Archery doubles are rare. I have been in on 3 in the last 5 years. Here is the story of the most recent . Enjoy. Hunt
Friday . We load up the packs for a 4 day hunt . Little chicken fried moose steak and eggs for breakfast . Thanks Trevor!
Loaded pack and ready . 43 pounds with whiskey:)
On the trail around 12:30 on Friday . 5 miles to camp. The team. Hunt. Longtime hunting partner Uncle Rog and Cam my brother in law .
Cam is in his second year of bow hunting . He practice all summer and trained hard. It was his shot first. He is learning fast . Hunt
Heading in. Good boots and gators are a must !!
There goes productivity! Ha! Looking forward to this one Hunt!
The last pull up to camp is steep. Cam said he should have trained harder :)
We make camp about 4:30. 6 man tepee. Perfect for 3 guys and gear. We do a little fishing.
Soon the sun goes behind the mountain and the elk start to come out. First a few cows and then a nice bull shows up and they put on a show. I am smiling ear to ear.
Off to a great start! Glad you aren’t waiting till next July on this one! Another awesome adventure right in top of hunting season! Yay!
We see a total of 9 bulls . To say we are excited would be a understatement . Whiskey and mountain house for dinner.
I sleep great until about 1 am. Then the bugles started . And they bugled and bugled some more. And some more. 530 am . I can’t take it anymore. Let’s get up and eat . By 6 we are under them in a big avalanche slide.
That’s some steep #$*&! ;-)
Oh BABY! That's what I was hoping this thread was going to be!!! Time to leave work, head home, make some popcorn and hit refresh.
Cam is up first. Soon after light I call in a 5 point. Cam gets a range and draws back. He shoots and the bull bolts. I didn’t hear a thump . Cam says no way I missed. Bugles are ringing out. Roger slides up the hill and I bring 2 bulls by that split him . He swings on the bigger of the 2 . Whack . That want go far I tell Cam!
I see 3 bulls at the top Of the slide. I bugle and they scream back. I can’t take it and head up the hill. I turn around a throw Roger my tube and said keep him talking! He does just that. I see the bull up hill. Here he comes bugling down the hill. I have stop him at 4-5 yards . He takes a arrow to the chest. At this point I think we have 3 down. But soon find Cams arrow and it’s a miss.
Bulls are still talking. So I grab Cam and head up the hill. Soon we are close to the bulls. I range the closest one . 35 . You got this Cam. He shoots and I see the arrow hit a branch and dives low. He is sad . We give him a prep talk. Come on we got work to do. Lots of work! How we found them!
Over 15 years ago me and Roger killed our first bulls In this spot. Special hunt!
Good friends are hard to come by and hunting partners even harder. I am lucky to have a great one in Roger. As solid as they come
Wow and congrats to you both.
Really cool
Congrats man!
Unbelievable! Wow, amazing that they died right there together! Unreal!
Would have been even more unreal if Cam had connected! Gives y’all something to shoot for for next year:-). Three bulls all piled up!
Congratulations! Well done!
Unreal!
The elk do not stand a chance against you guys! Congratulations, Hunter, that's the way to get it done!
Outstanding! Congrats to both of you!!!
We go to work. Me and Cam are taking the quarters off and Roger is deboning . By 11 they are boned out and in the bags. Meat cache. Rocks under the meat to let it breath.
We pack meat to camp most of The day
We sleep well that night . Sunday we head up top. Find a bull and work him for a few hours . Long story short a cow busted Cam at 35 yards from the bull. That night we shuffle meat down the trail.
Brother, like I told you yesterday, you guys are some killing machines. Unbelievable.
Monday is spent packing meat. All day .
Wow, great job! Let the work begin! Sore backs? :)
Wow....congrats to you guys!
That is crazy cool, congrats!
Wow ! Cool story.. thanks for sharing
Hot diggity!!
Congratulations!!
You might have to start your recaps a little earlier than the moose steaks to build some suspense. You guys are focused predators.
Great job!
Great story! I keep looking at that pic of them 2 laying side by side and wondering..."????"
It was as if one was telling the other..."you'll be ok, catch your breath, I'll wait with ya buddy!" and the other one says, " whats that there leaking out your side?" and then the 1st one says, "I'm just gonna lay here for a sec" and the other says "sounds like a brilliant idea".
Only plausible explanation!
Thanks for sharing! Always enjoy reading your posts, Hunt Man!
Thanks for sharing, dang thats a great morning of elk hunting
Love seeing you and Uncle Rog stacking them up, way to go!!!
One of the coolest threads I've ever seen. Congrats on an awesome hunt....!! I'm sure you gentlemen do your homework (except for the part about getting the elk to fall side by side!). I am NOT going to forward this to my hunting partners however. A couple of them are first time elk hunters and don't want them getting any ideas that this is how it is supposed to work....!!
At work going wow wow wow! Thanks guys, awesome job and story!
Unreal they died that close together! Great hunt!
Great story Hunt Man! Congrats to both of you!
congrats on an awesome hunt.
Wow. That was over before it started...... premature elk...... =D
You guys are machines for sure. Unreal. Never seen nor heard of em dropping like that side to side...... I'm just swinging at it here, but guessing one ran into where the other was. They both think they just got thumped by some invisible bull....... I can see em now walking stiff legged side by side with their heads angled and eye to eye like they do before they get with it...... then wobble, wobble and fall......
That's the wildest scene I've ever saw. Heard a story once about a couple guys that shot bulls while they were fighting and they never stopped fighting, went down together in a heap. But I never saw any pics of it. =D
Thanks much! Always look forward to "Elking Hunt". Knocked these down pretty fast...... must have some other place ya gotta be soon.... =D
Outstanding Hunt! Great recap congrats to you and roger!
You can tell when yer good, when you start stackin em up like cordwood!
Congrats!
Love it! Congratulations.
That’s AMAZING! Especially how they went down next to each other.
Congrats guys!
Unreal! Great hunt, gents! What a sight that must have been to walk up on!
Nicely done! Wow...falling dead side by side...amazing! Kevin
Wow amazing to have them fall that close together. You guys are fricken machines! Well done
Very cool Hunt. Love it..Great story...Congrats.
I'll pile on....great work and great story Hunter!!!
Makes me want to suck it up and go buy that OTC tag and put the work in............maybe I will. ;)
Wow, wow, wow! Congratulations!
Somebody's living right. ;)
Badass!!! Good work buddy!
Congrats Hunt Man. Thanks for sharing the story.
I've never seen 2 bulls die right next to each other like that! I bet you're one sore dude!
Never seen anything like that Hunt. You guys are strait killers. Thanks for the post.
Fantastic! Congrats on the double! Chin up Cam, your turn will come. ..
Very Kool indeed !!
Hang in there Cam as there are still plenty of days left for ya to arrow one.
Congrats
Good luck, Robb
I gotta get out of here!!!!!!! (Alice Cooper, Ballad of Dwight Frye). You guys are living the best life I can imagine. I used to be there, and I'll be back (this weekend) - Montana bound. Not hunting, but I will be prepping for an adventure like this for the following year. This has me primed, nice going, great hunt! TK
Congrats HUNT what a story. Dying inside not being able to chase bugles again this year.
Good deal. Now get a couple bear tags and do your part in calf killers over those gutpiles
Congratulations, awesome story!
Good work men... awesome. CONGRATULATIONS.
Next year will be two bulls one arrow. Crazy!
In a lifetime of great hunts this is on you'll remember forever. More to come my friend. Congrats!
What a hunt! Congrats guys
Great job boys!! For those of you who have not met Roger, he is as good as they come just like Hunt!! "Those aren't hunters Ma, their killers I can see it in their eyes!"!
Fantastic story Hunt! Those are the ones you remember. Congrats to you guys and hoping Cam connects on his next chance!
Sounds like a great hunt and certainly a great recap - thanks for sharing it with us HUNT.

Awesome dude! Huntman, as many years as I've elk hunted & seen a lot of bulls hit the dirt yours is the first where two bulls died next to one another, that's pretty darn amazing, congrats sir!
ElkNut/Paul
Tell Cam to keep his head up. It happens. We've all been there....multiple times:)
Stay at it and stay positive. He'll make it happen. The Bowsite family is pulling for him.

I think i know where and in Montana too but your secret is with me.
Talk about when it all comes together! haha awesome hunt and congrats to you all!
So cool. You guys are worse than cancer for elk. If I was an elk I'd straight up walk my way out of Montana. Too many killers over there.
Great recap of the hunt, you two are elk killing machines.
Holy crap ---- stack em up like cord wood. What a story!
Thanks guys. Still at it!!
Simply mind blowing! A double is one thing, and truly in itself. But to have them drop together like that? Wow! Congrats to both, and good luck to Cam. With two tagged out he's going to have a blast as designated shooter!
Yeah, I'm betting on Cam to get it done. Hunting with those two sure don't hurt your chances!
Can I change my name to cam??
Good luck.
Congrats and great story!
Great work Hunt and team. That is an opening weekend that will be re-lived for years to come. Congrats! MO
