6:30 am. I don't know about you guys but I am just as excited about this first goose hunt of the year with the bow, as I was last year and even 65 years ago when I first started hunting. I was born a hunter and I guess I will die as a hunter.

26 degrees this morning with very light winds. Sun up at 7:17. Time to get moving.

Chase is ready and I have lots of treats for him.

SO LETS GO GOOSE HUNTING WITH BOW AND ARROW IN HAND.

I will update this when I return before noon. my best, Paul

Can't wait to see Chase in action. One of the best looking black labs I have seen. He poses for the camera so good. Let him know he has a fan in Illinois. Paul, I would guess you at about 20 years younger than you are.....I really hope to be hunting and have the passion you do when I get that age. Have fun and good luck.

OK guys, a GREAT morning in the goose field. The geese starting flying off the big lake around 7:45 am but a lot of them were the lesser geese and I have never had any of them decoy. Needed the big geese to come by. And they did at 8:10 am and landed 25 yards to my right, about 30 of them. I had to shift in the blind while trying to keep Chase from whining and pack up the bow for a shot.

The closest one was bedded down at 22 yards. A well placed arrow killed it without the other geese knowing what had just happened. Two geese came closer and presented a shot at 18 yards. I picked out the big one pictured above. The shot was true and the goose tried to get away with a broken wind. Chase was in hot pursuit.

I pick out the closed goose and range find it at 34 yards. I adjust the single pin sight. Arrow on its way.

9:10 . more geese high over head but then all of a sudden, a small flock comes flying in and lands 34 yards away.

Great pictures!! Have you ever hit a bone that prevented the arrow from passing through? ….was just wondering if Chase ever got cut by an exposed broadhead? Awesome photos of him running down those geese!!

From: Paul@thefort
16-Dec-18
Jake, if the arrow stays in the goose, I leave Chase in the blind, take out the arrow and reset the goose for a blind retrieve. A pass through, no issue. I use mechanical BHs and the blades do not seem to be exposed as a fix BH when on the ground. Paul

Hey Paul nice job with the goose hunting and what a dog Chase is. If you would like to try something a little different with the geese that you take, try putting the breast through a meat grinder along with some nice bacon. Makes a mean goose burger for summer meals over the grill.
