Reading the other thread about something a matter with a deer got me thinking about a deer I shot back in 2003. I was just after a deer buck or doe, didn't matter. This nice big doe came in. Shot her at 20yds, watched her fall. This was mid October. As I got up to her I noticed it was buck that had already shed his antlers. Which was really odd for that time of year. When I went to tag it, I reached and grabbed the back leg and a bunch of hair came off in my hand. And then I noticed this "wound" on its butt. Any ideas? It almost looked like the flesh was just being rotted or eaten away by an infection

Predator damage would be my guess... Early shed antlers, slipping hair, infected wound (am sure it was fevered at one time),,, another one I wouldn't eat, but hey, that just me... (probably get flamed for not eating this one too)
