So after a long, long season with nothing to show for it I get a buck up at close range, doesn't take the expected trail and he is basically straight down to my left. I draw and unfortunately hit a branch in the tree I didn't clear with my draw elbow. He moves just as I release due to the noise, extra movement, etc. All I get is a wad of hair.
Taken that shot before harvested some deer and missed one other occasion. Typically I aim slightly off center as to not hit the spine but the vitals.
Anyone else take this shot on a regular basis?

Not any more. I did it once and was fortunate to hit heart & plumbing but I prefer to hit 2 lungs.

Yes....the target is the heart. Just like on quartering away shots the target is the far shoulder. Aim for the heart. Never not recovered one.
