I made the trip to WY to chase speedgoats with my bow last month. It was my second archery trip but I had yet to arrow an antelope. I decided to hunt the same unit in WY as I had before, but this time I brought a buddy. We live in Maine and he had never been out west on a hunting trip before.
I was able to share the frustration of spot and stalk antelope hunting with him! We had plenty of opportunities over the first few days. Many were some great situations, but it just never seemed to pan out.
On the fourth day I was finally able to get my chance and arrow a buck. I texted my buddy who texted back with a picture of his own antelope 5 min later! It couldn't have worked out better as we had almost two days to butcher, clean, and freeze the meat prior to our flight back.
I was pretty excited to finally get my hands on one. To me they are some of coolest and best looking animals around. The meat has been very good as well!
We flew out and rented a vehicle. Luckily it's pretty easy to deal with an antelope for flights vs some of the bigger animals. My cooler ended up being 47 pounds for the flight home so it worked out perfectly.
I am driving out to SD with another buddy for deer in a couple weeks. I certainly don't mind living here, but man does it take a long time to get anywhere!
