, ran out of food and had to head down the mountain. I'll get one next year.

Needs a few more years and should probably get smarter

I don’t think you’re cheating using a rifle on a sheep hunt especially when it might be a once in a lifetime opportunity. I’d love to get one with a bow but I’ll wait till I get a few more or draw a any ram tag. This was my first year sheep hunting and got one on a atv float hike in. Next year I will definitely have a lighter pack and be in better shape. Sheep season should be before beach season. I’d say I lost 10% of my body weight in 8 days and found abs I lost many beers ago.
Heading in for my Wyoming sheep hunt Friday AM.
Ike,
sounds like a heckuva successful hunt...not easy to sneak on a cat in a Wal Mart parking lot!
Mark
Congrats Ermine. That's a heck of a trophy! S9 DIY is no joke!
Right On Justin!!! Awesome!
Right on Justin, way to go!
Damn nice Ram Justin!!
Congrats man
Good luck, Robb
Congratulations! Justin, I'm sure that was no easy task:)
Sheep are special as the guys that hunt them. Nicely none. my best, Paul
Took my first rocky in WY two weeks ago. I loved this photo the most of all we took. My sea level legs and lungs were working in slow motion at 11,300 feet.
Nice rams Justin and Nick, A lot of nice sheep taken congrats to all who where successful.
Congrats to all! Great rams and photo's!
Justin, Way to "embrace the grind" as you stayed with the mission through thick and thin!!!
Mark
Awesome thread congratulations to all!
Nice Rocky Ram Adam!
Did ya see many Grizzz or wolves?
Good luck, Robb
Robb
Spent 7 days in the wilderness east of the park and never saw or heard one. I must have smelled so bad thst I pushed them all over the mountain.
Well guys, don’t post here too much anymore since I have been gun hunting more than archery due to a shoulder surgery, elbow surgery on both arms and a complete re-attachment of my right tricep less than a year ago, but I am still committed to completing my Super Slam with any weapon. This year I went on my 4th hunt to get my Stone Sheep and was finally successful with Lief at Stone Mountain Safaris in BC.
Great stone Redman. Beautiful dark cape.
God bless you Redman go get um.
Never sheep hunted and more than likely won't be in my near future love all the pictures and stories my question is what are you guys looking at when you say full curl? Yes I get it the horn needs to go so far but what's far enough to be legal?
Boone, a perfect circle is full curl. This is a good example.
Great animals and great thread. Congratulations on all of you that harvested a ram! Sheep hunting is truly a life changing experience!!
Congrats on a great ram Redman! Way to persevere!
Redman, thanks for posting and congrats! All legal sheep are trophies and are perfectly acceptable to post on here, regardless of the method of take.
I’m halfway to my FNAWS and a Stone is next on my list (unless I miraculously draw a Desert).
A bit late to the game here but got this guy August 8th. A good one out of S9 at 164 4/8.
Congrats to all!!!
Redman...that late season stone ram is awesome! Love that thick cape! My wife killed a bighorn in Alberta on Nov 15th a number of years back and the hair length still amazes me.
Nice ram, rockymountainsnyper. I bet your guide got a nice tip!!!
This sheep meat, I tell ya, I gotta just get rid of it.
:) Just made Osso Bucco myself! :)
My 2018 Alaskan Dall sheep. Full disclosure.....with a rifle.
