Pine Acres has 9 Large Bear Management Areas to hunt in. 2 of which borders Blue Lake Provincial park to the North and Winnange Provincial Park to the South. No Bear hunting within the boundaries of the parks. These parks feeds our sites numerous bears each baiting season!!

Each barrel gets 4 pails of granola, candy and topped off with our popcorn mixture!! When baits are started so early, we bring in bears from far and wide....whats the benefits of baiting so early....you create competition by bears for the bait.

NEW site...Baited this site up in April. Left the camera there till today. Batteries died after 2000 bear pics. Never needed this site during the spring 2018....but we baited it up on a regular basis. Its going again for Fall and will be hunted this Fall.....

I like to bait while bears are heavy on berries. I use all sweets in the Fall....no meat at all. 2018 is going to be the heaviest berry crop in years!!! But we should not have any problems getting bears in front of the hunter.
Our Bear Management areas all have active logging operations within them. Ensuring a constant natural food source for our bears. Which is one of the reasons why Ontario has a population of over 100,000 bears!!!
We are only having a 2 week Fall bear hunt this year. End of hunting for us is September 1rst!! No fall Combo Bear/ Wolf hunt this Fall. 2019's Fall Combo Bear/Wolf is filled already.
****Bumper Crops of Berries mean the sows will be well fed for rearing their young in the new year!!!

Joe (Ontariojoe) and I get side tracked every once in a while when we do our baits. Like to explore for new sites. In this area, there is an old abandoned railroad town. Only way to town is by canoe or tracks. Town had been used for filling water & maintaining the old steam engines. ALL old buildings are still standing. Been there about 3 times. One day when we have time we will revisit the town and post the pics we take. Town is called ...NIDDRIE.. est late 1800`s...considered a Historical site.

I will pour a stream of bear bomb across a road, leading to trail head to stop the animals travelling the road. Scent trail goes all the way to the bait. Bear bomb drip brought in a couple of new bears to this spot and according to the small, a fox.

If a Hunter wants this bear he will have to put in his time. I have more morning pics of him than day or evening. Have to use an ATV. Archery site. There are other bears at this site so hunter will have to be picky and know how to judge a bear.
****OUR BAITS are active and bears are coming in. WE are doing our job....***Now it's up to the hunter and the bear to finish the deal.*** A bear, in the Fall, will not put up with a figety hunter when in the stand. Right now he is Bait by day....berries by night. Spook him too much and it will be Baits by night, berries by day!! Remember, its now up to you to bring the bear in front of you to shoot!!
How to finish the deal? ASK questions & Listen to the guide....DO NOT take pictures of the little guys while waiting for the bear of a lifetime....keep your phone away, each time you use it to check time or play on or text, you light up your face.... If you spook your bear, wait, theres a chance he might be back**** Sometimes when a bear walks away on you he's just testing the situation. NEVER shoot just because he looks like he's leaving the site, unless you have a good shot...no need to wound. *** Be prepared for bugs. If you aren't, you might not get your bear in front of you, slapping the bugs out of your face in a sure way to lower your chances at a big guy. Little guys will still come in!! Be prepared for the bugs for the first sit. ABOVE ALL have a positive attitude...Negativity creates a negative outcome.

Best way to not orphan any cubs is to wait at least 7 minutes. Cubs will show up by then. If you accidently shoot a wet sow, then you did not wait to observe. A sow with cubs will make vocal sounds as she's walking in to the site. She will be constantly be looking back in the direction she came from. Cubs might be side tracked licking a bag dragged off or eating berries just out of site from you. ***In the above pic, you can see she was lactating. Take the time and you will see!!
Most times if you see just cubs and no sow. Its because she is circling the area looking for danger. If she does detect danger...she will make a couple of vocals to bring the cubs to her.
This same lactating bear in the spring would be a $25,000 fine if accidently taken!! No fine in the Fall, but unethical to knowingly take her!!!
Why not just not hunt the site if theres a sow with cubs??? Well, most times there are many more bears than her visiting. I have my baits out for at least a month before the hunt. I attract bears from miles away. There is also a bear hitting this bait ( Wildrice Bait) that is the same size as the lactating female. You learn alot about bears when you have to watch them to sex them!!! Very EDUCATIONAL!!

So far 5 bears taken....more pics Saturday. Has been in the mid nineties since the start of the season. We are in a drought and have been since last September. Blueberries are almost done. Mountain ash just getting ripe now. Many bears seen, hunters are passing till the right bear shows itself.

Hunter has only seen a this years cub since Aug. 15th during her afternoon sits at this site. Camera shows this bear from daybreak till 11:55 am. She needs to do a morning sit here..... but she was moved to a different site today because of no show by the bears visiting her site during her afternoon sits. Her husband might sit here on Sunday morning.
During a hot spell, like now, mornings are important. Hopefully he will!!! Dark at 8:40 Pm. Daylight at 5:32 am

Our last hunter just brought in a bear to take home....all done for bear.
Pine Acres starts backup again October 27th for 3 weeks of Whitetail hunting...and 1 week at end of November for Timberwolf... Good luck all.

I have only 3 trail cams out. Our Whitetails are stable and because of the predator control should start to notice an increase in populations next year. ALL hunters last week saw many deer each and we took 2 for 4 hunters. We are hunting our own private lands so we are trying to shoot 9 point plus.
