It’s early but surely there are a few down. Post em up with date of kill and any other particulars you want to include.
My 2018 elk season will be lived vicariously through you bowsiters, so I am eagerly awaiting pictures and stories......hurry please!
Hi all! I was lucky enough to tag out opening morning in Colorado. I will tell the story when I get a chance to sit down and write it up!
I'm going to be spending some time behind my rifle this year so hopefully you guys can fill the interwebs with dead archery elk pics
Got my meat..... Now to hunt horns!!
Awesome, way to go fellas!
Nice work gentlemen...I love it !
Good job! Look forward to reading the stories.
100 posts before 10 pictures is my guess. Dammit I just added to the madness of scrolling through 100 posts to see a few pictures. I can't be the only one that feels this way? HAHA.
Great start guys! My deer & elk hunt starts Saturday here in WY.
BRI, Last year or the year before, I started a picture & story only Meat Pole and the thread got blasted. No, you aren't the only one who feels that way but too many others think that is "censorship" or something or just think they have to post something anyway. I still think its a great idea so if someone else wants to start it before this one gets too long, go for it. We can see if it lasts more than a week this year. :) I might try it again, but I'm leaving on Sunday and won't be around to monitor it at all.
Congrats to those that have scored. We start on friday...
Congrats to you guys that have filled tags.
Who's the skinny guy with the cow? :-)
Heading into the Gila Thur with an elk and bear tag in my pack!!! I'll HOPEFULLY share some pics soon!!!

Diy, solo..Colorado public land. I called in 9 bulls over the weekend and this was the second biggest. Gave me a 35 yard broadside feeding shot, went 60 yards. I forge my own knives and was able to put them to work!
Great job, Brewstro!
Another Bowsiter scored this morning on a beautiful public land 6x7 after about a 2 hour hunt (his opening day). Hopefully he will post a pic after he gets the meat out!
Nice job guys! Nice to see some early elk hitting the dirt.
You guys are kicking it !!
I am fixin' for Wyoming ------------>

Wow, the rare double.
Nice work!
An elk double pic, that's so sick. Congrats guys!!!!
Hunt man, how in the hell did you manage to get 2 elk in the same picture? I can’t even roll one over, let alone move it. I assume they didn’t die like that? Great picture by the way!!!
They died like this. Crazy hunt
Hunt, you need to do a write up on that.
I'll bet it's quite a story.

Congrats to all!! Hunt can't wait for the recap...
elk no. 10 for me and I turned 60 this year. 4th day of the season
Congrats guys! Hunt, you are on a roll my friend!
Glad to see so much success already. One week away!
Nice job Huntman. Odd that they died so close together. Never seen anything like that.
Congrats to all that have scored! Not a bull, but a big lead cow that resulted in 170lbs of meat. DIY hunt with my son in Colorado. We were into elk every day 40yds and under....thick cover made for tough shooting. Great time, especially when you experience it with your son.
Basinboy Looks like the same spot as last year:)
Shot this guy 3 days into a 9 day hunt with some buddies. Bugled him in to 20 yards mid day. 4.5 miles in otc Colorado. Good times good times:)
Logan awesome Bull I sure hope you have horses or alot of help. My back hurts just thinking of a 4.5 mile pack out. Again Congrats
That double is awesome. Congrats to all!
My second elk. Shot her on day 2 of our Colorado OTC hunt
Trophy8... Congratulations... and happy for your success on your bowhunt for elk with your son. Sounds like a great hunt area for you. How did your son do ? Also.... Congratulations to all you other fine bowhunters who have hunted hard, shot straight and have been successful this season on some fine bulls and cow elk, even with the bad wildfires this summer. HH
Got lucky sept 7, solo hunt, 20 yard frontal shot, fmj tipped with a exodus broadhead
HH....Yes it was a great time! Frustrating at times, being so close yet so far. My son almost had the shot 3 times 15-25yds, but the "the branch in the way" bit hit him each time. He showed good decision making by not taking a risky shot. One morning we had a bull let out a scream 30 or so yards away in the oak brush that we both could feel the pressure as the leaves fluttered....I was 15-20yds behind my son...all I can say is WOW!!...what an experience.!!! I should add that my son let me take the shot at the cow as we both could have shot....That's a good son indeed!
Wyoming bull, 50yrd shot through basketball size hole. He kept getting closer so I kept shooting, got 3 arrows in him, all 3 were fatal.
Congrats Buckskin21 on the Cow! Hessticles that must have been a rush! Congrats to all
Tracker, yes sir same spot as my Bull. That spot is consistent

Nice bull carcus! Those exodus heads are deadly, Congrats!
Thanks shaft, IMO there isn't a better broadhead than a Exodus. for compound bows
Solo DIY New Mexico bull. 42 yard shot. Went less than 100 yards. A very tough packout for a 62 year old guy.
Hell of a bull / video Hessticles, well done.
Nice bulls & cow's all around.
Congrats to those who have punched a tag and shared your story
Congrats to all great animals
And this is how I found him.
And this is how I found him.
Awesome job everyone. Dang Scrappy, that had to be great for gutting. lol
Congratulations to everyone that has filled their tag so far. Two weeks left!
Good job, Elksong. Longbow. Quite an accomplishment.
Beautiful bulls Elksong and Scrappy! Congrats
Solo Colorado bull, died in a small creek channel and I couldn't get him out for a decent pic.
Bulls were bugling well 4 miles deep in Montana! Snuck into 25yds while two bulls were sparing. Rage Typan's left a good blood trail.
Walked by me at 45 yards glunking and chasing a hot cow. Had pre ranged where i thought he'd present a shot but she took him away from the rest of the group. Shot for 50 and hit him high and back but he only managed to make it 60 yards before piling up. Super fun hunt and my biggest bull to date. Colorado OTC
Great job Bowsiters! Congrats to everyone!
Lotsa early bulls! Nice!
THP- Thats a toad dude. I'm sure the magnitude of that OTC bull is not lost on you. Impressive beast!
Some great bulls taken so far! Headed to NM Unit 34 Friday for my first ever archery elk hunt. Pretty stoked to put the rifle away and see if I can harvest with a bow. Hopefully have some photos to share in a week or so. Good luck to everyone.
that looks 400" THD !! wow
My season lasted a whoppin' hour and 20 minutes. The haul out was a whole lot longer and suckier! lol! Actually, I can lol now. I damn sure wasn't then!
Dang Rob awesome 5th and whale tail on that beast!
Nice to see things starting to pick up. THP and Wyobullshooter those are some great bulls. THP would be interested to see what that beast scores. He's a beauty !
Awesome bulls Tyson and Rob! Massive
Glad I could contribute antlers this year although i prefer eating the yearling cows I've filled the freezer with the last couple of years. Was hoping to arrow the bull i lost last year(and have recently located) but I'm thrilled to have taken a bull of this caliber OTC. 357 gross 346 net. Now what to do with my 22 points...
Wow, congrats Rob! An hour and 20, your killing me buddy!
Cow down. Onto a bull.....
That’s a fat cow. Nice job.
Off topic...is that a man bun?
10 yd double lung, took 3 jumps, I bugled he turned walked back to 20 yds coughing....sent second arrow through heart. Awesome experience, love elk hunting!
New Mexico unit 16B bull. Shot 9/12. That unit is some tough country. 20 yards and came in on bugle. Incredible memory. My brother got his first bull the day before.
Montana, 3 days left until heading home. Couldn't have come at a better time,uh maybe 20 years ago. They are big and alot of work and it's really nice to have friends with horses.
Sept 10 Utah. Son Zac called him in to a Danny Moore frontal 20 yard shot. I should have had video, awesome sequence. Short haul out from an area that had some steep, thick holes.
I have had a blast chasing around big bulls for the last two weeks. I had my chances just didn’t capitalize and get a shot off.
This morning was my last hunt for my 2018 elk season. Called this bull in while I was heading to a blind to try and sweet talk a bull into coming for a swim.
Good luck to everyone that is still hunting and Congrats to all that have been successful.
Some good ones this year . Congrats all.
Way to go you guys!!
Happy for ya Todd ~~ Dandy Dutton bull for ya man.
Good luck, Robb
Bulls fighting all day, got in between two that just couldn’t stop. Shot him at ten steps frontal. CO OTC.

Some great bulls hitting the ground! Congratulations!
Some days in the woods in the woods are better that others. This particular day will likely never be topped. The elk were going nuts and five minutes into my calling sequence this bull charged in on a rope. My dad's first archery bull and a day neither of us will ever forget.
I love September. That is all :-)
The fruits of our labor! My buddy called this guy out of the timber for me on our last morning...
Wyobullshooter thanks man draw odds should be even better next year! Haha congrats brother.
Good job guys!
Congrats all successful hunter
Wyoming 9/7
Had a good afternoon wind and spent over two hours working him and a couple other bulls up with cow and bull calls before he finally came in. First shot at 26 yards, second at 46. Our group went 4 for 4.
EDIT: Forgot to add that my picture this year came out a little better because of the little tripod phone holder that J Tree got me. I had to leave one blade of grass in there to keep with my tradition of amateur pictures.
From: Ucsdryder13-Sep-18Private Reply That’s a fat cow. Nice job. Off topic...is that a man bun

Don't dis OR-AB :) The kid is a killer and gets it done year in, year out. He also looks like a ninja and could probably kick our asses.
Well done, Ike! Love seeing these bulls. Living vicariously through all of you!
Congrats to you guys! A Sept elk hunt is the best there is! Have to experience it to know it!
Congrats to all. No doubt It’s been a tough season weather-wise.
Great bull Ike! Hope your dad was one of the 4?
Got this Wyoming area 7 warrior on the last evening of an incredible 8 day hunt.
Congrats guys! Some great bulls hitting the ground!!!!
Took a nice cow this year in NW Colorado.Bulls were red hot when I arrived but just couldn't put it together.I think I'll try story telling once the season is over and we're all in withdrawals. What a season is all I can say.
16th Bull called in, 23 yards, Wyoming le unit. A big "thank you" to our own Midwest who found a hive of bulls and passed on their location.
This thread has made me about the only thing green in western Colorado. Awesome work men.
Fun pics, and the thrill is evident in most captions.
Jealous is all I can say!!! In all seriousness, AWESOME job guys! They sure are a blast to hunt.

Nice bull, Dan! Musta been hard to track considering that nonexistent bloodtrail. ;-) Congrats!
You boys are elk killers for sure. Enjoying this thread. Just got back and healing up . Man a hot shower is an amazing thing. Had awesome hunt with my wife of 38 years. Wind was worst I've seen in awhile gusting and swirling. Keep the pics coming.
Tremendous work gentlemen!
Great Bulls ... congratulations!!

Congrats to Wiscogiants (Scott) on a fine 6x6. Also to Peter from CT on a 7x7. Great meeting you guys. I am sore. Lol
Packing out the neck meat.....damn heavy.
Peter helping Scott load up the head and cape.
Can't wait to hear the stories, Jordan!
I will let Scott and Peter tell them, hopefully Stuart also comnects. Success on bulls in this unit..........1.25% chew on that. Rut made all the difference.
First elk ever, after 6 different tries. Evening of the 17th. New Mexico. Solo. God is good.
Good job ute. Love seeing first bulls. We've been shorter on them this year than the past several years.
Jordan, that bull is a bomber for that entire area of the state. Hope we hear more about it. Hopefully the shooter gets on and tells us the story.
This bull was taken west of the divide. Nuf said.
Wow wow wow. Good work everybody
Idaho public land bull. OTC
Story is up on the “2018 Elk Hunt Predictions” thread. He’s not a giant, but man I’m pumped. 1st Bull.
congrats ......never forget my first.
Grats on your first! Big accomplishment. And that feeling will keep you coming back.
This thread just gets better every day! Congrats on some great animals folks!
You wasn't lying Mike!!!!!! He's a brute!
As usual, this thread doesn't disappoint.
Alberta 5x5. When I got this bull I sat down beside him, to regain my composure, and admire him for a while. They are beautiful, fantastic and big animals. I took a few pictures and then got to work. Shortly after I started I heard a noise from the timber. It was like a deer snort, but unlike any snort I have heard. I looked around and, despite the relatively open timber, didn’t see anything. The contours of the area hid whatever was making the noise. I have read of Grizzlies making a wheeze/snort sound, but have never heard that sound so wasn’t sure that was what I heard. Regardless of what made the noise, it made me hurry a little more. Partway through the process I looked down through timber and spotted a dark object 100 yards away. I moved to see better and spotted a Black Bear with 3 cubs watching me. I’m still not sure that is what made the snorting I heard, as I’ve never heard nor read of Black Bears making that specific noise, but it may have been. Talking to them only sent the cubs up a tree, but the sow retreated. My only choice was to ignore the bears and continue on with the work. I worked quickly and within a couple of hours had the elk deboned and started leapfrogging loads off the mountain. I could occasionally hear the bears moving around in the timber during that time but, thankfully, never had any issues with them approaching. I usually have or get help to pack out Elk, but the weather was due to turn the next day, which might make it impossible to bring my truck closer, plus the bears provided extra motivation to get it done before dark. I pushed hard and got all four large game bags full of meat packed out in a little over 3 hours and just before dark. That was tough and steep, but really one of the shorter packs I have had for Elk. Still a lot of work that, at times, felt like an insurmountable task. But, got it done!
As usual, Cheesehead Mike gets it done! :)
Congrats to all. I'm missing the elk woods this year. Possibly next year
My Dad and I spent the last 8 days chasing bugles, had some close calls with some big bulls. We were able to call this bull in to 25 yards on the second to last morning of our hunt. The old Whackmaster put a Vipertrick through his lungs! He can still outhike me at 64 years young! Can't wait til next year Pa!!!
Great solo hunt Mike, Congrats!
Just back from a crazy Wyoming archery elk hunt. It was hot, really hot. And it seemed that everything was on fire. The elk weren't bugling, and finding them was next to impossible. Good friends Cody Hunter and Dennis Hunter had tags as well, and the thought that "misery loves company" had to be going through everyone's thoughts at times. It's hard to describe how smokey it was up there... A little like standing in a campfire.
Sunday morning the only bugles I heard gave me hope, and faster than seemed possible or even likely, I had a bull elk on the ground. Given that it was serious grizzly bear country Dennis stood guard as Cody and I made quick work of breaking him down and getting us out of the thick stuff. Sadly we learned that a professional guide had been killed by a grizzly while quartering an elk just up the road near Jackson only a few days earlier. Being in big bear country around the smell of blood makes you more than a little twitchy! Meat in the freezer, however, makes it something to smile about.
Big thanks to Cody and Dennis for the company, the help and the memories.
Success in the Black Hills on a cow tag.
Great elk everyone! Just got back from an elkless trip. It was a pleasure to meet WapitiBob and his hunting partner, Jordan, in Wyo. Pretty cool place that I will likely have a bull tag next time I visit.
And always a good time in CO with cnelk and crew. Dang tough weather conditions made for some dang tough hunting.
Glad to get the freezer full again.
Thanks guys!
Lots of nice elk on this thread, congrats to all!
I have to throw another pack-out photo in, just because my buddy Ryan takes great pics in the field...
Still learning, not my biggest bull (pretty sure my smallest) but had to earn it nevertheless.
9/21 New Mexico 16D...58 yard shot with a 50 yard recovery.
After 7 days was able to make it happen
Very kool you guys!!
Congrats to first time Bull Bow Harvest---------->
Good luck, Robb
the sound you heard was a huff. I had a black bear come up on me from downwind. didn'tknow he was there until it huffed. thought the sound was a snort. turned and there it was 12 yards away.
Lots of great elk taken this year!! I was after a calf and the Goddess of the hunt smiled on me, not that I didn't pass any opportunity at bulls. In fact I missed the same bull twice just before getting this elk, but that is another story. I'm just glad I got a calf because I could pack her out in one trip (80 pound pack), and for this 64 y/o gal, that one trip of a mile and a half of steep downhill/sidehill was all I could handle!
Fawn, you’re an inspiration. That is awesome! Congrats!
My trophy at the end of 2018 archery season. Grest year!
Some character up front.
Some character up front.
First bull. 9/18. Wyoming.
Shot this 5x6 in Colorado about 10 days ago. Extremely hot and dry in nw Colorado this year delayed the rut some I believe.
Great animals! Way to go fawn.
First time hunting AZ. We seen many bulls and wore ourselves out chasing them. Passed on alot but couldn’t resist this 7x7. Great but tough hunt! 25 yard shot and 80 yard recovery.
This pic depicts our season here in N Colorado. Dry. Hot. Not much happening.
I did manage to call in 5 bulls - all came in silent. I had 2 shots this season but... twigs and a low shot were the result.
Had another great week with Nick Midwest. Lots of laughs and chasing some elk.
I did learn - again- that the last week is NOT the best time to hunt my areas.
Hearing bugles is not important to me.
Calling in elk during pre-rut is.
Congrats to all you successful elk hunters!
Won't have any pictures to share here. My first archery hunt was a blast and had a bit more excitement than I wanted. 3rd day I shot a nice 5X5 at about 35 yards. Arrow deflected off an "invisible" branch but still scored a hit. Found the arrow with blood up about 2/3 of the shaft and my broadhead broken off. 3 1/2 hours later I found the elk, but as I approached a sow bear and two cubs had already claimed him. Fortunately I was able to back out without having to shoot the bear, but went home empty handed.
Still it was a whole lot of fun and I am hooked on archery hunting now. Lots of great encounters and was given a backstrap by my partner after helping pack his bull out almost two miles. Can't wait till next fall!
Better late to the show than never. Sept. 21 NM.
Big congrats to all the successful hunters! Especially the first elk/first bulls. Awesome!
It’s about time Will, Sheesh! We were all beginning to question your authenticity as an elk hunter! Lol. JK. You’re the man. Congrats.
Congratulations to all... lots of beautiful bulls.
Will that post doesn’t get you out of a recap!
Great memory with my son. He called in in several bulls for me and when this one came running from 800 yards it was a memory we will remember forever!
This is one of those huge Gila bulls that everyone dreams about!
Nice work guys!
Will, that's the blondest elk I've seen! Even his mane is blond, cool!

Called this bull in for my buddy on day 3 of our hunt. Towards the end of our hunt, I was able to sneak into the middle of a herd, and arrow this cow.
Went on our first ever elk hunt to Colorado this year. I’m in my mid-50s and my wife is in her early 50s and we went to the back country. It’s been my dream since I was 13 to hunt in the mountains. My mom and dad bought me a subscription to Bowhunter magazine when I was 13 and I would read it from cover to cover. I member thinking people actually hunt with a bow on the mountains and I wanted to do that someday. 43 years later and with my wife by my side we had it off into the backcountry in the Colorado Rockies. The evening of day 6 my wife called in a beautiful six point that gave me an 18 yard shot, and I put an arrow into his heart. He wheeled and turned to run away, both my wife and I hit him with our cow calls, he stopped looked back and fell down 48 yards from the shot . My wife is hooked. We’ll be out again, the good Lord willing. Elk nut, my wife was reading in your call app a little before this went down. To funny.
Here’s a picture of my wife with the bull she called in. She was excited beyond words!!!
September 17. SW Colorado. Let out a bugle at last light and got a response. A few more bugles back and forth and he came charging in. 30 yard shot. 40 yard recovery.
stealthycat no grizz in NM. It was a black bear. Much smaller but still not worth fighting with.
westslope - gave him a spin
Wyoming diy Sept 22. Day 15 of a 16 day hunt. Passed up 9 bulls. Very hot and windy. Bulls weren't very vocal during daylight. Solo pack job. 30 yd shot 70 yd recovery.
Robear, you have my respect. A solo pack job ain't no joke. Not sure I could pull that off anymore.
Congrats.
crosscut- Welcome to the Rockies! I am sure you might question why you waiting so long for something that is soooo awesome! Congratulations!
Me and ElkmtnGear found a weirdo freaky bull in wyoming last week! I dont think this was a yearling bull either. Big body with rounded, yellow ivories.
CO Local Guide - It pointed me to the elk above
CO Local Guide - It pointed me to the elk above
7 x 7 bull in a CO OTC unit taken at 30 yards on magic Monday, September 17, 2018, with 70 lbs Bear BR33 compound bow launching 515 grain FMJ arrows tipped with 125 grains slick trick BH. The bull ran 60 yards before it expired due to double lung shot. I covered 1000 yards in about 15 minutes to get in shooting position as per local guide onstructions. My first elk hunt and my first elk bull. I walked a little over 60 miles in 10 days. It took me 2.5 hrs, from 5:30pm to 8pm to quarter the elk, extract the backstraps, neck, and other meat. Finally the 5 game bags, each easily over 50lbs were hung from a nearby tree about 6 feet off the ground for cooling and some protection against coyotes. I had no bear, mountain lion or coyote issue as I left plenty equipment on the ground and hung a really sweaty shirt near the meat bags. The pack out was 5 trips of 4 miles round trip, for a total of 20 miles. Every pack out trip started with 200 yards up a steep mountain slope then the rest on a trail downwards to the trailhead. Plenty water and focus on the task made meat extraction bearable from 8am to 6pm on Tuesday, September 18, 2018. On Wednesday, September 19, 2018, I butchered the meat and wrapped it in thick butcher paper, then stored it in a freezer.
Just as a side note, I had no issues with altitude sickness but the dry air, humidity level was and still is below 30%, gave me nose bleeds every day. This trip was first initiated by a Bowsite member, FishStu, early 2018. We made the trip and hunted together the same CO OTC unit. Because of that we split the meat from the bull. He had his chance to take a shot at an elk cow at 38 yards which unfortunately did not finalize in our favor. We did have a great hunt and trip as we both did not expect to see that many elk and only hoped for a cow to take home.
What a bull Lomax!!!!!!!!!
No sickness here either but after three days, my nose bleed daily, often. I drank 35 liters of water, a 12 pack of Gatorade, three Coronas, and two gallons of milk in 10 days. Lots of miles in between. That hot, dry weather affected this hunter more then the hunted no doubt.
Once again, what bull!!!!!
Nice 5x5 from Montana. 9/25. Week and a half into the hunt.
Are there co units where you can shoot spikes with horns that long?
Quite a few draw units in Colorado do not have point restrictions.
Well I guess I learn something new everyday! Thanks Travis!
As long as you were in one of these units...
"There are no antler-point restrictions for any season in GMUs: 1, 2, 10, 20, 29, 39, 40, 46, 48, 49, 50, 51, 56, 57, 58, 61, 69, 76, 84, 201, 391, 461, 481, 500, 501, 561, 591, 682, 791, or units east of I-25 (except unit 140). Antlers must meet the minimum length of 5 inches long."

Have a great bowhunt. BB
Rather than start a new thread, and being I just hunt with a camera anymore, here's a few photos of the bull I was able shoot a few time.
Congrats to all of you who filled their tags and best wishes in the future to those who didn't. I think the two most important things is first you enjoyed your putting and second you learned something!
Have a great bowhunt. BB
Wow Bill, those are some amazing shots of an incredible bull! Thanks for posting.
Awesome bull picture Bill.
The stalker recurve filled the freezer. Wyoming bull. Off to Montana
WY Sept. 18, General area, Wilderness area diy bull. 20 yrd shot, 60 yrd recovery. 3 mile solo pack. Shot at 2:20 pm bugling and chasing cows. Seems like I'm shooting more and more in the mid-afternoon. Love not seeing another soul for a week! Congrats to other successful hunters.
Utah general tag SOLO. Killed this bull Thursday morning at 9:30 in a deep hole, got him back to the truck Friday night at 9:30. Sore, but ready to do it again! As Cam Hanes says "it's all mental" it took all my mental and physical toughness to haul him out on my back! Trimming up backstraps now for lunch!
Grats to everyone. SixLomaz, that is an incredible bull, much more so being OTC in CO and your first elk hunt. Absolutely incredible! Grats!
Congrats to all great photos!!!!
Here is my 2018 Az public land DIY bull. Taken on day 13 of the 14 day season. 40 yard shot. He went 35 yards and tipped over. Got both lungs and the aorta. He never took another breath. He was the herd bull with 10-15 cows and 3 satellite bulls harassing him. He must have been a fighter. Had 3 tines broken off. Right side G-5. Left side G-5 and main beam. Tough hunt ,but I am thrilled with the result. As some have said on here before, "I got the WHOLE hunt" !!
Congrats RIDGEMAN, your right it sounds like you got the whole hunt.
From looking at this thread its evident that bowsite has the worlds largest group of elk slayers.
Had the pleasure of hunting with and calling a bull for my good friend Sam. He lurks on here but doesn't post much:) Proud of you brother and congrats. Great memory.
Then on the same trip....less than 24 hrs later.....called one in for another buddy. This was Pete's first archery elk. So proud and happy to share a part of it.
Few weeks later I was able to punch my tag. Been a whirlwind season. I was solo on my bull and weather had turned for the worse so I didn't get any good pics. Getting those animals cut up by yourself is always a chore but what a great time.
Way to go all! Keep em coming!
Nice bull Brad and love the Fred Bear camo. Good luck in Montana your on a roll.
My sons first bull, public land NM with a rifle, age 13. Great times 10/8/18. (photos 2 and 3 will not rotate)

Envious! Nice work everyone
So to say that elk has been my "nemesis" animal is a gross understatement. My first elk hunt was in 1987. Since then, I've chased 25 NA species (including multiple hunts for elk), and hunted 5 continents. But, it took 31 years to finally kill an elk! And funny thing is, I didn't even know I'd be elk hunting this year. When I arrived in Utah on October 10 for a Shiras moose hunt, my outfitter asked if I'd like to hunt elk as well, as a hunter had just cancelled. Of course I was thrilled with the opportunity. So the next morning I was fortunate to take a great Shiras moose, and then two days later we called this elk up the mountain for a 40 yard shot. (Actually, it was the first time I've ever drawn on an elk.) Was probably the luckiest 3 days of my life. (Which is good, because I was making up for 31 years!)
Quickdraw1 that's what you call sticking with it. Congrats man. Now you do know the lottery is now over a billion. With your luck, I'm just saying.
Scrappy, funny you bring that up. With the luck we had (btw, the shiras hunt was a cancellation hunt, too) ,we literally went into Evanston that same afternoon and bought a lottery ticket! It was only $654,000,000 at the time,.....and I'm sorry to say we didn't win. So I guess it's back to the way things used to be.....
This year I said I'd only shoot a 350"+ or a club bull. Well my target bull broke his G2 off so when I found this guy I knew that I wanted him. So excited to take this bull as I've always wanted a club bull. OTC Alberta Canada

Wow, very nice job everyone. Archery hunting these elk seems to be an ongoing life passion for most of us. Sitting in my den admiring these pictures and already planning my 2019 hunts, September cant get here fast enough.

Depressed that its over!! But planning next year is kinda like a new puppy after 'Ol Blue checked out after 14 years.......lol
9/17 Wyoming with Triple 3....what a place. 7 pt. is a bull I called in a few days after I killed mine....looks like his top end gassed with the dry summer...cool bull though. Especially at 12 yards!
