Does it work? The SD card reader I bought for my iPhone doesn’t work and I’ve got trail camera set that I want to view without having a hike out and go find someone with the laptop to borrow miles away.

It might work but I would want to test it first to be sure. Most digital photo devices lay down a certain directory structure on each chip before they start saving pictures. The device then knows where to go to retrieve the saved pictures. The trail camera will probably lay down a different directory structure on the chip than the camera does.
The trick will be whether you can use the camera to navigate to any directory on the chip.

I tried that once and I lost my SD card pics and vids. I believe if the digital cam uses a different software to identify and read the files (pics/vids) than your trailcam or laptop, you may lose the files when you try to open them with the trailcam/laptop ONCE you tried it with your digital cam. I think the trailcam and the laptop also tried to reformat the card back to the software it uses....meaning you will lose your files. You could experiment with some generic cam pics/vids and see what happens. If you loose them no big deal.

I used a point and shoot digital for years to view the SD cards. After being dropped too many times and the screen is cracked beyond the ability of my eyes I picked up a stealth viewer.

I have successfully viewed SD cards from my game cams on my Canon digital camera with no problems....other than no way to transfer the files to save pics and wipe the card clean. So I now carry a small device that I can plug into my android phone that accepts the SD cards and allows me to view and transfer the files to my phone.

You may need to format the SD card to trail camera and test to see if you can view. Or you may need to format to the digital camera to view.
They are all different.
I said screw it and got a 'BoneView' SD card reader for my phone

To protect your pics when you go to view them on a device, LOCK the SD card. That allows access but denies any changes. I always do this and have never had a single lost image.

Most digital camera's will work just fine to view pictures, but I have never been able to play any trailcam VIDEOS on a digital camera. If you are using picture mode only you should be fine

I have a Vivitar point and shoot that I used for a couple years before I bought an iPad. Now, I just swap cards, but I do have a reader that connects to my iPhone if I need to check something on the spot.

Yes. Been using my Canon all year. Plug in the sd card and look through them, erase the ones I don’t want , put it back in the trail cam and do it again in a few days.
