Looking to upgrade my binoculars for elk hunting next year. Has anyone tried different models of higher end optics?? Also is anyone tried the Leaupold 15 x 56 LX 5 Santium or the 10 x 50’s?? Looking for input that is more comparison related vs someone who is going to give input about only brand they have. Thanks for your help
I've tried many but neither of the two you mention. Are these for use on a tripod or strictly freehand? Do you hunt open country or heavy timber? Budget?
I've tried the Leupolds. The particular pair I had had collimation issues, I sent them back for a refund. Its hard to make good glass in a 15x, the Meopta wasn't bad, better than the Conquest... but Swaro is by far the best that I've looked thru.
look at maven out of lander wy. nice guys with a lot of choices. u.s.a. made
Yeah, I've looked at my share of good glass, in fact I'm still recovering from playing around with my Buddies Swaro BTX's on a 95mm.
You can search the different forums to see a bunch of reviews and comments. Here on Bowsite, Rokslide and the Birding forums are especially good.
This is a start...but you really need to see for yourself outside in low light on a tripod when it comes to cost v effect.
As far as I know, stores like Cabelas will let you do that...best to do it at dusk. you can't tell jack squat in the store...they all look good.
So here is an example; I have a bunch of high end glass including the older Zeiss 15x60s. Those are heavy. I got a really good deal on Vortex vipers 15x50's and thought...good ratings...and it would be nice to have a lighter pair for stuff.
Ugh, no...compared to my other top glass...these were similar to the difference between a good Napa Cabernet....and Trader Joes 2 buck Chuck.
