Last hunt of the year! Been a hell of a ride. Enjoy as me Trevor and Nick hunt mule deer in Idaho. We have service in the cabin so updates each night . Little post season entertainment ! Hunt
Drove all day. 400 miles from my house. Got to our glassing spot at 3:30. Saw some deer a few bucks and a moose . Good start . First full day tomorrow ! Hunt
Hunt thinks Nose Jammer can remedy a fart as well as it can stump a bucks nose...
Yes! Go get em boys! Looking forward to this.
Tonight’s dinner . Nebraska mule deer back strap and a salad. Sorry Harlin had to have something green. Hunt
Bring the noise! That's pronounced "Nois-E" btw
Pro tip 347. Open the window in the bathroom!!
Pro tip 348. Chase whiskey and black &mild with Sprite and Cheetos. Kill em boys! Wish I was there
Awesome! Go get em boys! Can't wait...
I bet a few 30 packs get killed................
This ought to be entertaining...
Sounds like another wild ride in store! Let the good times roll:-)
Day 2 . Clear 30 degrees. Daylight at 7:15. Packs are loaded for the day . Will report back this evening. Hammertime
Good luck they'll be some animals hitting the ground soon.
Thanks for taking us along! How many days do you guys have to hunt?
I couldn’t keep up with the hunting or the drinking pace, never mind both at once! Tough as woodpecker lips, these guys and killers too.
Stack’em up boys!
I'll be following this.... Ed F
Good luck boys! If nothing else I'm 100% certain that good times will be had! Looking forward to tonight's update!
Lets go boys! some animals are in trouble.
Good luck boys! Can't wait for the update. Hunt get rid of the vegetables, they are bad luck! A guy can live on meat, beer and whiskey!
My kind of crew! Best of luck fellas!
Good stuff guys! Keep it going!
ElkNut/Paul
Here we go! Looking forward to this.
"Watching"!! Thanks for sharing
Great morning behind the glass. Lots of does and fawns. A few bucks but nothing to go after. Snow is very loud . Hope it softens up this afternoon. Most of the deer are up high on the top 1/3 of the mountain .
15xs on a tripod have completely changed how both of us hunt and glass.
Pro tip, don’t leave the truck without wet wipes or you may end up losing a glove.
Best of luck guys...............
There is one living here somewhere!! We are only here for a few days. Until Sunday . Great way to end the season with some great friends and get to hear all the stories from this past years hunts in person! Hunt
You can recover that glove after the snow melts. :)
Good luck fellas!! I'd be scared if I was a mulie anywhere out there! Good call on the jammer, as I always find whiskey to provide a certain tang the next day...when all else fails there is the dog scooch
Just turn the glove inside out first. Unless you’re a nail biter.
Or put it in a Ziploc and trade it out tonight after the drinking starts.
Glove? Were you guys out of shirt sleeves?
"Pro tip, don’t leave the truck without wet wipes or you may end up losing a glove."
Hunt, I think that's a rookie tip. A true pro tip is that your buddy may lose a glove! :)
Wouldn’t the snow pack?! Keep your gloves on, and that way your fingers don’t get cold when using the snowballs.
Snowballs..........Takes off all of the new and part of the old!
Now that may have to go down as a true manly man pro tip, t-Roy!
So we found the crossing area, deer must just be running late...
So we found the crossing area, deer must just be running late...
Snow came in this afternoon . After 3 hours of waiting it out we called it. Guess it’s time for a high ball. Man can’t fly on one wing!! Hunt
Really looking forward to the rest of this. Cheers guys!
Pro tip 327. Glassing tracks in the snow leads to the source of the tracks. Even if it is a moose !
Pro tip 391. Put a paper plate on top Of the caribou stew in the microwave !!
Can’t wait for tomorrow boys good luck!!!!!
Today is the day . Snow has stoppped. About 3 inches. 27 degrees and cloudy. At least it will not be crunchy. Trevor is itchy for his first mule deer. We plan to make this happen today. Nick will be here this afternoon and team Hammertime is them complete. We got some intel from some guys leaving last night.
Good luck down there Hunt! Thanks for taking us along. Is this a draw area? Archery only?
Sounds like you have a plan! Good luck, Trevor!
Good luck today fellas! Blood on the snow!
Get after em boys! I have a feeling a muley is in deep trouble today!
Good luck, sounds like a good time.
"Pro tip, don’t leave the truck without wet wipes or you may end up losing a glove."
Just drag your ass on the snow like a dog with worms. Squeaky clean!
GL guys.
Epic day on the mountain . Story coming soon.
Holy shat!!!! This should be good.
Holy Stickers Batman!!! I mean Huntman.
OMG! WOW! Now that there is a smoker! Hopefully you boys ran in there and surrounded that one to make sure he got at least a couple arrows in the air! Damn, please tell me you’re packin’ him out:-)
The day started off snowy. 4-6 new snow but it wasn’t crunchy anymore and that was exciting!
We head into the glassing spot. But with the snow it was a scary climb to the normal spot.
Started the morning glassing session with a small cave fire and figuring out a game plan to deal with all the new snow.
Refresh, refresh, refresh!
Gotta be good...
We find a dry spot and set up shop . Soon we find some deer a ways out! We can tell one is a good buck. 8:30 we pack up shop .
We planned 3 hours to make it up to the deer. As we gain elevation we gain snow 8-10 now.
Did you dive into the highballs? Cmon Hunt some of us have no life on a Friday night and are waiting for updates. ;)
Lol this is awesome I was just there in oct. I want to be back keep the story coming.
Seriously, no whiskey photo Yet!?
Let's go boys... no dickin' around, out with it. Ed F
You guys are gonna love it!
I am waiting for the good stuff. You know, I checked and rechecked the mailbox but saw no invitation yet. Just saying. my best, Paul
I think there to busy celebrating. Please put the drink down and show us the results.
After 3 hours of hiking we are closing in. Time for water and a sandwich ! Life is good
Check these gals out, so glad to be back to Idaho with my buds for a few days!
Are the Bowsite servers down? This thread isn’t refreshing fast.
Got an idea the boys are holed up having a few drinks and have forgotten about us poor slobs...
Except for Nick!
After that tickler, I hope the guys are celebrating when you get there!
Good luck!
I have found that whiskey will slow down WiFi. Just personal observation...
:-O
Good luck fellas. Looking forward to hearing the rest.
Jaquomo hit the nail on the head!
Well...well...is that buck dead or what? Kevin
Good luck! Can't wait to hear about how it goes!
Must have been a rough night! Might not hear anything from those guys till the crack of noon or later!
The interweb is much slower in Idaho. Everyone knows that
They're still not talking after someone used the empty apple juice for a piss jug and put it back in the fridge in a drunken stupor.
Ok back to the story . We keep climbing towards the deer. Snow Is getting deeper.
dang, smoke signals to internet takes some doing...
Just cracked a beer. Bring it, Hunt!
I have posted 5 times and it want go. I am trying guys.
At least I have pop tarts;-)
We head up to the deer . We drop our packs and make a plan. Trevor is going to the right. So I will head left.
The deer are in the trees at the top the draw!
The deer bump up the hill little ways. Fun to watch them. The big buck runs off and small buck that gets close. The snow is to the bellies of the fawns in the group .
The was no play to happen here now. 20 inches of snow and 26 deer. But what if I could get above them. So I head that way. The deer watch me head around the ridge. Back side is brutal with wind and snow. Little did i know the big buck and a doe fawn had pulled off !!
I get above the deer and can see them below me. But no buck. I back out and head up higher for another angle. Wind must have got me . I see the buck get up and head out of my life . It was a sight to see and made the trip .
We head down the mountain . The conditions in this part of the unit are brutal. We plan to head south. Nick shows up and we have a large time . Some more than others!
The next morning it is snowing hard. We try and glass but we can’t see 200 yards . We glassed the deer the day before at 2 miles. We hit the truck to see some new country!
Gotta maintain positivity in shitty conditions, even if it means faking it...
Looks COLD!
Also looks like you don’t want to be the first one to pass out in that group!
It was -11 here this morning with wind. Late season is tough hunting! I was soaked in sweat by 10:00 though :-) Just got back to the house with a pile of meat!
Been following. Man what a sight to see that buck. You guys hunt some nasty conditions. Good luck and and thanks for taking us along your adventure!
Hard to get close in this stuff! Hunt
Watch your six when you got a killer loose behind ya...
On a real note, that was a humbling hunt. Great time with great friends, but man those deep snow conditions are tough to get close in.
Bowhunting in snow stinks!
Seems like it takes twice as much effort and makes ten times the noise! Also, snow and ice in your optics, arrow release, cams, string, nocks, etc. makes finding animals and getting a shot really tough! Especially for spot and stalk hunting!
You guys might try splitting up and looping around the deer out of sight and setting up on escape routes then have one guy try sneaking in on them. It can be a shit ton of work to get around the deer out of sight to set up but can be very effective.
Are snow shoes a viable option?
You guys already throw in the towel? Jeez. Was looking forward to some grip & grin big buck pics!
They headed home and I headed back to school. I have tomorrow off and am planning on hunting one last day.
Thanks for taking us along, boys! G'luck Nick
Thanks for the adventure!
Good luck Nick!
Mark
No way this can be the end of it.............
Talk about "Blue B@lls"! lol
I doubt I’ll see that buck but maybe see some others.
I only had 3.5 days to hunt due to my work schedule in Alaska. To say I overextended with leave this year would be a massive understatement. This hunt was certainly more about hanging out w good friends again than it was a kill mission. Had fun and learned a lot yet.
The mule deer curse continues.
Maybe you should try your Halloween camo trick, Trevor?
That seems to work on their northern cousins:-)
If you want a decent mule deer there are a lot of options that also do not require freezing your tail off in deep snow...
Might even be able to hunt in really nice weather and hunt 2 species if you play your cards right;-)
Tough conditions for sure.
Dang, and here i thought someone was just taking a nap in a wheelbarrow. Better luck next time gents!
