Plowed a lot of snow last April. Opening morning was 12 degrees, but it can also be nice. It is less of a gamble to go in May.

I hunted Nebraska Montana and Wyoming last 4 years in April. Each time got 8 inches in April. Still killed my birds but they were flocked up pretty good still.

I hunted merriams for about 20 consecutive years. I’ve seen it snowing sideways mid afternoon and 80 degrees mid afternoon. I’d watch the weather forecast a few days ahead. It’s usually pretty chilly at sun up, 30-40 degrees. You can always shed a layer if need be.

Some of the Blackhill birds are somewhat migratory. If there is snow (like this year) the movement of birds from private up to the hills may be delayed? Turkeys tend to be in fairly large winter flocks early in the season and are a lot tougher getting to cooperate.

How she looking out there? Planning on heading west Friday night for my 1st ever trip. Sure am glad for the foot plus of fresh tracking snow we will get. Any tips for a first timer?

Lop their head off or take their legs out. They can fly a long ways with an arrow in them.

Use a Bullhead. Either kills them instantly or they live to see another day.
