Santee Copper has confirmed , it is for sale , and next are the rest of are Wma lands the State owns . dont move here, to many anti's

That’s bad news ! I hunted the Hatchery for ducks in the 70s and Santee as well. Sadly it’s going to that extreme.

What are Nuk deals? Absolutely blows that a state would self off public lands like this.

" Nuk " is Nuke Power plant . The state owes 244,000,000$ to contractors to whom worked at the site , the site of which never got finished .

Amazing how quickly states more to dispose of lands when the budgets get tough. Just more examples of why the push to transfer FS and BLM managed properties to states is a terrible idea.

When that’s all gone, knowing they’ll NEVER balance budgets, THEN what they gonna do to cover their *** in the next whole they dig themselves into?

I can't confirm wether or not SC is selling WMA's or not (internet search turns up nothing) but if you think there are too many anti hunters in SC you don't get out much. I was born and raised in the Carolina's and have spent my entire adult life elsewhere, trust me it gets WAY worse than SC from an anti hunting perspective.

I can think of other reasons not to live in SC. HOT, chiggers, poison oak, 3 month rifle season etc. On a serious note, there aren't many states that are more hunter friendly.

ya you should come to the northeast.....ct ma nj ri ny.....its the liberal anti hot bed of the nation

this is typical for many states state land, its disposable. all the more reason you need to be looking at this from a national perspective. There is ton on money behind this movement and it isn't for the benefit of the average American hunter or citizen

The SC nuke deal should be national news. SCE&G entered into a deal to build a nuke power plant, got legislation to have ratepayers fund the debt, paid their execs huge bonuses for mismanaging the failed project and left the ratepayers with responsibility to pay the $9Billion debt. Nobody went to jail but we will pay by losing our public land.

There are quite a few articles on "nuke gate" but I can't find any mention of SC selling public lands.

These are the reasons we need to support groups like BHA and Sportsmens Alliance

R-man, I think you've got it wrong. The state didn't own that land. They only leased it from the power company. It's the power company that's selling it. If you go on https://www2.dnr.sc.gov/ManagedLands/ManagedLand/WMAs you can find out whether the state owns it or is leasing it.

Bandicooter, that's exactly how I read it. Public access might have been granted but it's always been privately owned. Can't find any mention of SC selling a WMA...anywhere. Almost impossible that no-one on any forum or media outlet would be posting something that big in 2018.

The electric utility that is selling it is Santee Cooper which is state-owned(Governor is on the board).

If that's true there's still a big difference between state owned and public.

Ahh...I stand corrected. So how's that socialism thing working out in a red state? (that's a joke)
